Went our and listened this morning it was a little windy and didn't hear or see anything. I did see some tracks around the house. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens

superstrutter 03-17-2013 11:01 AM

Went out Sat. morning and heard just the one gobbler. He is still not on my property, but he was much closer this time. I did see his tracks on my property, so looks like I may get a chance to work him unless somebody gets him first. I'm hoping he has a buddy or two hanging with him.

swampbuster 03-18-2013 07:54 AM

Went out yesterday afternoon by my house and walked around found Lots of scratching. I know they are in the area. Still have not heard any gobbling

BB Outdoors 03-18-2013 12:31 PM

still snowing here in sw wisconsin so i haven't bothered going out yet to scout. hopefully it warms up a bit by April 10th to get the birds going.

Talondale 03-19-2013 05:57 AM

Still seeing Toms in their bachelor groups. Saw 6 on my way in to work this morning. Seeing them in fields every day for the past 6 days.

RyanVT 03-19-2013 02:13 PM

Welcome to the team all the new teammates. Hard for me to get excited for turkey season with all this damn snow falling here I vermont.

swampbuster 03-20-2013 10:40 AM

Went by another spot that I have permission to hunt. The ground is tore up with scratching everywhere and a lot of tracks as well. I need to get by there and listen Saturday morning

superstrutter 03-20-2013 11:07 AM

Hopefully you will hear some gobbles. My season opens this weekend, but it's not looking real promising right now. Texas and Oklahoma are both looking good though.

superstrutter 03-20-2013 07:30 PM

Went to my property this afternoon and saw gobbler tracks on my road. I did something I normally never do. I decided to give a couple yelps on my mouth call just to see if he was on my property. He immediately gobbled, so I put my call up and got my video camera out. I filmed him for a few minutes before he lost interest. He's a good bird with a beard that's about 10". I just hope he hangs around for a few more days. Of course the opening day forecast calls for heavy rain and thunderstorms. Figures

I live in West Monroe. My property where I deer and turkey hunt is in Union Parish, about 7 miles south of Junction City, Ark.

superstrutter 03-21-2013 07:13 PM

Welcome to the team White Farm.

BetterBirddogs 03-22-2013 05:09 AM

So strutter once you kill that lone bird on your place what are you gonna do then.

White_Farm 03-22-2013 05:42 AM

My target

Here's my target for the season to add to the team score! The seeds on the table are supposed to be for "the birds", but this BIRD wasn't shy and showed up one day. Hopefully he'll be around in 6 weeks when the season opens. Based on the spurs in the higher resolution pic I have on my PC I'm guessing a 3 year old, should be a good scorer. Maybe I should start dumping corn laced with some bacon grease to fatten him up over the next month, LOL! Pic attached.

superstrutter 03-22-2013 09:34 AM

Wow, that's a cool pic. Hope he does stay around for you. I agree on him being a 3 yr. old. His spurs aren't bad at all. Good luck getting him.

Well, here's my plan. I'll hopefully get this bird this weekend. I'm going to Texas next week and hopefully get 2 or 3 Rios. I'll be going to Oklahoma on April 6 to hopefully get another Rio. During this time, hopefully another longbeard makes his way to my property and I'll hopefully get him. End of season. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it, hopefully.

That's alot of turkey hunting right there. My jealousy meter is going off. You must be single, retired or both!

Oh I am jealous too - 3 if not 4 yrs old based on the hooks, the sharpness of them and how they are turning up!

Whack him........

good luck

superstrutter 03-22-2013 10:20 AM

White Farm, I'm not single or retired. Vacation and just taking a sick day or two, or three if need be.

Talondale 03-22-2013 10:29 AM

Go get 'em SS!

Nice, I have a dream when I get older to take a month off and Spring turkey hunt my way up the east coast as the seasons open, ending at home in NY for May 1st opening.

BB Outdoors 03-22-2013 11:45 AM

Well my season opens in 19 days and yet there is still snow on the ground. Hopefully it melts and gets warmer so the birds get fired up. If not I'll have to buy some left over tags for the seasons in May

swampbuster 03-22-2013 11:50 AM

Cool pic white farm. I love how they will end in the strangest places on camera and then u can't find one in the woods when you are hunting them. Thanks for sharing that pic

swampbuster 03-22-2013 05:17 PM

I drove down to the back of my property after work this afternoon and six or seven hens flew across the creek. I don't think that there was a Tom with them. Should there be a Tom with them this time of year?

Yep, I hear ya, and happy to share pics, hopefully more to come in the next month. I really hope he's around come May, but you never know! If he's here, my owl hooter and I will find him! But a few years ago when the population was low, we had just 1 long beard around all winter. One day before the season we found him, spread in a 30ft circle, nothing but feathers and beard left :-(. Most likely a fox or coyote. We (mostly my father since I'm a visitor to the hunting grounds and not retired) put a hurting on the predators this Winter, so hopefully more survive(d). Night vision, motion detectors, cameras etc. helped get rid of foxes, coyotes and raccoons all Winter long. Can't get 'em all though.

I don't know the AR season timing at all, but in general being around hens during the season can't be bad. They don't impregnate themselves!! Somewhat like deer in the fall, hang around does long enough, and a buck is bound to wander in.

First part of my plan done. I got this Louisiana longbeard at 8:45 this morning. He weighs 17.4 lbs., has a 10" beard, and matching 1 inch spurs. My story will be on the bragging board. He scores 57.25

Great work! Nice bird with a perfect tail. His head looks about the same size as yours! Must be swollen from all the pellets.

BB Outdoors 03-24-2013 09:34 AM

Way to get us on the board! Congrats on the bird!

swampbuster 03-24-2013 12:22 PM

Way to go ss. Congrats on your first turkey of the year

RyanVT 03-24-2013 02:57 PM

Way to go man nice bird!

RJPOUTDOORS 03-24-2013 11:21 PM

Congrats to Superstrutter. My son and I went out this morning and watched 4 toms in one field and then found two more toms on another property. Hopefully this will be a good season for us.
