I'm suprised with all your techno-geek prowess that you don't have a live Germ-cam feed
going during your hunts.;) That way we wouldn't miss a minute.

Good job on the recovery Jeff !

Only thing I got this morning was stomped at. [:@] Amazing how they can be right there and not see em. I looked all around before I decided to get out of my tree and didn't see a thing. I un-nocked my arrow and was putting back in the quiver when out of nowhere I hear some stomping. I look to my right and there she is trying to figure out what moved in that tree. She stomped a few more times. Came a bit closer. Couple more stomps. Then resumed eating and slowly walked off. The fawn looked for a little while after and then turned and went with momma. Guess I better stay out of that tree for a bit.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

This working late sucks. At least today is the last one this week.Altho it is too hot to hunt anyway if I did get off early, it is supposed to be around 90* or above till the middle of next week. I hate hunting in the heat, all sweated up by the time I am in the stand.[:'(]I may hunt the mornings this weekend, before it gets too bad. Not sure about the afternoons.

I gotta get over to IL sometime this weekend, and check things out there. The guy who rents the house on the farm I hunt runs a small archery shop. I heard he had 3D tourney on the farm this weekend. If he had people wandering around in the woods I hunt, I may be hunting him![:@]I sure hope he had it in the fields and not the woods. Those deer will be long gone if a mob was in their woods. Me and this guy do not get along too good. When he first moved on the farm, he asked me where I hunted so he could stay away. So I told him where I put my stands. Next year he had stands 50 - 75 yards from mine. I rarely talk to him anymore. I sure don't tell him where I hunt anymore.

Rob, I know what you mean. For not haveing the latest camo design those deer do a pretty darn good job of being invisible. Specially if they don't move. Ever see one standing in the woods and look away and not be able to find it again untill it moves.

LebeauHunter 09-19-2007 07:49 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Rob and John, I like when they appear out of nowhere. Which is often!
Although I prefer to hear or catch some early movement, it is cool to just be kind of drifting off
and bam, there's a deer 25 yards in front of you. Get's your heart going.

Troy, how's the Elk hunt with Hiawatha? Any luck?

GMMAT, you taking a couple off?

Kenny, is you're account working now?

Germ, I'll be waiting on those "In the Tree" segments. Hopefully, they involve whitetails. :D

Tyler, hope you got rid of the trespassers.

Hunt'm Up and Huntinglady, anything new?

This weekend I'm going do some 3-D shooting (not competitive), gonna work with my rangefinder
and make sure everything is just right.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I had one run across our private drive about 20 yds ahead of me and stop about five yds in the woods. Saw right where she went in and it was all I could do to find her standing there.

Good job on the recovery Jeff !
Thanks.....it EXHAUSTED me.

Yeah, JM.....I just need a couple of days to not be in the woods. Funny....isn't it? I just feel really good, right now....and I don't miss it, immediately. I KNOW I am already looking forward to going back in re-charged, on Saturday. Nowhere to be.....I have the entire day to get everything "just right"......just a great feeeling of something to look forward to. To be honest.....events this week mentally and physically drained me. I'm saddling back up, though;).

Troy????? I need my fix! What's going on????

Germ....Sorry I didn't call you. I will, today. I took my family out to dinner last night....and it was wonderful;). Sorry I missed you.....but good luck and be safe.

To the rest of the team......keep the stories coming.:)

This weekend is gonna suck. It is supposed to be 90* both days. I might just hunt the mornings. I do have one stand down in a valley by the creek. That might be cool enough to hunt without sweating up the woods. Maybe they will miss the forecast. It sure wouldn't be the first time they were wrong.:D

Hey captain, is it this hot down in KY too?

After the great temps last weekend, I am almost not looking forward to hunting this weekend. But I am going out to battle the heat and the mosquitoes. I have been seeing deer in the neighborhood coming home after work, so they are moving. I just need to pick the right spot to sit. Gonna check the weather later and see what the wind is supposed to do and go from there.

Good luck to the rest of you guys hunting this weekend too. I know it is early, but it would be nice to get on the board with a buck.:)

I might give our Captain a call tonight after hunting hours and see how things are going in KY.

WHERE'S THE "IN THE TREE" WITH GERM SEGMENTS?

We also need updates from Troy on his Elk hunt and I keep waiting on Huntm'Up to post something.

It's quiet out there.

Horses are unpredictable = I lost $$$, Tigers are beating the Visor-head and got my bh's flying good.

Yeah its way to quiet. Yeah Im ready to see some in tree segements.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I talked to Capt. Germ today. It had been kinda quiet for them down there. Then this morning at 8:20, he had a group of 6 bucks move thru. He could have shot a 120ish buck, but there was a 150 caliber buck that he wanted, but no shot on him. He is hunting that spot the next couple of days.

I hunted this morning and didn't see a deer for the 2nd time this season. Didn't hunt this afternoon, had too much stuff to do and it was almost 90*. Too dang HOT!!!.

flstnhd 09-22-2007 06:37 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Hey guys...just got home from seeing the Captain and a few others at Higginson-Henry WMA. I got the same story as JM;) Hopefully he'll get him ! Been busy here doing other stuff too (and it's 90+ ) so I won't be out til Monday morning. A front is supposed to come through Tuesday to cool it down a bit here.

GMMAT 09-22-2007 07:04 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

High temps are killing my deer sightings......and me sweating is buggering up my good spots. So.....I'm hunting the fringes....and my sightings are reflecting it. I saw none, this morning....in my BEST spot. This afternoon I got set up on a fringe....JUST to see where the deer where entering a pasture....and where they were exiting. Saw 5 in there.....but couldn't see how they entered or exited. It should be easier to pinpoint them when it does get cooler, though....without leaving too much scent behind.

I am ready for a cool down.

jmbuckhunter 09-23-2007 04:10 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I hate these HOT TEMPS!! Hunted both mornings this weekend and didn't see a deer. Skipped the afternoon hunts. Had too much to do yesterday and at 5:00 tonight it is still 90* here. I am not gonna go out and sweat up the woods this early in the season. I would love to be hunting right now, but there will be plenty of time to be in the woods with better temps. A big storm is supposed to blow thru here on Monday and Tuesday and cool things off. I SURE HOPE SO!!

Gonna take off work Oct. 1 to hunt opening day in IL. That is where my best hunting is.

THe heat sucks, but i am 10 pouds lighter.

flstnhd Great to meet you and your wife!!!

I had my chance, I put myself in front of a bachelor group of 6 bucks. 1 140-150'' 10, 2 120'' 10, and 3 smaller bucks. I had them within 15 yds and could not get a shot on the big 10, I could not find my stand set I set up in March. My glow dot must have fell off. I set up in another tree and had limted lanes to shoot. From my stand I set up I would have had a better shot. Being I was sweating like a pig once they got behind me the big one got spooked. They other 2 shooters were where i could shoot, but to be honestI was focused on the big 10.

That property is great. 15'' AR and bowhunting only.

Gary, Sounds like it was a great hunt besides the heat. At least you got up close and personal with a nice buck. I have seen one 6 pointbuck for sure and a couple deerI could not positively identify. I sure hope this weather changes soon! It is toooooo hot for hunting.

Ky has more bugs that bite in places that should not be bit!!!!

These "nosee" nats ate my hands to death[:@] The dry dust is everywhere, it got into my lonewolf climber and I had to clean it[>:]

Since I have never hunted this early I learned a few things. Do not go deep in the woods. The deer are close to where they are going to feed. My first two hunts I saw zip, because I was walking to far in. TFOX set me straight, and he is 100% correct. The deer are on the outside of this place and moving in. Next time I will know how to walk in to a spot.

Well remember when I went and setup those stand in NW Mi for my best friend.

Both kids scored out of the stands I set. I set 5 stands and the two I told him would be great produce two bucks.

Jake shot nice 8 pointwith his bow.
Sam shot 6 point out of the Gorilla:Dwith his 20 gauge.

Pictures are coming, and yes I am that damn good[8D]

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

checking in guys..

Hia headed out yesterday with no elk tag filled. I am not very happy.

We hunted are butts off for 4.5 days.

Evening 1- Called in a 2x2 bull 70 yards downwind..Hia wasnt interested in him. We move on, set up and call.. nothing else till dark..

Morning 1 (wed)- Daylight, Hiked up onto a big ridge.. cow called got 3 bulls fired up right away. One committed and came in hard to 60-80 yards.. in the brush.. hung tight and bugled like a beast until the wind changed..busted..out....later that morning after relocating..we worked on a huge herd bull on private property below. We couldnt move him but he screamed at us all morning. One satellite came up the mountain at us until he got downwind and shut up.

Evening 2- Hia had a cow and two calfs walk under his stand, he passed. The big bulls popped out below my whitetail stand and I bailed out of the stand and put the sneak on the biggest. A 300 plus inch bull 6x6..He wouldnt come to a cow call because he had at least a dozen cows but he held his ground and let me move to him while cow talking. He was demolishing a tamarack sapling. I snuck to 20 yards in head high brush cow calling. Found the ONLY shooting lain I could behind a big tall stump, peaked up over it at full draw and had him broadside. He looked at me and froze.. A christmas tree like sapling saved his life. It was pefectly positioned infront of his vital area. The standstill lasted about 30 seconds, I knelt back down to try to slide over a few feet and he moved behind the tree he had been raking and faced me...I stood up full draw...I thought about the straight on shot since the tree was pretty much clean of limbs from his thrashing..I just couldnt pull the trigger at that angle..He lasted about 20 seconds at that angle then whirled and went down the mountains.. Biggest archery bull of my life.. No shot.. It sucked!

The elk moved downt he mountain between Hia and I...

Morning 2. (thurs)Three bulls fired up at daylight.. we move in on what we feel is the herd bull and out steps a nice 5x5 ...he came in silent.. BUSTED.. CHIT.. so we move around the ridge and set up on the herd bull, big 5x6 or 6x6.. elk are bugling and screaming..hia head straight at the herd bull cow calling his way in as I stay back and talk up a storm.. Little rag horn bull comes right at hia and BUSTS him.. CHIT@!!!!! Big bull hangs for about 4-5 more minutes then gathers his cows and halls arse out...

Evening 2. Back to the stands... nothing but whitetails..

Morning 3. (friday) We head to the high country.. bad news as soon as I pull up to my spot,I can see where some jack ass on a quad has ridden down the POSTED road. Posted no vehicles... We head in anyway.. We get to my normally great spots and nothing answers..so we trudge on..temps about 35-37... HVY HVY fog...we hike for a couple miles.. Then we finally light up a big bull but hes across the canyon.. A huge canyon..to big to traverse for now but an option if we dont get anything else to answer.. we move on... stop and call off of a big point.. NOTHING>>>>> NOTHING>>finally i get real aggressive with the cow calling and hia too..then I let out a challenge bugle and the big boy down in the bottom wakes up... Big ole bellar of a bugle.. then a little bull up on a ridge (Ryan where your bull was) squeals... thick fog, we can glass nothing or see nothing but 50 yards in front of our face.. Hia gets set up on the littler soundingbull.. hoping we can call him down.. Both the little bull and the beast in the bottom sound off again but have moved away! CHIT ..they want nothing to do with coming in...they most likely both had cows.. Hike out 3-4 miles... go home.. flipping beat and frustrated..

Evening 3 ... We hike up into a spot I felt there would be elk bedded.. We hike in too close without calling first (MY FAULT< I KNEW BETTER) bust up two spikes.. we get them to come down wind and check us and hang in there..we do everything on Gods green earth to get these two young bulls to give us a shot.. they won't. Its about dark and I see the two again down the mountain. Hia had gotten seperated from me and was set up above me now cow talking. I bail off the ridge cow calling and then chuckling the bulls stop and stare..its getting close to dark..THEY WONT talk just watch.... I get to a small patch of timber and get set up and call... They stand broadside at about 60... yards.. I decide, I get two elk tags I am gonna kill one for the freezer if I get a chance....I call and the apple tree about 60 yards but off at a 45 degree angle shakes madly and out pops a big ole black bear racing at me.. Huffing and puffing and smacking its teeth..I say ok you ole beach...you want some ...I look at her and let a big ole bugle like a big bull and she turns tail and runs... I then throw my bow on top of my head and sway out in the open...low light ...walking right at those bulls.. I wanted to see how dumb they were..I get to 50 yards.. go to full draw and they jog off... End of the evening.. I holler at HIA.. hey bud..theres a bear coming your way! :D

Sat Morning... We hike at least 10 miles.. get on 3 different bulls have the giant herd bull screaming all morning but cant approach him due to the property lines! [:@]He actually moved his herd our way.. ALL we did is cow talked..no bugles..

We get on a really good bull we spot 2 miles away that bugling at us...we go to him and get set up within 200 yards... get in his grill and he wont have anything to do with us..just bails and shuts up..

Sat Evening...back to try the elky stands... NOTHING>>> not to elkly that evening.. chit..

Sunday morning last chance.. we go to were hia had snuck in pretty close to the herd bull a few days back.. ANY elk will die..if it shows itself... NOTHING we had 2 hours to hunt is all ..hia has to get on the road by 8 am.. Hes off ... I feel terrible for him.. he didnt get a shot at a big bull.. Honestly I am really pissed right now.. I'll get over it.. I dont like to let guys down.. No excuses here... we just didnt get it done..

Hia says I take my hunting too seriously.. maybe he's right.. Maybe I need to chill..

Hia is a great guy, one of my best friends..always will be, I really hate that I let him down..we hunted very hard and as smart as we possibly could..He told me he really loved what he got to experience out here with all the calling and action...I believe him..but know he drove home feeling a little empty handed.. it aint cheap driving down here..buying those tags..etc..

talk to you later tonight guys, I am going whitetail hunting....I want tokill something..
