RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
nice birds, my family is in Cape county, my aunt owns property(60acres) just out of Marble Hill, you have me, my sister and her family, and my parents all looking at moveing to south MO in the next few years, infact my sister will be there in a month when her husband is discharged from the Air Force, whats the public land opportunities like over there? for everything not just turkey
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
I love that "In your face" pic :)
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
DTC those are two nice gobblers there, those buggers are wearing some nice paint brushes!! :D
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
There is some good public land hunting if you can get away from the people. The government land gets hammered during turkey season. MO is the #1 state in non-resident turkey hunters. I know of some good public land that is bow hunting only and you can see alot of deer on it late in the season.
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
sweet, how many birds are you allowed a year?
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
We can kill 6 birds a year. 2 in the spring season, 2 in archery season, and 2 in the fall shotgun season.
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
sweet, sounds like i need to get into archery, here in CA we are allowed4 birds, 3 in the spring one in the fall, witheither shotgun or bow
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
IN NY it's 2 in the spring, no hens
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
im only alouwed hens in the fall
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
Alright Team 19 it is about time to get the ball rolling. After 11 inches of rain in MO we are finally getting some sunshine and warm weather. The birds are starting to gobble SOME. We don't start until April 21st here but I am leaving Sunday for FL. Hope to complete my slam with a nice osceola and then it's off to TX to hunt rios with my bow. That should tide me over until the youth season in MO. Good luck Team 19!!!!
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
yeah i have 8 more days here in CA cant wait........
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
I'll have to live thru you guys! Our season is so far away it's ridiculous
RE: team 19 "Gobbling Thunder"
I got up and listened this morning. It was pretty windy but heard 25-30 birds this morning. They are still wadded up and not gobbling alot yet. I leave in the morning for FL on a 3 day hunt. Hopefully I canpost a score for Team #19 when I get home. Good luck team!

RE: team 19 check in
Landed the property I was looking to hunt. There are birds there so all should be good. I will most likely let my son take his first.
RE: team 19 check in
thats fine AR im going out saturday but my first priority is it will be my friends first turkey hunt so i want him to get one, im pretty much the guide/caller for him, then i start working for myself and my brother-in-law, but i have a peice of property where it will be me picking out the bird i want, there are a couple multi-beard HUGE birds there so i will be holding out for one of them, unless a monster gobbler walks in front of me like it did last year
RE: team 19 check in
Thanks and I apologize again for being a slacker, lol. Well about myself...I have a Bachelor's degree in outdoor education/camp admin, then went back to school this past fall for a 2 year nursing program, which is why I wasn't on here...it's crazy crazy busy. I've been hunting for almost 10 years, will be this fall. I hunt deer with shotgun and bow, turkeys with shotgun, and smallgame. I have about 10 turkeys to my name, and I'd say I'm even more passionate about hunting them than I am deer...I think part of it is turkeys can play mind games with you, lol. I had about 3-4 years where the turkey population kind of decreased and I was not putting a tag on a bird for those years, then last spring, the ice broke and I put a tag on a nice spring jake and then put my fall tag on a tasty youngster from the spring brood.
My biggest bird....a 20 lb gobbler with 8.5" beard and 1 1/4 inch and 3/4 inch spurs. I've tagged more jakesthan anything, but it's alright, love to eat turkey!Missed a big bird last spring, but hoping he's still around this year. I know a few spots on state land alsowhere there are turkeys thatI need to scout out more. Season starts May 1, but because of school, I miss the first 2 days[:o];)I can't wait though, being in the woods in the spring mornings is like church for me:D Good luck everyone, and I'll be more active in here! Keep after those birds and enjoy the whole hunt. I've got to go study;)but I'll see if I can post some bird photos in the main forum later. |
RE: team 19 check in
i hope DTC sows up with a nice bird! his hunt is up and he should be going back to the lake that used to be MO
