This is near where we saw the big elk we stalked. This is what you are looking for, an open meadow above timberline where they will feed and then melt back into dark timber soon after daylight. By the way, that saddle is the continental divide and the border of our unit. It was snow up high and rain down low. Be prepared for all kinds of weather.

My biggest failure equipment wise was shoes that would keep my feet dry.

This is that same meadow up close. Chest high brush was wet and the meadow was tundra bog. Last day I wore hip waders and really liked the protection they gave. Wouldn't work for the climb up but once out of the rocks into the meadow it was perfect.

I shot a Doe today. Its a small one but NJ is a earn a Buck State and you must shoot a Doe before you shoot a Buck. I am not to picky on the first one. No more Doe shooting on the NJ Lease. Just Bucks now. i will be out a few Days this week. Try and post the picture on the scorecard thread as soon as I can.

Thanks. I want to hunt Iowa some day. I have 3 NR points in my pocket for your Great State. I would like to do a Elk trip out west but Iowa is calling that's for sure!
