Default Camp Cuervo, Iraq

If anyone is interested in donating any unused archery equipment, bows, rests, sights, releases, arrows (especially arrows) ect. I have been in touch w/ a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Iraq. They have started an archery range and need equipment. These soldiers are on duty 12 hrs and off 12 hrs w/ little or nothing to do on their off duty time. It's a great form of stress relief for them. If anyone is interested I will give the information.
We have 180 people (about 3/4 of them bowhunt) at the company that I work for and we have started a drive within the company to get as much equipment to send over there as possible by the first week in January. The company is paying for the shipping. Great cause !!

Konk, thanks for bringing this up here and the work you are all doing where you work. I am at the present time the go to person for the Michigan Longbow Association www.michiganlongbow.org who has adapted Camp Cuervo and are presently sponsoring them. It is wonderful that you all have taken an interest in these solidiers and are sending them equipment also. I have been in communication with several of the soldiers stationed in Iraq daily and it has been an eye opener for me. Before I met SGG. Rene Alejandro and Lt Pat Inman through communications from their request this war was something that was seperate from my own life that was just another channel on cable tv. Through personal emails with the guys I have become very attached and through email Iraq has become very much a part of my own life.
Last night Christmas Eve I recieved an email that something was comming down over there and that the Christmas archery tournement that was scheduled to happen is now canceled and my communications with several of the guys I have been enjoying will not be able to continue for a few days at least. I am worried about these fellows and ask that those here would take a moment to keep these soldiers who are fightning in Iraq in prayer.
There have been many people everywhere that have been involved in this program such as Reinhart target who helped us send targets over and many people who have sent us items such as bows, arrows, cd's, armguards, and books and magazines for these guys to pass the time beween patrols.
I was doing a search of information for a small presentation I will be doing next month at our MLA banquet and came across this post. I haven't been here in some time but do pop in from time to time and was pleased to see this.
Take a moment to check out our website and scroll half way down to the picture of the Camp Cuervo Archery Club we where sent and then click on their website we have created in which all the pictures they have sent me are displayed along with others. There is also a tribute that is worth checking out. If you have any archery items you don't need laying around you can either send them to us or directly to Camp Cuervo Archery Club in Iraq where the Chaplains will make sure that they will continue to be used by the men stationed there. A new group will be replacing these men in a few months and we hope to continue this archery club in Iraq as long as there in a need for our men to be there.

Thanks,
John D. Vasos
