RE: team 19 check in
Team 19, sorry for being out but I had a good excuse, I WAS HUNTING!
Was in Georgia last week and it went rather well! I was blessed enought to take three Gobblers. I'm going to post some pics but I need another primer on how to do that the 'easiest' way. Any quicks suggestions? Anyways, I'm pumped cause I'm heading for Texas on Thursday this week. Here are the scores for my three birds; 21 lbs. 10 5/8 beard 1 in. + 1 1/8 in. = 63.5 23 lbs. 10 7/8 beard 1 1/4 in. + 1 1/4 in. = 69.75 19 lbs. 9 1/4 beard 7/8 in. + 7/8 in. = 55 That middle one is a whopper! ![]() |

RE: team 19 check in
Nice birds, We here in MI can only harvest one per season.
You all seem to be very knowledgable turkey hunters.......here is my question.....please reply I have located the turkeys roostin a pine grove about 60 yrd X 150 yrd. There are tons of droppings and feathers about in the center of the grove. fields on both sides, one side I can hunt. Part of the pine grove has woods butted up to it with a two track dividing the hard woods from the pines. setups in my best opinion would be in the field edge next to there roost???? Is it wise to set up in the pines say 30-40 yrds from there roosting trees??? or maybe on the two track dividing the two woods??? I can tell you how I would deer hunt this but have no idea for turkey, and knowing where there roost is kind of throughs me off. I would want to sit in the pines for an evening hunt I am guessing. Little help so I can post you a bird! |
RE: team 19 check in
wow look at the hooks on the far right!
|
RE: team 19 check in
OOO one more, what decoys do you use? I just got a PretyBoy, and have 4 others. two toms and two hens.
|
RE: team 19 check in
well slip into the woods SILENTLY well before daylight, im not sure if i would use a deke but if i did id just use one hen and one jake about 10 yard to the front and left of me(or right if your left handed) if your allowed to evening hunt(we're not in CA) set up 5-60 yards away to try to minimise distrubance. if your season hasnt started yet try to get some scouting done to see where the turkeys go, into the two-track or the feildd? and if you set up where they want to be only use very light calling to not distrub their pattern, do you agree everybody?

RE: team 19 check in
Wow...those are some hefty looking birds! good luck!
|
RE: team 19 check in
The rain doesn't seem like it is ever going to end here. The birds are starting to gobble a bit. Youth season starts Saturday. I am just waiting for the 21st. Good luck to all.
|
RE: team 19 check in
thank you DTC, im out again tomorrow, this time with less people so i will be focusing on my bird
|
RE: team 19 check in
Sat out Sat. to scout. Arived at the property at 6am, back to there roost 6:15, started to hear a few gobbles about 6:20, they did not get warmed up and start flying down untill 6:45-7:00, I used a owl call 4 times to locate them, when the flew down they went away from the hard woods-two track, They seemed to stay in the pines.... I moved away from the pines to the next fense row and had a flock of 8 with one tom come in from a different direction then the pines, but went that way after milling around in the field.
I think my plan of attack will be to set up in the center of the field next to the pine grove. I have a tent blind I will put up a day or so before season so we can slip in. I think I will use two sets of decoys, one on each side of the blind. Maybe the Pretty boy and hen on one side and a couple hens and jake on the other. There sounded like maybe 7 or so gobblers on roost in the pines, should be a productive hunt!! |
RE: team 19 check in
thats cool we are in first so far. Great job guys. I was wondering about how they were going to work more than one bird..... only the biggest gets counted. Keep it up..
Who yet is not hunting? |
RE: team 19 check in
Yes, they only count the biggest bird. Hoot has killed 3 really nice toms but only the biggest one counts and I have killed an osceola and a rio and only my osceola counts. Our youth seson opens Saturday and regular season opens the 21st. Listend this morning and heard about 25 birds on one of my spots. Went to my other spot(whre I have been getting pics of those 2 big toms) and never heard a bird.

RE: team 19 check in

|
RE: team 19 check in
Nice job!
Good looking birds |
RE: team 19 check in
Measurement of the largest bird - 20.3 lbs., 1 1/2 spurs, 9 7/8" beard
I will be hunting South Dakota on Saturday, so if I kill a larger bird then I can replace that score - correct? |
