Been away camping and quading and dirt biking,Wow what a great weekend up here ,did a little fishing too,spent the longweekend in the bush with 40 other people and had Thanksgiving there. Was awsome and now I winterized the trailer for the winter and parked it . Now I can start hunting ,yahoo. Sorry for not talking ,I normally am not like that. Will stay in touch guys. Thank Goodness, the weather has finally broke. Cooler weather is here. 77 for the high today and 45 tonight. I will be heading out this afternoon looking for that big boy. I set my ground blind up on a spot that has some pretty big tracks and the land owner saw a large buck come through there a couple of mornings ago. I am letting it sit for a week or better then I will hit it up. Good luck everyone.

Finally its below freakin 90 degrees. Its about 60 degrees right now and overcast, and im getting out of work early :DHopefully i will have good news later tonight...

got a heavenly cold front all of a sudden. this morning when i went to school it was 51.3 degrees outside. and right not its mid sixties at the hottest point of the day. so i might get a deer this weekend if i go hunting or fly fishing. and gotta love thanksgiving no matter when it is. the food is so good, whether its fried, baked or what.

I have this on just the bow hunting side, but putting it here in case any of you miss it.

Alright Teammates at about 6:10 I hear something walking in from my left. I assume it is just does because thats all I have seen. As I see him peeking past the brush making sure the coast is clear. I thought it was a year and a half old basket rack. Come to find out he was much older. I counted 5 points on the right side and the left had at least 4 that I could see, but that side was not quite right. Looked as if it was broken in half or just a non-typical. I decided not to shot because his tines were a little spindly and his brow tines and g2 and g3 were only about an inch and a half to 2 inches. Of course after he walked off I began beating myself up for not taking the shot. Oh the heart ache. I feel I did the right thing but he is the first buck even close to a shooter I have seen. Hopefully I will have a chance at a better deer soon

I forgot to mention that his inside spread would have been around 16 or 17 inches.

Wow, that's quite the wait JK...This weather is awesome now...hopefully we are done with the 80's and 90's for the year. Going out a few times this weekend. With any luck, I'll be making a post in the contest thread.

Good Luck in the morning Josh. I was out this evening and I saw a doe as I was walking in. She and I played pick a boo around a couple of trees. At about 6:15 a deer came to the edge of the shooting lane but never came out so not positive what it was. From what I saw of its back it was not the buck from last night. Won't be back out till Sunday night when I am going to check out my ground blind.

i was lucky enough to get a doe this morning. and it only ran 35 yards after a pass through quartering into shot through both lungs and much other stuff. it even stuck into a tree and it exited the body. and left an amazing trail

Good shooting bud,got some meat for the table now you can start to concentrate on the big boys . Anyone start to rattle at all ? If so just tickle them as I find this is the majic week for rattling. The bucks are breaking up from their batchelor groups and are starting to take control of their territories. Can't get out till Monday night,have to go to the mother-in-laws place for her bday tonight. Rather be hugging a tree to be honest.Good luck guys and make sure you where your safety belts. God Bless.

I haven't had much luck lately. I hunted all day Saturday and got blanked. It just stinks that the weather finally gets colder and the wind picks up. The winds were swirling all day which usually makes for some crappy hunting at my farm. Dad did manage to kill a nice doe though so it wasn't a total waste. I should be getting out again Tuesday night but ill keep ya posted. Good luck guys.

Now you got the meat, time to start hunting huh! .I'll be back in the saddle come Monday night finally.I'll be out where my neibour said he heard 2 bulls grunting in his back lot this morning. I need more moose meat as mine is almost depleted from last year. Only got 20 pounds of burger left and 1 roast. Dang kids got families now and need the meat,LMAO. What a providing father huh! LOL j/k.Wait till they get the butchers bill.They'll be surprised. Good luck to those who can hunt today.

Great Night on Stand

Well I had an awsome night on stand,the wind was right,the temp was great,what else could I ask for? Something to give me a shot[:@]. I called in a young bull moose around 6pm only to have him come in down wind of me. Came in to 40 yards but got edgy, as I drew I felt he wasn't going to give the shot I needed. Feelings!!!!!why are their such a thing, he walked away with out ever exposing his vitals for my broadhead.
Then at 7 I had the 1st of 2 yote's come in,[:'(].again no shot and the second one had the perfect winter coat on. Landowner wants me to take any that I can cause thir eating his cats[>:]. It was a fun night to be onstand and I believe the rut for the moose isjust about toend. Maybethe young bull will be around for tomorrow night, I'll be back onstand again and also Wednesday morning. Will miss the night of Wednesday,then it's clear sailing for me to hunt daily. Alright yahoo. Be safe and shoot straight guys .God Bess

I'll be out all weekend but this October weather is supposed to be cooler. Highs in the upper 70's.[:@] I guess it could be worse, but not much.

Truck broke down on the way back from the store just before I was going to head out for the evening to hunt[:@]. I'll get a loaner ,so I can still hunt the am. I'll keep in touch ,hopefully the tab for the repairs isn't to high.Be safe tonight guys and don't forget that safety strap.:).

Well guys i broke the ice, its your turn to follow suit. I killed a small 2.5 yr old 8pnt tonight. Nothing huge by any means but should be good for around 70inches or so. Ill put up pics and a story tommorrow, Im whooped and goin to bed.

Well I can't say much for my morning as I got lost looking for my stand and thought it was felled by the wind as I sat in another 80 yards away. You'd think ,that after 14 years of hunting the same place I would know where my stands are.About9ish I glassed the bushline and vola! ,their's my stand wow!That's the one I intended to sit in,LMAO. That made my day,cause I hate like heck to lose a stand to intruders. Never saw a soul and also got my seat out from my other stand as it broke off from the weld. Now I'll have to get it back in before the rut starts.Hope you guys hunting today have better luck than I did.

Got Out Last

Took a seat that had broke and got it back on for my favorite spot for the rut. I'll leave that for a few weeks yet,had sw wind tonight and barely any at that.Perfect for hunting the 4 corners as I put it,it's where 4seperate properties join and 30 yards in is whereI have had3 encounters with a buck I've been trying to get for the last 3 years.Last years shed swent 217 and the year before went 189, and the year before he was 159. I'm hoping this will be the year.
I rattled at 5:30, 6,and 6:30 and then at6:40 I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I saw some white and it was his tail as he went behind atree and some bush as he edged closer to where the fight he thought was happening.I drew and held for 30 seconds as he stepped out perfect broadside. I looked him over and guessed him at 130 and a 4x4.He had slim body so I let of,I 'm in need of a meat buck and he wouldn't do. He must have hung around walking almost completely around my ;location to see where the deer were that made the noise.
Gotta love that sent-loc. He was actually down wind of me for a few minutes and still never scented me. Was a quiet nite ,but dang those stupid mice and grouse sure sound like deer walking though the dry leaves right now.Only saw the one deer and my partner saw nothing.Back atit tomorrowat another location that I haven't been to yet this season. Need to see what the deer look like their,their was only the 155 ish that I shot over his back last year early in the season. Maybe he's gotten bigger this year and will be trophy status size.Best of luck today guys that are hunting.God Bless

Hey Guys
Got into another honey hole tonight early at 4. I needed to get a platform in cause my seat is still not arrived form Arizona yet. First time I ever stood for 4 hours on stand,gotta admitt, it's tough trying to stay still, I guess I did okay cause I turned after 2 hours of looking where I thought the deer would come from and low and behold there are 3 does eating 40 yards away[:'(].
I was amazed as the wind was blowing to them and I wasn't very slow at turning around,LMAO. Good thing they were grazing facing the other way:D. I ranged them out and the closest one was 47 yards and the furthest was 73. I watched them for 20 minutes hoping a buck would come out and harrass them a bit. Instead as I drew to take the38 yard shot at a doe, out of the bushnot 3 feet away from her, comes a yellow cat.
I almost had to laugh at what just happened ,the 3 does converged on this dang cat and started jumping around ,then chasing it through the bush.I felt like I was at the movies,LMAO. This went on for about another 5 minutes till the does figured it was time to get out to the fields to eat.This was totaly bizzare ,only while on stand would this happen.People ask me do I ever see stange things while a loft in my stand , LMAO.This one will be tough to beat.
Guys hunting Sunday ,good luck and shoot straight, oh yeah I never saw a buck tonight,but I reopened the one great scrape that has been their for the last 4 years. Hopefully I can get back in there later this week and see what will show up. God Bless guys & be safe.

Good Luck with that big boy there. I have seen a spike and a couple of does the last two times out. I heard a loud crash to my right this morning but nothing came from that direction. Better luck next time.

Last Night

Well guys I was on stand by 4pm and never heard a thing till 6:20. Then it was only the deer jumping the barbed wire. So it was time to get up and be alert / At 6:30 I did my last bit of ratteling and then I just relaxed and that's when he snorted cause I put my arms down and hung the antlers and made unnessary movement. So to say the least it, was a boring night and I blew my only chance cause I got lazy. I learn something new every time onstand guys. I'll be out in the am.[:@]

The Am Hunt

Actually it was sorta downer to start off with as I had to rearange my stand in the dark at 6:30 in the morning with no lights,LMAO.At that time I'm all thumbs trying to hang on with out falling with a stand in one hand and hanging on with the other, :D.So much for getting into my stand an hour early as it didn't get light out till 7:40.
The winds picked up at about 9 and I had the perfect wind for this location and I've seen good bucks cruise this ravine alot, They use it as a corrdior to get to thier bedding area. Well I was just about to pack up at 9:30 untill I saw movement across the fence. One doe, one button buck ,another doe and some horn ,but it stopped.They bolted for about 60 yards and their were two more bucks in tow too. They stopped about 70 yards away from me and I got to watch them browse for the next 40 minutes.
I tried calling, and to top it of, I forgot my antlers cause I carried a stand in [:'(]. The other 2 would go in the140's and the good one would hit 160 ish.I then I got down and made a scrape line and headed home at 10. All in all it was a great morning.[:-]Good to see some bucks again and their still bunched of ,I mean the bucks so it should be a bit till they start laying their scrape lines and breaking up. Good luck guys and be safe out their. I'll be back in the saddle Thursday night.[8D]The morning Temp was a balmy 13 c and tomorrow's hig is 5c ,so a cold front coming up from Idaho might get them moving.;)

This is a 1st for me on a team that even the team captain doesn't show up,what's up with that. I'll continue to post ,but it's pretty shabby when no one shows up cept the same 3 guys. Come on #40 ,if were to kick some butts we need team comradrieship. We got a guy with a buck down for over a week and it's still not posted. Sorry guys but that's the way I feel. Whats up guys? I went out Wed. afternoon and saw 7 does throughout the evening. Still no bucks though. I am spending 4 days on my Fairfield property starting on the 9th. Trying to catch a big rutting Buck. Good luck everyone.

Congrats on the weddiing, you must be getting pumped huh! when's the big day? Joshman ,hang in their bud, they should start moving soon.
I got one tonight at 6:45,could just make out antler as he came out to my grunts,I did say I would shoot the 1st one for meat.Well we went back in till 9:30 looking with flash lights and didn't find him. We'll be back out in the am[:o]. I'm hoping we find him before the yote's do llike last year. Arrow stayed in him and I shot him broadside at 20 yards. I watched him bolt for about 30 yards then he turned and came back and jumped the fence 30 yards away.He bolted again and then I heard the crashing of the bush and then silence. Sounded like he broke some good trees while crashing through the bush.
I got in my stand at 4pm and at 4:20 out came 2 doe's. They came in to range and I drew only to see button 's on the top of the one doe,so I let off. They were both last years fawns. Then at 5:30 I turned to look behind me and there were another 3 does and one buck which would go 130. I started to watch them then out stepped an ole nasty buck with a mess for antlers.
Well I moved and the fawn that was bedded down in front of me caughtmy movement,busted I thought.She got up and started for me,she held up just as the big guy started the run on the does. Man he was huge awsome body,had to be in the low 300lbs. Well they all took of and I rattled to no avail as the big guy looked a few times but was more interested in the ladies. He left the field at about 6:30. I heard some grunts coming from behind me so I grunted back softly and right away he was on the move. I had just enough time to pick my bow up draw as he entered the field and shoot. I saw a big body and that is why I shot and I noticed antler too. So I'm not sure if he's big with a good set of antlers or not.
Guys if ya have it in ya,say a prayer that the yote's don't find him before we do in the am. Oh yeah we did find blood at the fenceline where he jumped it, but that was it. Hopefully we get no rain over night and all will be good in the am. I'll let you know in the afternoon as I need to be at church in the am. .
