Thanks fellas. Its going to be warm here for the next 7-10 days & when we get that cold snap, Im going to be working the rattling horns. But Im still going to shoot every doe that walks into bow range. 8)

Nice doe jason, its a great feeling to get the first one of the season out of the way and in the freezer.

No bucks for me yesterday, just a few does came through. Not going to be able to go out until friday, weather man is talking over 50mph wind here tommarrow and thursday so i think i will stay home.

Thanks Marty. Shes a little puny but she made for some great backstrap sandwiches today for lunch. :party0005:

As for 50mph winds, you couldnt pay me to go into the timber in those kind of winds. Better to be safe than sorry.

sdhunter11 10-16-2012 03:41 PM

I love hunting on windy days, but my max is about 30mph, out here it is windy more than it is calm so it is just one of those variables you have to deal with, but yeah 50mph is a little exessive lol.

Going to hit a stand on the way home from work tonight. The neighbor of the property I hunt has a 13 pt on cam there. Here's hopin!

Good luck Jason! We need another buck on the scorecard to really secure the lead. So no pressure buddy. lol

dmax4me 10-17-2012 01:52 PM

Congrats on the does guys. We're building a lead. I can't wait to get back out to Ohio this weekend.

sdhunter11 10-17-2012 03:42 PM

good luck this evening jason, a 13-pointer would look nice on a score card.

So howd your hunt go Jason? Any sightings or sign of this east coast monster?

RisnerPSE 10-18-2012 02:11 PM

Posting from the stand. Beautiful sunny evening here in the heart of it all, ohio. Nothing moving as of yet but there is still an hour and a half until dark. Hope everyone is having some good luck but if not i hope your having fun because thats what its all about.

Arkansasmountainman 10-18-2012 04:39 PM

well i smacked another doe... i watched her walk up the trail and i was in an improvised blind, so i thought to my self, ill draw my bow and see if she sees me, i drew my bow and she stepped out at 20 yds, when the pin settled, i guess my finger was used to pulling a trigger cause it over reacted and squeezed one off, oh well another one in the freezer

sdhunter11 10-20-2012 03:19 PM

pretty quiet lately, you guys busy taking bucks to the taxidermist?

Bowman4440 10-21-2012 08:02 AM

No bucks seen on stand yet, the acorns are all over the place so the deer are really just wandering around its been tough. Duck season opened up so I think I'll do a little of that then get back to the bowhunting. My little girl should be here any day now so hopefully I can get lucky and poke a doe one of these evenings

Mottz 10-21-2012 09:07 AM

Got this girl down this morning. Now I am ready for a buck!

On_Point 10-21-2012 09:52 AM

Congrats on the does Ryan & Afton!!! :party0005:

sdhunter11 10-21-2012 10:03 AM

Great job guys, I went out on friday afternoon, The pickup had a hell of time getting me there though, seen alot of does but no bucks.

I think the old trucks computer is going out so i guess i am going to have to bite the bullet and get a new one this week. no sense in sticking money in a truck with over 200,000 miles on it.

On_Point 10-21-2012 10:33 AM

Team Pass Thru has a score of 254 4/8. We are ranked 1st of 16 teams. We have more kills than any other team with 6 of our possible 11 does tagged already & 1 of 11 bucks entered. We've killed 7 of our allotted 22 deer & we haven't even begun to hunt the rut. Great job fellas. But dont think that we've secured a lead, everything can change when the other teams start putting down big bucks. We need to continue this same momentum through the rest of Oct. & into the pre-rut & through each stage of the season.

Our team thread post count is something else also. Were pushing 500 posts. Keep up the same momentum there too. We're doing a great job & well on our way to winning this, so keep hunting hard & remember to be safe & smart.

I know your frustration Marty. Old trucks have a way of ****ting out during deer season dont they. I think every truck that Ive ever owned ran fine until deer season & as soon as the season came in, the truck went to **** & cost me $$$. lol. Just roll with the punches man.

On_Point 10-21-2012 10:57 AM

I went out Friday & Saturday & didn't see anything either day. I'm ready for some cold weather, pre-rut hunting, but the weather forecast for the upcoming week predicts highs in the 80's. I'm expecting the October Lull to be in full force until the cold snap that follows this Indian summer & then the action will fire up & the "Big Ones" will be on their feet during shooting hours. Oh the anticipation!

sdhunter11 10-21-2012 02:26 PM

yea i was saving up for a black bear hunt in ontario next fall but i guess that is going to go for a down payment now, some times your the bug and sometimes your the windshield i guess lol.

Mottz 10-23-2012 02:22 PM

2 days without a post??? Whats goin on guys?

Well I didn't have any luck in Ohio this weekend. The only buck I saw was a 6 point.
My brother-inlaw shot an 8 point on Saturday morning about 400 yards from my stand.
I scored it at 122 1/8". It's his biggest buck to date.

On_Point 10-23-2012 04:54 PM

Congrats to your brother-n-law, he looks like a pretty happy guy.

The October lull is even effecting us here at the forum. lol
Ive been getting things in order to hunt hard over the weekend. Cold front moving in so things should be happening in the deer wood Saturday & Sunday.

kellyguinn 10-23-2012 06:31 PM

I'll be out sat thru Wednesday with the smoke pole but I'll have the bow with me just in case. We have a decent cold front coming in, maybe it will get em moving

RisnerPSE 10-24-2012 06:41 AM

That must be nice to be able to carry a gun and bow. In ohio your only allowed to carry one at a time.

On_Point 10-24-2012 07:12 PM

Hunted today, but no deer. It was 80f here & the deer were obviously feeling it. Didnt see any deer moving until after dark on the drive home. Really hoping to see some pre-rut action over the weekend. Theyre forecasting lows in the 30s & highs in the upper 40s for saturday & sunday. Time to kill some deer!

dmax4me 10-25-2012 04:10 PM

It's been pretty warm here and the deer just don't seem to be moving much.
I haven't seen anything bigger than a 6 point yet.

On_Point 10-25-2012 05:12 PM

The forecast here in Illinois is looking great. A system out of the North is pushing in now & the high temps for the next 7 days arent above 48f. The Pre-Rut is on!!!

sdhunter11 10-25-2012 06:17 PM

Im headin out in the morning, temps are going to go down to 24F tonight and it is only a high of 38F tomarrow so hopefully this colder weather will get the movin more.

Good luck & stay warm.

Mottz 10-26-2012 08:07 AM

The temp and the winds sound like a very favorable advantage for me this weekend. Now just to be able to get out there. Think I am also going to try with the decoy and some calling techniques and see if that stirs anything up. Also, I am taking my neighbor for his 1st time bowhunting. He went last weekend with me to watch and he seen deer and turkeys so now I believe he is hooked.

On_Point 10-26-2012 11:07 AM

Good luck to the two of you.

sdhunter11 10-26-2012 04:34 PM

bad luck struck again this morning, about 15 minutes after sunrise i heard an explosion of branches breaking and hooves headed my way, a nice buck came storming by me at about 10 yards with 4 coyotes nipping at his heals, i have never seen coyotes take after a healthy deer before so i dont know what the deal was, i hung around until 10 am and seen lots of does but no more bucks.

On_Point 10-27-2012 08:10 AM

Sounds like its time to do some coyote hunting there.

monoped 10-27-2012 08:23 AM

Years ago when i ran hounds, the young, uns showed interest in deer,i always thought as strong a scent they left a big part of the reason. Get a smelly buck or doe peeing on her hocs it should be very easy to locate from a great distance and then not loose it. My money on the canine, better heart and lungs for the chase. Sounds like along with onpoints suggestion a trapper could help too.

sdhunter11 10-27-2012 10:04 AM

They are getting bad, i wish i was worth a damn at calling them in. Maybe mange will come through and thin them out again.

Either mange or a .223. :fighting0007:

sdhunter11 10-27-2012 04:24 PM

The .223 is ready but have never killed a coyote with it. seem to have better luck killin yotes while bird hunting or archery deer hunting. Never to worry though, the reason i was holding back was because i only had 2 broadheads left, but i re-stocked on friday so they are pretty much done for now. Believe it or not i have had more shots a coyotes out of the stand than deer, and this has been an amazing deer season for me.

Bowman4440 10-28-2012 06:43 AM

Well hurricane sandy will be putting a damper on my deer hunting for the week been seeing some does no daytime horns yet, my trail cam was stolen sometime in the past 4 days so I'm pretty annoyed at the whole deer hunting thing. My baby girl should be here any day now she's getting induced wensday so deffinatelly by then. May end up weathering the storm at the hospital just to be safe. There's a myth that low pressure causes women to go into labor so id rather not have to deal with trying to get to the hospital in the middle of a hurricane. All of the barrier islands are being evacuated but not the mainlands yet. We will see what happens!

jemrami9 10-28-2012 07:06 AM

Nice work on the doe friend!
