Well, it looks like I picked the wrong spot to hunt this morning. Didn't see a single deer. But it felt great to be in the stand again. Everything seemed right, nice and cool 45*, owls hooting, got set up real quiet, just no deer. The coyotes did chime in when the fire truck left the station with the sirenes going shortly before dawn. Don't know if that spooked the deer or not. But it spooked me a tad.:) Glad I was already in my tree, they were close.

Mobowhuntr is gonna join me for the afternoon hunt today. The wind is gonna be bad for the area he wants to hunt close to home. We might sit in my blind and see what come out to the bean field. And bring the video camera along.

I came down at 10:15. Gonna head back in about 3:00. No sightings, this morning. I need for the deer to get back on the acorns. These beans are killing me. They're skirting me getting to them.

Buckeye we are going to go over the aerial maps, you should see some of the bucks this guy has shot over the years.

I am talking 170+, I was near Findley on a hwy 330 off US23.

A hunting coop, isn't that cute. :D One day I expect to be browsing around BPS and
I'll see a video for Rob's Farm, with Germ on the cover in Gen 4 Enigma, with a sticker on it
that says, "New bonus spooning footage."

Seriously though, sounds cool guys.

I recently saw some neighborhood plan that is centered around hunting. It has huge lots, a
game preserve, and I think it is in S. or N. Carolina. It's not for me (for many reasons like
distance and $$$), but it looked like a cool idea anyway.

Haven't heard from Troy and John tonight, I keep checking for a kill!

I also keep thinking HuntmUp is gonna come out of nowhere with some crazy kill.

Well my evening hunt was almost over before it started. I was walking in to where I was going to setup. I have to walk by an overgrown ditch about halfway there. All of a sudden 2 does bust out of there 20 yards in fron of me. I won't be getting them tonight. So I go set up in the corner of the field to wait for the deer to come out of the CRP ground. I had been settled about 1/2 hour, when I here someone talking. Then a bowhunter(trespasser) comes walking down the trail my deer are supposed to come out on. He gets about 4 steps into the bean field and sees my blind. Turns around and says Dennis there is someone here already. I ask them if they have permission to hunt there. He says a name I don't recognize gave them permission and proceeds to walk right thru the middle of the CRP which is the bedding area. As they are walking away I see 2 more does and a fawn running out of the bedding area.

Later I called the landowner and he said the name they told me owns the ground 2 farms over and they did not have permission to hunt his prop. And noone is allowed to hunt the ground they were crossing. I have to call to get permission to track one if it goes there.

Then when it was getting pretty dark this 6 pointer came out behind me about 40 yards. Not the best pic it was pretty dark for the zoom.Three weeks ago he was hanging out with a nice 130" or so 10 pointer. He just fed across the field, so I waited till he was out of site till I left. Didn't see his big buddy tho.



See what happens tomorrow. Gonna try some new spots.

Morning update:

I saw 3 does and 4 fawns around7:00this morning. I was set up to intercept them on their way to their bedding area. My stand is in a group of pin oaks that are raining acorns. So I have 2 things going for this setup. But they just started building a house 75 yards from my stand. The deer were headed to the corner of the fence they have to go around to get to their bedding cover. When they gotdownwind ofthe new foundation for the house they got real skittish. One doe started running around like someone lit her tail on fire. The others would come my way a little, stop and smell the air, then back up. The wind was from them to me. They wanted to go past me but every time they would get close one of them would spook and the whole group would prance off. They did this about 4 or 5 times. At one point they were 22 yards away but I had no clear shot. Then they finally went off the other direction. They just weren't used to that new dirt and the foundation.

On the way out I passed3 scrapes under licking branches on a trail. And I found these rubswhere I have another setup. I think I will give it a try there tonight. The trails show a lot of fresh use in the area. Gonna set a camera up here too.

Not so great of an opening weekend here in southern indiana. Had trespasses ruin the hunt Sat. morning.. NOT HAPPY!!! Had one doe come in but to far for a shot... Still have this evening for a hopefull downer opening weekend!

No BBD for me tonight. I saw 2 deer walk thru some thick stuff across the creek from my stand. All I could see was legs and a tail twitch now and then, don't know what they were. No shots this weekend but lots of sightings. I am getting them narrowed down in a couple of spots I think. I pretty much use the first few times in the woods for scouting in my neighborhood. It is hard to scout from the outside, the woods is so thick. And I don't want to walk all around init right before the season. I really thought this morning was going to be my best shot. I did see 7 deer, but the foundation they just put in for a new house had them spooked. They just would not walk past it. They wanted to, but backed off every time.

I set up a camera on a creek crossing in the area I found the rubs in. Gonna see if if I can catch the one(s) that are making them.

The creeks I hunt around, I can jump across most of the time. Hell it is so dry here now some places don't have any water.

Hahaha..sound good, I finally have a wind tonight to go hunt the 4x5...it will be the second time this season getting to hunt him. I am looking forward to it.

Team Chaos... Dang sounds like you guys had a busy weekend. John you especially. Sorry to hear about the tress passers..you and Tyler both... that stinks! John I know what you mean by using your first hunts to scout and move in closer.. its a process of elimination and changing with the deer's changing patterns.

I only got to hunt 1 time this weekend. I helped my contractors about 12 hours both Sat and Sunday finish my pole barn. I didnt want that hanging over my head when Hiawatha comes tomorrow for elk hunting. It turned out really nice.

Ok ...I am back after it again this evening ...SW wind so I am heading to the 4x5 bucks home..I have only hunted him once from a certain stand (opening day) and then saw him two days later from a distant stand.. I havent been back in there since..cant wait to see whatsmoving through that saddle this evening ...hopefully him or another good buck..

Rob and Tyler, keep after it... Jeff I hope all is well...


Gary sounds like your hunting areas in OHIO and KY are loaded with good deer... I cant wait till your in da woods!

Hiawatha drove all night from Manitoba to my home near Harrison Idaho.. Hes at my place right now getting some sleep while I finish up work here today. We will be hunting elk this evening and for the next 5 days...
