Will i finally got out friday night, light rain most time. Had 2 turkeys come in but stay out about 75 yards, thats all i seen friday night. Saturday morning get up and out before sun is up. got up in same stand from night before seen 3 does but to far away. Went to house for lunch then was back out, change to my fav stand. Was there about 5 mins had nice doe come in 10 yards but i pass. She was checking the scrapes in front of stand, she left then about 30 mins here come little 1 1/2, 3 pointer. Let him go by then about 4 oclock nice 3 1/2 9pointer (130 inch) comes in to 1 of the 4 scrapes. I Got ready but he was all nerves then he left, and about 5 mins later he came back but was on a different trail and it was the only trail i have no shot on. Then he got spooked by something of to my right, and he took off. 30 mins later i found out what spooked him , stupid coyete. That how my week end went ,not hunting tommorrow

Hey guys just wanted to get your opinions. I have a stand I don't use alot and I was thinking about moving it into the corner where that big buck walked through this past evening. I know this is a very hot corner and I always thought about putting a stand there but because of this or that I never have. I usually don't move stands once the season starts but if I can get a crack at this deer, not only could he get us on the board he may put us on top of the board. this deer has to be between 160- 180. I just don't want to do anything to spook him before the rut. But, if I could take him out before the rut it would be awesome.

awesome guys!!! sounds like both of ya'll are on some nice bucks!! close encounters this early is a GREAT thing!! time in the woods aughta put it all together!
MOTF, if you dont use the stand much and always wanted a stand in that corner, id say go for it! sneak in during mid day, or better yet IMO, a rainy day..hang it..give it a few days and go back and hunt it...heck, if you are good about it i dont see why you couldnt hunt it THAT day...i wouldnt go all out and bush wack shootin lanes or anything...but putting a stand up shouldnt hurt...i hunt from a climber 99% of the time...i dont have the expirience or big bucks that many guys do on this forum...but, ive spent some time in the woods...
im still really down and frustrated about the stand i found in my favorite spot...stinks...but, maybe it'll work out for me...it will get me out of there and not wasting time in there...last year it was kind of a dud even though i played the cards about as right as possible IMO...seen probably all the bucks that use that spot in there...the only real shooter last year was a BIG half rack...i seen him early in the season...i wanted to hold out...but didnt realize how big or old he was till he got closer...i said well, if i can still see my pin im drillin him at 8yds. i hit full draw and didnt feel i could make the shot...i could see my pin..i could see him...but i couldnt make out where that pin was...so i passed..never seen him again...last year it was full of 1.5yo sub-legal bucks that didnt meet ARs...after walking around to that guys stand today, i really didnt see the sign i used to either...so maybe it'll all work out for me...i got a few new spots in mind...but heck, i dont know...i hate change! lol...i like to know i have an ole faithful...confidence is clutch to me...but i proved to myself last year that i CAN pick spots and be into deer...seen alot of deer last year hunting spots on a whim...
heading to my buddies camp in 2 weeks...weekend of the 24th i believe were gunna head up..i killed my first and only bow kill buck up there...the deer REALLY respond to scents and calling up there...even BIG bucks..which is REALLY odd for my neck of the woods...i dont understand it...our buck to doe ratio is MUCH better around home...but camp does out number bucks hard core and they respond much better to calling and scents than deer around here do...my guess is the lack of hunting pressure..but i dont know...but im excited to head up there...i seen about 30 deer up there on the rifle opener last year...3 for sure bucks...1 shooter...had a ton slip by that im almost certain had head gear...i got a couple really promising spots picked out to hunt up there..not sure how long i'll stay...they are practically family and my buddy already told me i can go when i want dont wait on him...may go up early..may stay longer..we'll see!
good luck guys keep at it! its early yet and some of you guys are on good deer...hopefully i can help out...even if its only 60 or 70"...im just looking for my 2nd bowkill...id like it to be atleast 2.5yo though...we'll see what i get into...i doubt i pass a legal basket rack 1.5yo...but still gotta have 4 on a side here and 3 on a side at camp...

I may try going out in the evening on Monday again. I might rig up a ground blind and try and catch that big boy walking by. I am going out Tuesday at noon and moving that stand. My son will probably go out Monday morning. He saw 4 Sunday morning and said they were nothing to write home about.

Well I went out thursday nite in hopes of harvesting the first nice deer that came within range. that didnt happen....but I did find that the bucks are starting to scrape. I was walking down to my river bottom stand and found one fresh scrape along the way, this got me excited. Then I got to my river stand and found the 2 big scrapes that have been made there the last 3-4 years were freshly scraped. Now im real anxious to hunt that river stand. Its a hike but its a great spot. Im hoping to get out there tonight if the weather cooperates. We have snow moving in again today. i woke this mornign to see 1/4 inch of the white stuff on the ground. This should really get the deer moving now....woot!

got into a new spot today around 2...found what i thought was the ideal place to observe and likely get a shot at anything coming out...i was just off the corner of a corn field down in a bottom in the dead center of the block..as far from roads and houses and barns as you can get around here..VERY thick stuff in the draw 100yds away from me..and alot of thick stuff on the far hillside...weve jumped good bucks in both areas in past rifle seasons..
where i was setup i had an old ATV path the met an old logging road/ATV path...the deer are using both...plus i could see some faint trails coming from the thick stuff infront of me..and know a few other trails i could see that enter the field...
i was settled in by 230...tree was OK..wish i could gotten 5-8ft more higher but i had cover and it wasnt bad..
sat till dark...never seen a single deer...
really not a ton of sign down there..but if anywheres going to hold deer, its that area...thick stuff everywhere and 2 standing corn fields...its too perfect not to hold deer IMO...last year i seen a decent number of deer down there and there wasnt as much corn...
getting frustrated...but its early and i got time and the more i think the more locations im coming up with to try...it just honestly seems like theres hardly any deer around this year...spotting at night we are turning up pretty much nothing..not even does..i dont know where they are...they werent in the half of the corn field i could see this evening...acorns are almost non exsistant so they almost have to be hitting corn hard..but theres so much standing corn i cant figure them out...not to mention it could be a poor year and there really may be not to many around...
im sticking with it though...just loosing the drive to get outta bed in the morning lol...i didnt get out this morning and i wont tomorrow..mainly because no motivation and i dont have a spot i am wanting to bust into in the dark right now..still planning the next move..though this evenings spot is too promising looking to just give up on already...i know later in the season it aughta be hot..maybe...

I didn't get out Monday evening, but if I get off work early I will be going out Tuesday morning. I will then move my stand and my son and I will hit it again in the evening. Hopefully one of us will get a crack at that big boy, and hopefully it will be me. We did watch from a distance Monday evening and didn't see anything come out of that corner. So, hopefully, Tuesday will be the magical night.

I didnt get out lastnight as I was hoping, the weather just didnt cooperate the way I had hoped until after 5. Looks like a good day today, temps in the mid 40s and partly cloudy. Wondering how soon I should break out the old buck roar or buck growl and hit the rattle bag. I havent seen any bucks sparing yet. Maybe this cold will trigger some more action.
