Thnx Rob. I'll take a little luck any day. Here is a pic I took with my crappy digi camera fully zoomed. I cropped out his head because he was just a dot in the picture. I didnt have binocs out as I was walking to my truck and saw antlers but wasnt sure what he was. Again, not a monster but still pretty decent.

Hi guys..I'm back. Haven't had a chance to catch up on the reading yet. Long story short.. the wife and I both came back----up. Not enough to head to Perlitz Ranch, but paid for the trip room and meals etc and still came home with more than we left with! If you've ever been to Vegas THAT's about as good as it gets. (short of a mega jack-pot) More later... 300+ emails to catch up on..

Happy Be-lated Birthday Millertime. Hope ya had a great one!

Nice looking pics there Diesel. You've got some good quality bucks there! Never thought of Md as a big buck State but I had Fshfly on my team last year and he always had bigbuck pics and took a dandy of a 157". Where is Damascus in relation to Cumberland? (my parents lived there for a while in the 80's). I made the trip a quite a few times.

Well we are on the count-down a month to go! My best chance at a boomer is pre-rut. The last time I had a really great buck patterned on his early season routine, I got to my stand and there was a guy behind every tree (public land). The guy who was in "my tree" killed the big 10 at first light. I can usually get a "shooter" in the early season but I'm usually over-patient thinking about the rut. If we need an early season photo to stir some interest and get on the board;) Perhaps I won't be so picky. I have would still have PA and a few other options available for a "hold-out" buck.

Most of your seasons will come in ahead of our Sept 29th..so we'll hopefully be on the board by then.

The only concern this year is the acorn crop..it's gonna be non-existant!

Im about 1.5 hrs SE of Cumberland. And there are no big bucks in MD!

LIke this guy my bow hunting partner got on his cam 2 seasons ago. Too bad he can only get and huntout 1 day a week lol.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

Or this little buck that was taken last year lol. It was taken with a shotgun so it doesnt count! Im sure you have seen pictures of it from last year but if not, start drooling. MD isnt that big so there arent as many hunters as most states, but for its size there are areas of quality deer.

Damn, bro move over, I'm headin down! Great bucks. I didn't see anything on that last one..and I don't know how, he should be everywhere by now!

Where's Jim out buying a digi-cam lol... Nice pictures you have there too, buddy. Hope that dude was on the back of your Deere and not trespassing ...lol [:o] :D;)

C'mon down!! If you get here before Sat at noon you can do some dove hunting with me lol. Stop by andpick upRob on the way. Where I dove hunt is only 30 minutes from Cumberland. Im sure Rob can do some wing shooting while sitting. Heck we can even drive him right to his spot and dump him off with a recliner,no walking necessary!

Hey guys I'm leaving in the morning for four days of goose hunting with some dove shooting thrown in for sport.
Nothing new in the woods ,I will move my "neighbor cam" for the weekend and maybe next week I'll have something better to post.

After cleaning out Vegas I'll leave the captain to keep us on top.

You guys all have a great one ,Jim

This is a picture of a friends son and his first goose from last year.

Congrats Gr8. I have never won anything in Vegas. However, it is always a good time people watching.

The small acorn crop should help the midwest. With the huge stands of red and white oak around here acorns mean no deer movement. They bed down wherever they want and don't even have to get up to eat.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

Hey guys, thanks for all the b-day wishes, I have been busy lately and haven't had a whole lot of time to get on here. I did have a pretty good birthday, nothing special, just worked and came home to my favorite meal (chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy) and relaxed.

I didn't realize that MD had deer like that, I am very impressed.I am in the same boat as Gr8, I have never seen or heard of that buck, that thing has to set some records or be at the top.

Congrats on the good fortune Gr8, hope you can carry that luck over into the season.

Well, I won't bore you all with a lot of details, but I am in the process of moving and having my work schedule changed. I moved to SE Okla. 2 years ago b/c of my job. Now they have switched me to a 14 days on, 14 days off rotation, as opposed to the regular Monday thru Friday. That allows the wife and I to move back closer to the central part of the state, where we are both from. So now.....we are looking for a house and will be moving before the end of the year. Rest assured, I will definately get my time in on the stand and still make my hunt that I drew in for. This has its adv. and disadv.......advantages: I will have 14 days off to hunt, scout, whatever I please, and be able to live closer to home where my hunting grounds are. Disadvantages: I will be busy looking at houses and moving, the days I will be working might be prime time, and I won't be able to hunt while I am working.

So......bear with me guys, there might be times when I won't get on here as much as usual b/cI have a lot on my plate right now. But likeI said earlier, I WILL find time to get in the stand.

Good luck Jim and you too Millertime on the move. Man did the board crash yesterday or was that sheduled maintenance? I had a long reply to something hit submit and that was the end of it! I hate when that happens.

Anyones season start tomorrow?? We got till Sept 29th..but I may go chase a Squirrel or just head to the rifle range for some practice with inline and let the boy shoot the 6mm..and .22 and what-ever else he wants.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

Just finished packing the truck ,I got the neighbor cam moved this morning.
Last night my wife was picking peppers and onions to make tomato sauce over the weekend when she thought some one was watching her.
I had the dog with me and got held up at a blood drive and so she was alone. As she loaded the gator with the veggies she looked down the woods line and that damn bear thats been trashing my corn was sitting on his azz watching her ,just waiting for her to leave so he couldget back to eating more of my corn. She chased him across the field with the gator so with luck I will have some corn left for the deer & turkeys this winter.

Good luck to all and have a great Holiday, Jim :)

Firemedic your acorn crop is poor too? We've been on a bad run lately in these parts for 3 years or so. Gotta be the dry heat??

Millertime don't worry about getting on line..we know you're out there. Hopefully once the season gets kicking everyone will be in to report..sightings, and such. That's what makes this crazy contest fun.

Have a safe Labor day all..I'll check in from time to time. Just to bump us up! ;)

Diesel..I'm gonna shoot you a PM of my personal #'s and email..just in case you are trying to get hold of me when I'm not online at work.

GR8atta2d 08-31-2007 01:10 PM

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

I'm so mad I could spit! I had the "new" property..the guy gave me verbal permission over the phone at the time he was busy and couldn't sign the slip. But he said to follow up after my vacation to get the written permission as required by Ohio Law. I just called him, figured I could do some more in depth scouting this weekend. (it's where the last batch of pics came from).

He told me a sale is pending on the land and he doesn't want to chance messing it up by letting anyone hunt it this year. He said if the deal falls through he'll call me! What could I do..but say "thank-you sir". So now I got a less than a month to the season and have lost 2 tracts that total about 400+/- acres.

Kinda late to be knocking on doors..but I'm gonna have to hit it! I can't freakin believe it... If I hit this lotto for 300 million I'm gonna buy Kansas and post the whole frigging thing at the borders!

Germ I search leases a couple times a week..not many very close by and tough to pay 2-5 k to kill one buck..I have decent public grounds but it too is a 45 minute drive..................................errrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Diesel77 08-31-2007 04:30 PM

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

Oh man that sux GR8. At this point you just need to solidify a spot, wether its a lease or public land, or guess what, you think 45 minute drive is bad, youll be driving 12 hours to hunt with me : ) Maybe you can post on the local Ohio web sites for some one that knows of property. I have done the door to door thing. Just smile wether they say yes or no. What county are you in Gr8?? I know a few people your way withsome properties. I think they are in Monroe and Vinton. Let me find out.

My main property I hunt is55miles away from work and 45miles from home. I do the drive every day once opening day gets here unless hell freezes over, or the wife needs me home for something really important, otherwise im in a tree. My office is 58 miles from my house, thats alot of driving in a week but its all worth it. If I miss just one night, I cant sleep, I keep thinking that monster just walked under my stand, I just know IT! lol.

You think you got your hands full now Mantis, wait till he's born . Is this your First?
Yeah Silver, he’s our first. Crazy days (and nights) ahead I’m sure. I’m trying to get all the squeaky wheels greased now so I can devote all free time to tree time.

Hey Tembry the lucky bastard went bowhunting today didn’t he? I believe we are due for a teaser report.

Millertime, good luck moving into a new home. Just do me a favor and please don’t buy a fixer upper. You will get very little time to hunt. Trust me!;)

Gr8atte, It sucks loosing property no doubt. Keep your head up and continue looking for land you’ll find something. Also it’s a good idea to never stop looking for land because nothing stays in your possession for a lifetime unless you own it and can pay the taxes. And with a million other things that can make a place go bad it’s always nice to have a handful of locations you can retreat to at the drop of a hat.

Diesel is your garage a fixer upper? I’m moving in!:)

Bawanajim, your wife chases bears? Sounds like a women not to be messed with or taken lightly. Good for her!

Firemed, where do you work? Are you an IAFF’er? How long have you been on the job? I work at the City of Corning Fire Dept. Local 932. Started part time when I was 19 and a year later hired full time going on 9 years now. No better job on the earth.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

You know I never looked it up till now. I could be there in an hour and a half. Shoot brotha I’ve been close to you’re home so many times. Maybe I should buy a PA license again this year after all. I bet I could pull some half day hunts without falling asleep at the wheel. We’ll have to see how the baby behaves himself and of course run the idea by momma when the time is right but it sounds doable. Oh and there’s plenty of birds around to make complete fools out of us. Sometimes one actually gives himself up just to prove it can be done. Amanda shot one this spring, her first turkey. I was ten yards from her on that setup and couldn’t give her the command to shoot. She didn’t need me as she proved. Just when I was thinking to myself “now, now, now” she rolled him.

The house… Should be able to take it all in, in say five years.[&:] I must say it’s been a real eye opener on the finer aspecs of remodeling ie; cost, time, you know the little things like that. The two major projects I had to have complete before fall, the baby room, and the bow/gun room will be done in the next week. Well the baby room anyway. My room doesn’t NEED all the “trim” right away of course. I don’t want to give anything away before the pictures but think 32"x10’ copper top workbench. It’s gonna look sick up against freshly polyurethane log walls. I hope anyway.

Well I better get some sleep, goodnight everyone!:)

Wow hold on, two months! That doesn't sound like a sprained ankle. I heard a little mumbling about a leg injury but I figured it was minor. You will be able to hunt right? And even if not from a tree, I have a double bull T5 I know you could utilize. I'll run the thing down beforeyour seasonopener.

Sorges restaurant on Market St. I believe you were the one that told me that 7yrs ago when I became a member here.

Diesel, I can live with that.;)

Rob/PA Bowyer 09-02-2007 07:36 AM

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

MM, your exactly right it was Sorges but it's been years...lol Maybe I'll bring the wife up for dinner and you guys could meet us. ?

No, it wasn't a sprained ankle, I ruptured my Achillies tendon. The doc wrote me off 3 months and surgery was 3 weeks ago this past Thursday. I'm suppose the have this cast on (no weight) for another week and half and he'll reassess....perhaps another 3 weeks after that. I'm following Gr8's recovery, he did the same thing and at just less than 60 days he's in tennis shoes so I'm hopeful. That puts me at Oct 7 so you bet your ass I'll be hunting. I appreciate the offer on the DB. I have one blind and access to others. If I can make the field, I can make the treestands.....I know, I know me. ;)

Yup, and oddly enough Diesell, you must have ESPN;) I just said that to the wife last night as I drove past my hunting grounds. I said I'm going to do that....it's my left leg that's injured in an automatic truck. ;) :D
