Well unfortunately I have no good news to report. Denny showed up yesterday morning with rain thretening here in PA. We arrived at the farm to hunt and headed out through the field to find the farmer or his kids had their family 4-wheeler at their little trailer camper in the corner of the field with a smoldering fire outside. What a freaking time to decide to camp out![:@] Denny and I positioned our selves near a known roosting site but waited long after daybreak to call due to a heavy fog and some light drizzle. But nothing. And that was basically how the whole day went. NOT EVEN A SINGLE GOBBLE ALL DAY!!! Toatally frustrating. Denny and I talked about it and believe there were multiple factors in us not getting on a bird let alone hearing one. First was the weather (That rain and Fog did not help), second we believe we are in a gobbling lull here in PA, third we believe the farmer messed things up with camping up there friday night and my guess was riding the quad around disturbing the birds, and fourth being we found more signs of predators yesterday. Remember the first week I reported I saw a red fox racing through the property? Well we also found fresh Bear Tracks yesterday and coyote scat. But all in all it still was better than a day working, and I invited Denny back int he fall to archery hunt for deer or come back to chase these damng rats with wings again. LOL I o have to say Denny is a great caller and I learned a lot from him in the few hours we hunted together. I did come to realize that my turkey hunting techniques and calling techniques are pretty decent. I am no way a world class caller but listening to Denny I saw that I do the same things he does. He just does them better. LOL But I did learn I need to call a bit softer at flydown time. But like I said it was still a good day, even though we didn't get on any birds or any footage for the River Vally Game Calls Team. Overall still a good day with a new friend.

PA... it is interesting.. you can be the best caller in the woods, but that doesn't mean the birds will want to come and play. I, like most of you, have been sitting in the woods and heard a hen call and said "that is a terrible caller" and come to find out is was a real hen. Having said that, it is always nice to learn from a great caller.
We went out Sat. in MA. I didn't bring my gun, but went out with a couple of buddies to help them tag their first for '08. Had 1 very nice longbeard come right in off of the roost. I am still shocked at the outcome...
We were all sitting in a cluster of trees together... just a couple of feet apart. I was behind the 2 of them, but right in between. The tom came up spitting & drumming to 20 yards. I could have shot him 10 times. He turned and walked to my right towards one of my friends. Then he turned and just walked straight away behind a tree. They both said they never saw him!
Crazy day!!! Huge bird too... Oh well.
We had a few others going, but nothing wanted to come and play.

I've got 2 more weeks yet, which means most likely I have only the next 2 saturdays to go hunt and thats it for me. Unless I manage to take off work but I don't see that as being possible since its a busy time of year for me. Oh well it onloy takes one day to get a bird.

Well I'm back from Missouri with good news to report. Didn't fill both my tags down there but got one. It was my biggest of the year so it should help our score. I'm all done now. Filled both Iowa tags and one Missouri tag before their season closed. I'm going out with my dad this weekend around home to see if I cant help him get one. Iowa's season closes on Sunday. Anyway here he is.Not too bad of a bird,23lbs, 9" beard and 1" spurs: total score of 61.

I also wanted to say congrats to everybody who has bagged a bird. I am normally on this forum everyday during turkey season but my internet has been shut off. I am in the process of moving and wont get hooked back up till June or July. Sorry I haven't been on much and got to know some of you better. Anyways, looks like we are kicking butt! The team I've been on has finishes 2nd a few times but maybe we can win!! Congrats again to everybody and good luck to those still hunting.
