FF/EMT, Yeah I've been practicing and trimming the left arm to make sure I clear. Good point about trying it from a treestand but I'm not sure I'll use it in a stand yet. I always thought of it asa ground blind thing. Guess I could use it in a tree. HMmmmm. I'll think about that.

I wore some leafy stuff turkey hunting this year and it worked real well on the gobblers. Never have tried it for deer hunting. Another option Talon is to use a compression sleeve, from CamoSkinz. I wear one whenever I have bigger clothes on. It is like a real long glove with no fingers, goes from your thumb to your elbow and fits snug, keeping all your clothes tight to your body. Here is the link to it at the Cabelas site. I also wear the gloves by the same company and love them. They are real thin so you still have great tactile sensitivity.

Hola mi amigos! como estas?
Guys, I have decided to hunt opening day next weekend with my recurve. I'm shooting it well and it is something I've been looking forward to. I've never made a kill with it. I have 2 misses on hogs and no hits. I have not deer hunted with it before. After my misses on the hogs I decided I needed to become more proficient. I feel ready now. From the backyard stand at 18' up I'm shooting 3-4" groups at 15 yds. My favorite stand in the oaks, where I have killed 3 deer, always gives me shot opportunities from 10 yds and under. We shall see!

TX, hopefully you can get one with the curve. I'm goin gto get a longbow this winter and hopefully get proficient enough to take a deer next year with it. Had the first session of camera school last night. There is WAY more than I thought that goes into a professional looking hunt. Last night was mostly just book work stuff learning about all the different things that need to be factored in when filming and tonight is all examples of how not to do things. 10 days till the opener!!

I find it interesting that there's actually a class on how to film hunts. Is this through a local college? Good luck with the traditional bows. This is my second season using a recurve exclusively. Last season I only had yearling bucks close to me so no shot. This year I'm taking out does, if they'll come by me.

Actually, it is something that Pat Reeve does, and Mark Wimpy is one of his pro-staffers and lives like 10 miles from me, and I know him well, so he is teaching me and three other guys how to do it properly. So "school" is probably not the right term, but that is what Pat calls his summer session becuase there are usually like 30 guys that do it, pro-staffers and stuff for him. Mark said last night that on average if they get footage of 20 kills, 5-6 may make it to TV because there are so many elements that have to go into it to make sure that it is OK for TV. If all the h unt is great, but the recovery is all bloody and the ongue is hanging out and blood sprayed all over, that's not gonna make it. I never realized the heat these guys get for that kind of stuff, all these things that cameraman and hunter need to do to protect their own asses. I think it is going to be fun though to get in the tree and know how turn out a decent hunt. DEfinitely going to take some practice though and maybe even more muscle to get all that crap up in the tree!

A buddy and I tried a go of it back in the 90's without any advice. We have some good footage for memories but we couldn't produce bucks of the caliber they were starting to take thanks to "Monster Bucks" and it seemed big was better. I'd still like to do production side of things, cause I think I have some neat ideas, but it's a little late (for me)to be trying to get in that game and the industry has become WAY sophisticated beyond a small shop operation. IMO It was fun to do but as little as I can hunt now I'd hate to have to split my time between camera and hunting.
BTW, what happened to the doe contest we had last year? Did we decide it was too much work this year? or did that get axed last year too? I can't remember. The points for does added to team score option.

Very cool Talon, last year my friend and I filmed a coon hunt, came out decent, but this TV stuff is definitely a job. Not sure how far into I will get, but at least I will know how to do it right if I want to film friends/wife.
