Just a quick update on my hunting Journal

October 1---Had to work unfortuanetly.
My buddy calls me up at 6:40 in the evening telling me he got a small buck--I was estatic,he asked what time I was off and I said in 20 minutes. He waited for me to meet him in the woods and help track his deer.My son and I grabed some flashlights. We found the arrow and the blood trail started off good then went to small spots.Rob was getting worried as the blood almost dissapeared. We found some more in the field and decided he was heading to the field edge and heading to the woods. We found his blood at the fence and it started showing real good.About 50 yards into the woods we found it,a small 7 inch spike horn.

October 2---working

October 3----Got to my stand about 1/2 hour before light, seen nothing, busted 2 does on the way in.
Went back in the afternoon for the evening hunt, wind was strong, stayed till dark,Nothing

October 4----Afternoon hunt,Went out with buddy. He sat in his stand and I went to the other end of the 50 acre field to ground blind.I had high hopes something was going to come out of trail but nothing happened.Got dark and met my bud back at my truck. He showed me the bloody arrow and I congratulated him.Took me to his stand and turned out to be a big 10 pointer weighing 201 field dressed.

October 5----Working ---Working all weekend, will be back at her on Monday
October 8------Went to groundblind in FF.On stand at around 6:00 AM-6:30 a big mature doe came into the opening and hung around for 5 minutes before leaving into the woods.
20 minutes later a raccoon sauntered by and climbed into a tree right beside me,had no idea I was there.
5 minutes after the raccoon passed by a big doe came over the fence and knew something wasnt right, the scent was blowing in her direction but couldent figure out where it was coming from, she began feeding on the grass and out came her 2 fawns. They hung around for about 20 minutes being 10 feet from me at times.1 was a doe fawn and the other was a buck fawn.
Great morning, never released an arrow but it was great to be back out again.

October 9----Evening hunt, nothing in the field in Fallbrooke, quiet night.Light rain and breezy.
Will be back out on Friday
October 12----On stand at 4:00 for evening hunt.About 1 hour into hunt a Big doe and button buck came into apples in Fallbrooke stand. She ate apples and licked the Trophy Rock for quite sometime as the little buck hung around eating shrubs.Off into the field they went.Got out just before dark.Didnt want to scare the doe and little guy off as they were feeding.
Slight breeze and sun shining

All in all guys I am having a pretty good season,no bucks yet.The cold weather has finally moved in and the deer are starting to move around alot more.Going down to 2c tonight and frost in morn. Will be back out tomorrow evening.

Awesome pronghorn HowlerCongrats

Thanks man.

Your coon incident reminds that my buddy was in his DB blind with his dad and daughter one evening last winter and a coon happened by and my buddy starting poking a stick out under the blind and that dang coon came over and starting grabbing at it. HE was filming and you can actually see the coons paw coming under the blind trying to grab the stick. Before the coon left it sat up on his hind legs and looked into the blind. It's a pretty funny piece of film.

Stick with it, sounds like the action is starting to heat up in your neck of the woods. A cool front is coming our way this weekend, BUT I'm on call! So no play time for me![:@]

Unfortunately I didn't make it out hunting this morning. Last night around 10pm my eye started itching like crazy. Then it went from an annoying itch to a very painful one. An hour later my eye was swollen up like I had been hit by boxer. LOL And not just my eye lids. My the white part of my eyeball was swollen too. Almost looked like it had fluid underneath. When I'd move my eye side to side the surface would wrinkle almost looked like a breast implant. I thought about going to the ER but since the itching had stopped and there was no discomfort I decided to sleep on it. I read online that these are symptoms of conjunctivitis. Which can becaused by numerous things especially allergies. And since my eye was itching so bad and this morning I have a stuffy nose I am assuming that is the case. Either way it's not fair it happened and ruined my hunting plans! If it were in my left eye I would have still gone hunting but my right eye is dominant and is what I use to aim my pins. And with my vision slightly blurry I decided to take no chances.

Oh well, looks like I'm going to be "sick" this week and will have to miss a day or 2. LOL

Jeramy - You got allergies man? Thats happend to me before. Could be posion ivy if you are allergic to it like me. Been there......several times and it sucks. Sorry to hear that man.

Jason - Thanks for the update man. Sounds like my season only minus the "seeing any deer" part. However, I did get a turkey with my bow! I posted the story in the main forum. Thought Id let you guys know. I dont know what is up with the deer this year. Ive come to the conclusion that all the land adjacent to mine that was logged and burnt has really hurt the deer on my land as well. They just arent there. I know of only 3 does that are moving on about 60 Acres where as last year there was more than 20. I moved to the other end of the land into a hay field yesterday afternoon where I got the turkey. I was hoping to catch the deer on the same pattern as they were last year during gun season, since I found the same trail was being used and had a couple rubs on it. I didnt see any deer but I did bust about three off the hill behind me when I went to collect my prize. Good luck to all that are hunting this week.

Went out last Saturday. At about 8 I heard a deer blowing, a lot and then a crash. My uncle and I could both hear it and he called me and said that he seen someone walking around earlier and that guy must have spooked the deer. Well about 45 mins later, a few trucks pull up about 150 yds from me and I see them enter the woods, about 15 mins later they come dragging a big 8 pt out!!! (I couldn't see it was an 8 pt till I got to the check-in station but I could see it was a big deer).

Went back out at 1 and sat til 7:15, didn't hear or see anything. This weekend is my last weekend to help the team out and then archery is over for me.

Good luck everyone!

Good luck whitetailhunter. I haven't but barely gotten started with my seasons, and yours is almost over.
I was suppose to be back on the farm in KS. by now. They've been getting so much rain that we're not able to get any farming done so my brother wanted me to wait another week before going back. SO, next Thursday after I get off from work, I'm heading to KS. I will be doing some farming, barring any more rain between now and then, BUT I will also find my way out to deer hunt some too. I'll be back there for 10 days total. If I don't get a buck on this trip, I'll be going back for 4 days for Thanksgiving too, and will try again then.
Also plan to go out this Sunday to look for a big mulie locally again. Suppose to be a high of 39 with a chance of rain or snow. I'd love to see some snow on the ground.

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. Things have been really hectic for me. I made it out yesterday and today but had no luck. The deer were plentiful and active but I did not see one legal shooter. And all of the doe that I did see were too small so I let them walk. I'll be back out probably Tuesday morning if the weather cooperates.

Hope you guys are all doing well!
