I hunted this afternoon.I have been trying to take one afternoon during the week to get out.It was windy, lightly raining and about 70 degree's.While on stand I didn't see any thing. The conditions were terrible but you can't kill any thing if you are not out there.I got back to my truck at about 7:00,I was parked in the woods about 100 yards,on an old logging road.As I was driving out maybe 50 yards from where I was parked a honker of a buck crossed in front of my truck.Big clean 8 pointer.Good to know he is in the area, now hopefully I will see him when it matters!

Hey fellas, went out hunting this afternoon had to work so i didnt get out there till about 5 oclock. On my way in i spooked 6 doe[:@] i figured they would of been moving with the cold front that came thru yesterday, we had light snow on and off today and temps in the 30's perfect weather for deer movement.

Got to my stand and didnt see nothing till about an hour into my hunt, then 2 does came out into the field about 100 yrds from me behind me. i watched them feed for about a half hour, after scanning the woods in front of me for a couple mins i turned around to see if they were still there, and noticed a 3rd deer out there a little ways away, put the bino's up to check as it was getting kinda dark and wouldnt ya know it was a dandy 8 point, nice and wide too. so then im like well what to do, by the time he makes his way towards me, and if he does it might too dark. Well then this doe decides she going to go over there and check him out, he didnt want none of that so he chases her back into the thicket off the field edge, then shortly after the other doe follows. i waited about 10 min thinking he may come back out, but nada. so then i tried a little rattling and a few grunts and nothing, as i was taking my arrow off the rest and putting in my quiver i looked back out there and here comes them 2 does running down the field towards me like he was on there tail they cut in just before my stand, but he wasnt in toe. i had a good wind so he didnt smell me, i think he will be back ,and now i know where one of his bedrooms is.[8D]

Mark,

Sounds like you had an exciting hunt. I bet your blood was pumping and the adrenaline flowing. Hope that continues and that buck gets closer.

Brad,

Sorry to hear that you are sick. Take car of yourself andI hope you get better soon.

It's been raining nonstop here since yesterday and it's supposed to continue tomorrow. Tomorrow is my day off and I hope the rain stops tonight but it looks like it's supposed to continue for a few days. i don't mind hunting in a light rain. however, i get a little leery about trying to track game if it rains hard enough to wash away the blood before i get a chance to start tracking.

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Brad, I just prayed for you. Get well man. This Friday should be good with the cooler weather.

Mark, you're getting closer. Every hunt you post it sound more and more like the rut is breaking out, awesome. Nothing like it.

Dave, what's the latest on your area? Seeing any good sign? Did you ever go back where you jumped up that buck?

As far as for me Muzz starts this weekend and then gun follow shortly after so I'm probably not going to be able to get back out with a bow until late season - Dec. That's okay, where I'm hunting now I've seen more bucks in Dec after the orange army leaves than any other time. By the way I'm part of that this year. My company has a deer camp the opening weekend of gun and I'm working the check-in station so I may try to get a couple of does while I'm there. I'd like to bring my bow but there will be too many bullets flying around so if I stuck one its just too dangerous to track so I'll just be using a rifle for that.

Be safe everyone!

mike,

I went back there last week and it looked like cattle trails running all over the place and a few scrapes but no deer whileI was there.I have to wait until after the 27th to get back in there. When I do I'll be armed with buck lure and doe lure and my calls and ratlting bag.

I was off of work today but came in due to heavy rains here in MD. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon though. The weather has dropped into the 50's here and today would ahve been a good day to be out.

I don't mind sitting in the rain. I bought good equipment for that. However, I lost a deer a long time ago due to rain and the blood trail washing away and ever since then i try not to hunt in sustained rain.

It stopped raining here at 10AM or so yesterday. So, I loaded up the truck and was off. Found a nice place in a new area with 3 new scrapes in a line and set-up camp. All I saw was about 200 squirrels and 9 turkey. Too bad it isn't turkey season here in MD.

Here's a question for everyone. My GPS gives me the best times of the day for hunting. The interesting thing is that the turkeys came through during this 4 hour window midday. How many of you follow this and/or believe in it? I'm thinking midday is considered the best due to the full moon. All the animals are out foraging during the full moon and go to sleep for a few hours and wake-up during mid day high sun.

fun2hunt 10-28-2007 06:29 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I've read a lot of stories where big bucks where taken at mid-day when there is a full moon.

tsoc 10-28-2007 11:03 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

The best times theories have a lot to do with over head and under foot moons.I do believe that there is validity to them.I tend to believe movement is more effected by the combination of a number of factors.Give me a best time's period with a cold front coming on.

tsoc 10-28-2007 11:09 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Oh yeah I hunted this morning.I saw 7 or 8 deer,of which 1 was a 5 pointer and another was a button buck.If you guys don't do it already you should (wearing rubber gloves) cut the tarsal glands off any deer you shoot,or take them from a buddy if they don't want them.I vacumed sealed the glands from a buck I shot last year and a doe I shot last year and froze them.I thawed them out yesterday and used one of each gender as a drag this morning. The 5 pointer was within 20 yards for at least a half hour. The doe's hung around unusually long periods of time.
I intend to take the bladder out of kills and use the glands and urine from the same deer.I will freshen the tarsal gland drags with the same deers urine.I can't help but think it will be the best attractant going.
Headed back out shortly after a quick shower.

Scot,

You have to take one of these bucks you keep seeing.

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I think he can pass a 5 pointer and a button buck fawn.

davepjr71 10-28-2007 06:49 PM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I got Scot confused with another aquantance that passed on a 6 pt and his brother shot it the next day out of his stand. lol

However, If that 5 is the only buck he sees the rest of the year he won't feel that way. Any buck is a trophy.

The rut should be kicking in near the end of this week fellas. Nov 3-5 is supposed to be prime time. Good luck this week to anyone that gets out.

fun2hunt 10-29-2007 05:39 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

That's cool Scott, the little guys always show up first. Dave don't worry man, its almost prime time for the bigger bucks. Quiet Arrow will be on the board soon.

tsoc 10-29-2007 07:49 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I don't disagree that any buck or deer taken with a bow is a trophy.I will not shoot a buck though unless it is an eight pointer or better, the exception to that would be an older buck that has character considerations ie. wide and heavy but no brow tines. One side looks great the other side is funky.
I am headed out to Idaho next week to hunt (Rifle) so I have four or five at best more sit's before I head out there.

I concur. It was magical last year. I have the 5th off school, and if hunting is good i will skip Tuesday (If mom lets me).

Tomarrow I want to go dove hunting. It's already closing day. Its a shame; I never got out much.

Edit: I'm sick of doing my english project, which won't get done because the packer game in on and I keep wasting time on HNI. If that's even that this is, what's the I stand for? Is it just HN? (huntingNet)

Sounds like good weather for you dave. Ours is going to cool down too.

Well i went hunting this evening and i had plenty of action seen 2 bucks and 8 does...one of the bucks was a 4 point and the other looked like a smaller 8 point...a few of the doe came thru my pinch point at 12 yards
but the bucks unfortunately skirted the edge about 50 yards away following each other. apples were on there mind not the girls this evening. one of these hunts one should make a mistake and come thru there. all in all it was a good hunt, whats a guy to do but keep trying. i think the chasing should start here soon.

good luck guys!!
