Any birds will help our total score. If one other hunter who hasn't scored yet would kill one, that would give us a great chance to win. Once we get all of Swamps scores in, we should be well ahead in the total points scored. Jalex, your bird scores 63. Swamp, your Kansas Rios score 59.25 and 53. The higher score will replace your previous high score. Congrats to both of you. Talondale, don't give up. It's bound to happen sooner or later.

superstrutter 05-06-2013 09:58 AM

Jalex and Swamp, I have submitted your scores. JW has us two birds short on the total number killed. We should be in first place in that category. I let him know, but the old geezer hasn't changed it yet. Just kidding JW. Swamp, how many more birds do you have to score? Didn't you kill some in Nebraska?

swampbuster 05-06-2013 12:36 PM

Ss I got three birds in Nebraska when I get home I will measure and send pics

This is the first Merriam that I ever shot. I saw a group going in creek bed so I got in front of them and several hens and jakes came through first. It was one of those hunts that it was hard to shoot because of all the turkeys around the one adult gobbler. He was strutting around and when he finally cleared I called and he stuck his head up and I rolled him up at twenty yards. Thank you Lord for my first Merriam!!! He weighed 20.1lbs had a 8 1/4 beard and 5/8 spurs

This is the second Merriam that I shot. I saw a big group of turkeys roosting in these two giant cottonwoods the night before. Later that afternoon I was setting up on these turkeys and they went the wrong way and I was trying to slip away to get out of there when I saw them working there way back to me. I just laid down and put my hen decoy on the ground a few yards away from me. The first turkey was a jake and when he saw that decoy he ran right to it and then three other jakes followed and then one of two gobblers in a flock of twenty or so walked out I rolled him up at twenty or so yards. Thank you Lord for my second Merriam!!! He weighed 18.10lbs and had a 8in beard and 5/8 in spurs

This spring I was blessed and was able to harvest six turkeys. I would like to give all the glory, honor, and credit to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. Here is the picture of my third Merriam. I saw a large group of turkeys on both sides of the road I was driving down. Several of strutters were in this bunch of turkeys. When I turned around they were all on the side of the road that I had permission to hunt. They were headed up on top of this ridge. I parked and got in front of them and waited for about a half hour or so. The hole time I could hear hens yelping and an occasional gobble. After a while it sounded like they were going away from me. I made a move and got as close as possible. I started a conversation with a hen and was able to get two of the strutters to break away. The first one surprised me and was able to get by me the second one was not so lucky. I shot him at thirty yards. Thank you Lord for my third Merriam and my fifth turkey in four days!! This turkey weighed 21.10lbs had a 8 3/4 in beard and 1in spurs

superstrutter 05-06-2013 06:54 PM

Congrats on your Merriams. Bird 1 scores 49.0625, bird 2 scores 47.125, and bird 3 scores 59.125. This gives us 20 total birds killed for a total of 1,074.

swampbuster 05-07-2013 08:53 AM

My season ended Sunday who else is still hunting? Good luck to every one who is still hunting

swampbuster 05-09-2013 08:41 AM

Where is every one at? Good luck if your hunting!!

superstrutter 05-09-2013 09:52 AM

Haven't heard from several of you in a while. Have never heard from Gazz0211. RJP and BBD, what's going on with ya'll? Somebody's bound to be still hunting. We're not out of this thing yet.

swampbuster 05-09-2013 10:51 AM

Ss were do we stand in the rankings?

superstrutter 05-09-2013 12:15 PM

Not really sure. We should be right at the top in total points. Probably in the top 3 in best bird per hunter. If someone kills a bird that hasn't already taken one, we will be in good shape.

swampbuster 05-09-2013 12:28 PM

Do you know what category we have to win to keep our team intact for next year?

RPD63 05-09-2013 01:51 PM

Great birds guys. I have been done hunting since late March.

RPD63 05-09-2013 01:52 PM

We have to be close to the top n the rankings.

RVT how much time do you have left in your season? Is anyone else left hunting? If so good luck

RJPOUTDOORS 05-11-2013 07:25 PM

Well bad news season ended and I was unable to close the deal. Either the birds would not respond to the call or it rained and high winds. Sorry I realy thought I was going to score one. Good luck to anyone still out there.

RyanVT 05-12-2013 04:41 PM

i have til the 31st. long season but the birds are tuff to get this late in the year. Im trying tho

Talondale 05-13-2013 07:32 AM

Just got back from a week at the beach. I didn't miss much hunting wise because they were drowning in rain here all week. I've got evenings to hunt and a week left in the season but not sure if I'll be able to sneak an evening hunt in this week. Cold front came through last night and it's supposed to snap by Wed with climbing temps. I have an all day hunt planned with the kids Saturday and that may be it for me. Hoping for a lonesome tom.

Talondale 05-13-2013 07:48 AM

Just thought I'd update anyone that doesn't know; Matt "Bald9Eagle" on team 1 lost his 17 year old daughter in a car accident April 30 and her sister is still in a coma. Please keep 14 year old Alison and her family in your prayers.

Man that really puts things in perspective doesn't it. I will definitely put that family in my prayers.

swampbuster 05-16-2013 07:27 AM

Is anybody still hunting?

superstrutter 05-16-2013 05:30 PM

It's beginning to look like we are finished. I think Talondale said he was going to hunt this weekend. Other than that, looks like it's over.If he can get a last minute kill, we may have a chance. I still think we're in good shape for overall kills, but that won't win the contest. We gave them a run anyway. Looks like this season was a good one for many hunters here. Lots of birds killed.

swampbuster 05-17-2013 11:49 AM

I agree SS had a great season and a great time getting to trade story's with everyone

BB Outdoors 05-19-2013 08:43 AM

Im done hunting for the year. I had a tag for last weekend but i decided to take my brother hunting instead seeings how i already scored on a bird. I did get my brother his first turkey which was a jake but man was he still happy as all hell. I wasn't sure who was more excited me or him when he shot it. Good luck to yall who are still hunting. Hopefully we can take the win this year!

Talondale 05-20-2013 06:37 AM

Well, I'm sorry to report I struck out. Took my kids with me and we had a good setup but didn't hear peep. We did some fishing after lunch with the plan to change locations for the evening hunt but we got rained out. If I was by myself I'd use the rain to sneak from field to field, as the turkey tend to go out in the fields during rain, but couldn't do that with three kids in tow. We had a great time and caught a lot of fish right up until the rain started. Sorry I couldn't contribute this year but I had some close calls and a tough year at the farm which usually produces. We didn't hear one bird on our property after seeing large flocks this fall. Makes me wonder if the poachers we found last fall are having an impact or its coyotes, or the tree thinning activity early this year.

superstrutter 05-27-2013 09:19 PM

I'm assuming the season is over for everyone here. We made a good run. Twenty birds ain't too bad. Looks like we are going to be a little short in winning the contest. We still may have the most birds though. We'll just have to wait and see.

RyanVT 05-28-2013 01:28 PM

Im still hunting guys! Not looking good but I've got Til the 31st

superstrutter 05-28-2013 07:57 PM

Sorry Ryan. I figured everyone was finished. I guess we still have a dog in this fight. Good luck.

superstrutter 05-30-2013 06:56 PM

I went back and recalculated our scores and I was a little low on the best bird per hunter category. We have killed 20 total birds for a score of 1074.0. I was right on that. Our best bird per hunter score is actually 427.6875 ( 7 hunters ).

Topgun 3006 05-30-2013 07:41 PM

Our MI season ends tomorrow, but I got my bird way back on the 13th and it was a good thing as the bugs have been worse up here than I've ever seen in my life! I think I will get on a team next year as it looks like fun!

superstrutter 05-30-2013 08:24 PM

Yeah, you need to.

RyanVT 05-31-2013 05:51 PM

Well no luck guys. Went from one of my best seasons last year getting 2 nice toms and tagging out to getting nothing this year. real disappointed sorry guys.

superstrutter 06-11-2013 03:56 PM

Well we didn't win the contest, but it looks like we killed the most birds and have the highest total score. Good job guys.

JW 06-12-2013 05:56 PM

Nice job gang! - Man what an effort and 20 birds taken on part of this team.......
