RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
he guys, went out wood duck huntin for the opener of early season today and we freakin mauled them. non stop action, but cant kill too many when the limit is two per person[&:]. limited out for 5 people though.the cool part of the story is one of my buddies that went, it was his first duck hunt ever. so when a group of 4 tried landing on us, we let him shoot first and he dropped one, i folded one of the birds flaring off and my other friend unloaded on the other two but missed. we both went to retrieve our birds. his was chest deep in the reeds(had waders on) but mine fell up in the woods. I got to mine and it tried flying away, it got to 35-40 yards and wasnt stopping so i dropped it again. bout the time i picked it up i realized it was banded, and heard my buddy yell out hey it has a band thing on its foot:D
so we doubled up on banded woodies, my first band, and his first duck ever. wat are the odds? this weekend we should be bowhunting mornings and duck huntin evenings if everything works out as planned. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Great bull Jim, Kind of hard to smile when your hind quarters are up around your neck trying to keep the rest of your body warm aint it? :D
Not a Tarzan fan are ya Bawana? When my Bird Dogs are barking I stick my head out the back door and yell SIMBA... UNGAWA and they all shut up and go lay down, trained them that way when they were pups, the part time neighbors on one side of me think im nuts, but their young and dont have a clue. Thats awesome TEmbry, double banded woodies, and his first! Good luck this weekend. Could be worse Diesel, Look at GR8, if his season doesn't open soon hes gonna be shooting from 100 yards with the opposite hand! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
LOl too funny about the dogs TE!
OH Im not complaining about not seeing bucks, I'll figure em out, its a matter of time. Im out there every evening so its going to take 1 mistake for them. Eventually I get my chance you can count on that. Im a persistent b00ger thats for sure and luckily my wonderful wife laets go out every night for a few hours, god bless her!! hehe |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Sliver I still use the old Unk Tantor from the Tarzan series..lol glad someone else remembers that! As for shooting the 100 yard practice shot that may happen (I'm routinely at 65yards now)..but the opposite hand......my step-son is left handed..I've tried to help him sight in..I can't hit the yard, left handed:D[8D]
Bawanna, Wow nice Elk! Where was that hunt?? Tembry, now thats shaping up to be a fun weekend..enjoy and Good luck! Diesel, as you know it only takes seconds for a blah night to turn into the best night ever! Keep your butt in the seat, you'll get your chance! (and so true about the Wive's..God Bless'em is right!) |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
How about these board updates lately..huh At this rate I'll get a raise at work! I keep getting too much done when HNI is down!!

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Hey guys sounds like everyones having a good time. I've typed a number of responses only to have them vanish into the cyber worlds black hole.
Trembly sounds like some great wood duck hunting, our season hasn't started yet but when it does I'll spend a few evenings in the beaver dams. Silver, the bawana comes from " Uhuru " one of Robert Ruark's greatest books. But I'm a Tarzan fan from way back. Gr8 , We elk hunt in Northern Wyoming,in the Crandall Creek area .It a beautiful place, and great hunting but some times the weather kicks our ass.But then again we have hunted in nice weather also heres a bull from about five years ago. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
That's great..I ma have to do that some-day Elk are really starting to turn me on.
Ever shot one with a bow?? I saw the Gun in the first pic..I hunt Gun and Bow and would throw twinkies at them, if there was a season for that, so don't assume any disrespect just askin. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Man, now I have to sign in every time I go to this site no matter what.
Yeah Im a huge fan of Elk. Taking a nice bull with a bow would be my ultimate goal. Last night I saw 7 deer, no bucks, hmmmmm, liitle boogers are playin hardball now! |

Hell I use a 30-378 Weatherby Mag and would use grenades if allowed. There are some guys that bow hunt the area but it is not really an option for me. The camp is at 8300 feet and we hunt up from there ,most is between 10 & 12 thousand feet.It a very steep drainage I am to old to run up & down rock slides with a stick . Bow hunting elk is a rich, young mans game & I am neither. ;) Good luck and have a great weekend. Jim |

Well guys, believe or not, I am still alive. I apologize for not being on here, I have just a lot going on. I just read from page 34 to 50, that is how far I was behind. Don't worry, come Oct. 4 I will be in stand. Our season opens Oct 1, but I don't get off until the 4th, then I will have 2 weeks off.
Congrats Tembry on the banded woodies double. Congrats to Nick and Diesel on their does. I will try to find more time to check in more and leave more updates. I apologize, this really isn't like me, just ask my teammates the last two years. Just hang with me guys. |

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Thursday the wife and I drove over to our sons house to take my granddaughter, my wifes lightweight 7mm08 and shooting sticks for this weekends youth deer hunt. Didn't want her to ring her pretty little eye with no cheep scope!
Had her shoot it 4 times to make sure she was ok with the recoil, and she put all 4 in a 2'' group at 75 yards, not to bad fora 13 year old girlsfirst time with a high powered rifle. Well She called me at 10:00am. to inform me she is now officially a deer hunter and got a spike buck this morning. (They thought it was a Doe) I got to tell you all, it was funny listening to her tell the story when she got to the part where she had chunks of lung on the ground and a blood trail that looked like you had slung it out of a bucket, just something you would not expect to come out of a pretty little girl like her! She isawesome, A Hunttress! I sure hope her brother gets one tomorrow, it might be kind of ruff around there till regular rifle season opens knowing your sister got a buck and you did not. But then my wife out hunts me (almost) every year! I go by the size of the rack, She goes by the size of the HAMS! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Still no bucks. Went out Sat morning and Sat night. Saw about 30 does sat evening and not even 1 spike, hehe. I moved a stand down into a creek bottom thicket that I know has deer moving through it.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Well the grandson pulled it off, last day of the youth season, last few minutes of light, and he laid out a Perfect 120 class 8pt with his 50 cal black powder he got for his birthday last year. Droped him in his tracks, and my son got it all on video. Killed it on my mother-in-laws 11 acres and befor he even got home he had several calls from Mi, Md, Ky, and Kansas to congratulate him, he's now a family celebrity :D.
Diesel my Son in Md is going through the same thing. He seen 3 good shooters right off the bat (no shots offered) and nothing but does and fawns the last few days. Jim thats another great bull!! GR8 hows that Leg coming along? How about it TEmbry, what did ya see this weekend? |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Wow Sliver... Rifle s booming already??? Thats some early Gun Hunting. It's (was) still Summer. Congrats to the kids though ..that's awesome!
I hear ya Diesel..man things are drying up here too, as far as spotting etc. We haven't even started yets and sightings are down..Bummer.... But the plus side is soon we'll be in the bush! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Man thats great Silver, I bet he is hooked permamnently now.
Yeah GR8, how goes the injury recovery?? Ahh, Im not worried really GR8 Im still having a blast. The real fun part starts soon, pre rut and rut, from mid Oct to Dec its much more exciting in the woods. Funny, Im not seeing any more big bucks, and 2monster bucks have been taken in MD, I made a post on the Bowhunting board with a pic. Hey, if you guys havent voted, go to this link. Trying to get some information/data for shirts. I see some of you guys have, thnx fellas http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2332665 |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Yes GR8, its a youth only 2 day season. I didn't like it at first, just because they have it around 10 days befor bowseason begins, But after this weekend and hearing the grandkids tell their own hunting story, its pretty much a good thing. It gives the parents a weekend in the woods with the kids withouta couplemillion adult gun hunters around.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Sliver..I know it depends who's kids are huntin..lol We have youth seasons in Ohio now also. I usually have the suspicion that a lot of big bucks get killed, because Dad says "he's huge son, give me the gun!" I'm probably wrong..in MOST cases.. I know when my kids are old enough I'll be all for youth seasons..So it's usually just biased!! Hey at least I admit it!
As for the leg..it's doing good. Did a little squirrel hunting this weekend on some public land. Saw 3 bushy tails didn't take any shots.I was scouting locations for the evening deer perch, in the coming weeks. It did get pretty sore after walking a ways. Gonna try a practice climb with the climber this week. Should be ok. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Silver glad to hear the kids were so successful. Its great to see that some among us understand the importanceof wildlife to todays youth. If you maybe have a Christmas rifle in mind for them take a serious look at a 243 winchester. What a great round for deer ,antelope and all round plinking. I load 95gr Nosler ballistic points for both my wife and daughter. They are devastating and very little recoil.
Nothing new here a few does & no bucks. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
I hear ya GR8, thats the other reason I did not like the thoughts of an early youth season, and one of the reasons my son videoed them.I now think the pro's outweigh the con's.
I had to laugh at it's a Big One give me the gun, you would have had to beat these kids with a club to get a gun away from them at their moment of truth :D. Dont over do the leg, I had a friend that had to have that operation twice! Jim we start them out young, even my 3 year old granddaughter has her own bow and shoots with us in the yard. Your right 243 is a good cal for kids, thats what my grandson in Kansas took his first buck with last year, and he loves his. And would make a good Christmas present for these two. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
well once again i didnt make it out this weekend. its been miserably hot outside, and ive been waiting for a little cooler weather to head back out. was going to go sunday afternoon even though i knew it would be hot, turned out to be like 96 degrees, so i took the boat to the lake for a swim/slay wood duck outing. last day of woodie season was sunday, so i figured i would make the best of it. knocked down our limit with no problem and i killed my first ever blue wing teal to boot.
if i get all my schoolwork/reseach paperscaught up this week (procrastinator) i should be free for some afternoon hunts next week after school. Maybe this weekend as well, just depends on how much mowing i have to do to catch up. No worries though, i WILL lay a buck down with my bow this year.....i hope.:D I'm contemplating takin my bow during the rifle season this year. threatened it last year but backed down and took out the .270, probably will again this year, but i cant decide yet. still 2 months away from then, but that is my favorite time to be in the woods. never no what you will see or what time it will come by. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Man woodies have to be the coolest looking ducks, and man are they fast!Sounds like you did great with them this year.
Plenty of time TE. Deer dont seem to be moving much. Its almost October and in the 90s every day, this is nuts. Im not seeing bucks at all. I saw 30 does last night, saw 9 tonight. Sooner or later it will start getting interesting once the bucks start moving around more. Be careful and dont overdo it Gr8!! We need our fearless leader!! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
OK who was it that said I'd be lobbing 100 yard shoots at my Target before long!! [:@]
Yeah :Dguilty [:-]shot 5, at 100 Yards last night. Farthest pin is 55 so had to use some Kentucky windage. The first one fell 10 yards short! 2&3 were low hits 4&5 over his back! (deer target). Only lost 1 arrow #3 deflected of the front inside of the leg..Haven't found that one yet! Anyway...Ordered some goodies and gonna hopefully get them tonight, if the UPSMan comes through! I bought an Apple Arrow saw and an Arizona EZ fletcher. Hope to make up some new ones tonight. I gotta quit tinkering..Monday I took the Muzzy 0 effect off because I wasn't comfortable with...I have no idea, what I wasn't comfortable with..just too much idle time. So i had to get it all fine tuned again! Which it is. I shot the G5 striker Broadhead and was impressed..But it broke easily,so I got worried. So I bought the Muzzy MX-3's always loved the MX-4 but the strikers hit ever so slightly better so I wanted to try the MX-3's..These will be on my arrows this year! Anyway enough random babbling for now.. 3 nights and a wake-up! |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
