What do you think of electronic callers? Are those for the amateurs or what?
If you can afford the better units such as a Fox Pro or Minaska Bandit, they are a great tool. Totally necassary, NO. But they do give a great boost to success especially for beginners that may not be able to produce the right sounds and tempo of hand calls. With that said, I have a FX3 Fox Pro, but rarely use it. If I were hunting thicker cover, that would probably change because they do come in handy, especially when hunting alone, to get the sound away from you and to help pull the coyote into the area that you're wanting to get the shot at. When hunting with a partner, you can do as well with hand calls, simply have a shooter sit up to watch the downwind side and have the caller sit where he can cover the other direction.
Those E-callers aren't cheap, BUT they are effective. I just don't really need one and I can do as well with hand calls.

Yes they are fairly common free ranging animals. I set up on hogs like a would a deer. I would look around a creek for wallows and rootings an maybe hang out an empty 3 liter coke bottle with corn and water in it. Make sure to cut holes around the side but leave the top intact. They love that stuff man it stinks though.

Coyotes - If a cow dies we usually go and dump its carcass around a field edge or a little closer to the middle and sit and wait, with a spot light, and a rifle. People despise them where Im from. I dont really care they are just another animal in the woods to me.

Man I have been busy the past week. Well hunting season starts in 16 days!!!

I ordered a STS from MeanV so hopefully I get that by this weekend so I can shoot my bow a few hundred times! We are also heading out to our spot to see whats been going on for the last time until season begins.

How is everyone's season going so far?

You're going to love the STS. Just make sure you tie on some serving where the string will be hitting it. I'm really surprised bow manufactures haven't started installing similar devices at the factory.

Sheez, we were almost slipped down to the 3rd page, can't have that
I wanted to tell you guys back east about what you're missing out here west. I took a friend out yesterday to burn some powder, over a prairie dog town. Between us, we only shot 175 rds. Probably killed about 140-150 more prairie dogs, and as we were leaving, hardly looks like they'd been shot at all summer. I love this Savage VLP .204 that I am using.
Also kinda kept an eye out for a particular pronghorn that I hoping to kill in about 4 weeks. We got him nick named "slanter" because one of his horns is slanted foreward at about 45 degrees. Saw him two years ago, and the year before that, BUT didn't see him last year. Hardly any hunting pressure, so if he died, might have been during the nasty snow and cold winter we had last winter.
We also saw 6 coyotes. Three on the way to the ranch and 3 while we were there. Looks like calling will be good again this winter. I got my rifle cleaned this a.m. and am now reloading, gotta be ready in case someone else wants to go do some shooting.

Sounds like good hunting there Howler! Always wanted to hunt pronghorns. Maybe someday I'll plan a trip.

Looks like we are getting our first taste of fall this week. Supposed to be near 80 today and tomorrow but then fall off the rest of the week into the low-mid 70's. My WMU starts an early 2 week antlerless season a week from today and right now the forecast calls for a low of 54 and a high of 69. Looks like it's going to be a good morning to hunt!

Jeramy, the new Hoyt bows come with a very similar STS.

Well I went scouting today. There was a ton of hog sign and a fresh buck rub. I got all my shooting paths cleared and laid out some Beast Feast for the pigs and deer.

We left the woods and started heading to the camp and got about a mile or less from my stand and a nice 6 pt crossed the road ahead of our truck.

This weather is getting old-hot and humid all week and calling for a hight of 2c sunday night with frost warnings all week--nothing like working your way into the cooler weather.Looking forward to it though come October 1st in the stand.
I really want to buy a STS myself but no-where around sells them-maybe get one ordered soon and see what happens.
Good luck with that Pronghorn Howler, looking forward to the pics in 4 weeks.

Yip, finally looking like we're going to get some fall weather here too. A high of 52 tomorrow and a low of 37! Snow forcasted for the high country, which will really get the elk crancked up. I'm going to miss chaseing them this year.

Looking forward to do some real hunting, instead of just shooting p-dogs! BUT after shooting a critter that is about 4" wide and 10" tall out to 300 yards, everything else will seem like a chip shot.

I've had anrear mount STS on my bow for a couple of years now. Nothing else on the string except mytubeless peep. No bow jump and plenty quiet.
