RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
That's encouraging Mark. Hang in there guys, the seeking phase should be hitting everywhere within the next 2 weeks. A good time to use a drag or put some scent out.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I hunted yesterday afternoon. It wasn't a good afternoon for me.Better than being at my office though! I only have two or three more times on stand before I head out west next week.I havn't even started to pack so I am getting a bit anxious about that.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Have fun scot. I have deer camp in 2 weeks with my company. Looking forward to that as well.Last year I got 2 that weekend, we'll see what this one will bring.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Mike,
Tell me about Deer Camp.Company sponsored?Company owned? Where does it take place? I would really like to hear about the particulars! |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Well I'm off to shoot the BIG ONE!!... Let You know what i see later on tonight!! If i dont get blown out of the tree...
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Spike, BIG Nobbie, Two Fawns and a Fresh Scrape.. Thats what I saw tonight.. oh and One Gray Squirrel...
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
it's starting to pick up here by me too. But the weather won't cooperate for me. i need a sw wind, or at least west or south. All I get is N or NW. it needs to be colder and less windy than tonight too.
The bigger button I see is getting pretty big too. It's not nearly as big as mamma though. Mamma is a beast. I can't shoot it though; it has already been shot and the meat probably wont be good until next year with the infection and all. does anyone have any new trail cam pics? |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
A fresh scrape is a good sign.
Badger I don't have any new trail cam pics, wish I did. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Brad,
Only 1 squirrel? They must be in hiding. Around here I've been averaging about 15 squirrels per hunt. lol I'm excited about this Sat and then Wed-Sat next week I'm taking time off to recoup from a rough month at work and also to do some serious hunting. It's not supposed to get above 60 any of those days and the lows in the 30's. The weather here is cooperating finally. just need the high winds to stay away that seem to come every time I step foot into the woods. My game plan is to do a drag rope into my area and set-up 3 containers around me and hope for the best. do a little calling. Maybe a rattle bag move or 2 and keep my butt in the tree all day long. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
That's awesome Dave, nothing like having several days in a row to hunt. Time to fling the quiet arrow!
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Ireally hope so. I've seen a lot of sign it's just a matter of the deer getting more active during the day.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I just received confirmation today that I will be able to bowhunt for a buck on the lease in late season which is basically the 2nd half of Dec. Nov is out of the picture with gun season. By late Dec, things should be settled down enough to go back in with a bow. The good thing is...food will be a lot more scarce and our food plot should be doing well by then.So it may be a 4th qtr, 2-minute drill for me to geta buck. Hopefully it will all come together and I'll get one. With God's help I will.
In the mean time, fill up the score board guys! |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
the bucks are chasing! My dad rattled in (i think it was just a coincidence) a doe, it's fawn, and the nick buck following it. It was a really nice 8 or 9 pointer. He didn't get a shot though. Man, I'm pumped! I'm going out tomarrow morning, but I have to go to the soccer game (state) at 2:00.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Saw three bucks tonight.. BIG 6, HUGE Forks with browtins, a REAL nice 8, Shooter for me, and a small 8.. Only shot was at the small 8... Next time..The big one hopefully...

Nothing like hunting in snow!
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Here is a good article on hunting the different phases of the moon. I also thought the paragraph to the right about scrapes was helpful.

|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I'm still learning but I would think the first high pressure day after the snow should bring out a lot of deer.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I've shot two of my BEST bucks on days like that FUNHUNT!!
By the way, That 8 I saw the other night, I Got a Picture of him the SAME EVENING, at 4:49 p.m. at my other stand.. Should of been there instead.. LOL... ohwell, maybe tonight.... |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
That's cool Brad, makes sense.Good to know that big eight is still in your area and at your stand, that's awesome. I hope you get him!!!
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
today at 9:30 I saw a nice buck
It think it came to my grunting but it circled wide downwind. It may have smelled me, but i'm not concerned. It just continued on. A decoy would have worked I think. I should try some type of buck urine or tarsal scents though. I used tinks 69 the other day to no avail. Any suggestions? I bet that Thermacell would make some money if they made deer scent wafer things. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I saw my trusty ole spike again.. one button buck, two grouse and two grays.. REALLY Quiet in the woods.. I have come to the conclusion I will NEVER shoot a BIG BUCK over bait... VERY HARD TO DO..

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
this mornin I walked in and there was some deer eatin my apples. Well it runs a little bit when I walk in. So I was there, wondering what to do. So I had this great idea. I just started walking normally (louder and faster) walked up to the bait pile and dumped more apples. Then I walked halfway back out the trail. I snuck back in and into my treestand, and the apples I kept throwing to make it seem like i was walking away sealed the deal. I sat down and ten seconds later the deer came up and started eating. I dont know if it was a doe, fawn, or a spike; it was before light.
Are spike bucks the fawns from this year? I saw one, it looked just like the button fawns with the same body and face shape and size, but it had little 3" spikes. It's hard to believe they are a year apart, but I don't think that it could've grow the spikes in the last few weeks. Well there are at least five defferent bucks that have walked through at least. They're moving but I don't think they are sticking around. Action is not nearly as hot this year as it was last year. I think last year's full moon on the 5th kicked it up a notch. And because i'm sort of bored/procrastinating: Nice 8 ![]() ![]() ![]() Nice 9 pointer: ![]() A buck, ? ![]() Little 9 ![]() lil 7 or 8 ![]() A fork ![]() And there's at least 2 button bucks (one may have been shot) and a spike. I saw one nice buck yesterday and my dad saw one on Thursday from my stand. Wind should be good tonight but tomarrow it might rain a little and there will be 30mph winds. I don't think much will be moving. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Jarrod,
You can try the buck lure instead of the doe in heat and see how that helps. Also, you can try a grunt call and/or rattle bag. I've had a buck come around a field about 200 yds out to a little rattling. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
That was smart the way you did that. I hope you get one of those.
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Hey guys...no deer yet here.
i seen some doe's again this weekend....1 spike horn yesterday, and 2 grouse. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I think this cold front up north will kick the rut in for you guys. I bet we get a couple of bucks for our team in the next week or 2.
Who do you guys think will score first on our team? I think it will be Brad. Votes? |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I hope your right.. I had a small 8 in tonight.. Not a shooter though..
|
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
In 2 days my rut hunting starts. My buddy just got a 9 pt and said the deer are chasing the doe around here in Maryland.
Good luck to everyone. The fun time is here. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
where I hunt I knew I could do that because deer are so used to people in the area. Generally if you jump them they trot off maybe 20 yards and just watch you and return right after you leave
yea hopefully it'll heat up a little. It has been a little slow. I didn't hunt todaybecause of the wind, and now I have school so I'm done until the weekend. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
I want to wish all of you good luck for the remainder of your seasons!! I am headed to Idaho tomorrow and will be Rifle hunting for 10 days.It is beautiful country and I really enjoy covering ground with a rifle in my hands.Needless to say I am looking forward to it!
It is not likely that I will archery hunt again at home when I return,it is possible and part of me wants to archery hunt during rifle season,we will see. My archery season has been poor,I have seen 5 bucks while on stand with only one of them meeting the management unit's antler criteria but not my own.It was a 1.5 year old 5 pointer.I probably have about 40 hours of stand time in.Unfortunately in speaking with friends that bow hunt their experience has been similar. The person that I do most of my bow hunting with (stands typically set a 1/4 mile apart)didn't see a buck while on stand,he shot two doe's.Another close friend who consistently kills better than average bucks hasn't shot any thing,he heads out west with me tomorrow. We miss the best archery hunting here because of the timing of our trip this year, but even still there is no year in recent memory where I have seen so few bucks with them being so young. Again Good Luck to you all! I hope you all have great experiences in the woods! |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Scot,
Good luck on your rifle hunt. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable time. So far this year has been disappointing to me. I'm hoping the rest of this week is a turn around. I'm taking tomorrow thru Friday off and besides duck hunting Saturday and travel time to the Eastern Shore Friday I will be in a tree the rest of the time. I'm going to hunt a stand site that during pre-season showed a lot of sign. It's near a swamp and there was a lot of sign before season. In the afternoon I'm heading to the oak stands and hope the doe pull me in a buck. Thursday I'm torn between going to a friend's property on the Eastern Shore that shot a nice 9 yesterday or continue to persue the bucks on the area that I've been hunting. I'm just hoping my back stops bothering me. I didn't hunt Saturday because of the trouble i had getting out of the tree the weekend before. |
RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread
Well guys, Getting belted with snow as I typpe.. Planned on heading out this moring, day of work, but The deer I'm sure are bedded down right now, waiting for a let up in the storm.. Hopefully this afternoon it will ease up and they'll move..
