I don't feel like much of a "stud", today.....Gary.....but I don't regret shooting the deer. I'll have a little piece of him, forever (hide). I really couldn't believe how small he was when I got down to him. Ihad nothing to use for reference.....and I'll be honest.....I had a bad case of "hide fever".

SB thats awesome man! dont feel bad. thats an awesome trophy no matter what the size. 30lbs or 230lbs...theres a VERY good chance that deer would never made it to see next season when he had some antlers. i hate to say it but i would taken it in a heartbeat. even if i knew it was a button buck. i hunt land thats hunted hard and if hunters didnt get him yotes or a car would have. or poachers see him at night and shoot him. i wouldnt feel bad at all..even if i knew it was a button. that will make an awesome hide to tack on the wall. congrats!
i went out this morning..it was breaking daylight and i hear a vehicle coming that sounds like its falling apart. parks and i can now see. 5 minutes later here comes a big ole pumpkin. walks straight down the trail towards me. gets parrelel with me and proceeds to look around and load his gun. then sat down on a rock for about 15minutes. being in state game lands i CHOOSE to leave my orange hat AND vest on. i dont even think i was requiered to wear a vest PERIOD. i think this week an orange hat will do..and it can be removed so long 100inches of orange is hanging. this guy looked around and looked my direction 100 times. never noticed me. he was less then 50yds away!!! (BTW he had an orange vest but NO orange hat!! lucky i couldnt get his license number!) after about 15 minutes i decided im not going to have him sit there all morning...and chucked a stick over board. he gets all excited and though a giant squirrel fell from the tree..then he FINALLY noticed me..walked straight back to his car and left. thanx for ruining my morning! get your eyes checked and read the rule book!! i would been HAPPY if he procedded to walk the old logging road PASSED me and hunted..he could atleast stirred up some deer.
about 830-9am it go REALLY windy and turned black. that guy sat right next to the deers thicket and i knew i wouldnt see squat so i opted to work on my school project. i took nearly 60 pictures this morning. IDed all the trees etc...and actually got another area to hunt i been over looking. i wont bow hunt it..its an old clearcut..but come rifle season ill be sittin in there somewhere!! what a joy school projects are...leading me to a clearcut which just so happened to have mad deer sign. just too thick to bowhunt yet..next year i may bowhunt in it..and the project also led me down the mountain..where i found more promising areas to scout for next year. i wont be hunting much more at school..maybe 1 or 2 more days..no sense in moving now!
PS...my scrape dripper was still there...about half full still and i only put about 1.5 oz in it? maybe it was just too cold for it to work the last 2 weeks..some NIGHTS were warmer then the days..and i heard it drips a little ever 10 degrees the temp rises..some days in never rose 10 degreees...but the scrape was abandoned...kinda odd. he couldnt have smelled me. i hung it in a nasty downpour and was pretty dang scent free to begin with..so i dont know...ill try it again next year but i found that odd...

Thanks, Mauser. I appreciate all the encouraging words. My solace is I'll have a little piece of this deer with me forever (his hide).....and I'll remember the moment I saw him, forever. He was.....BEAUTIFUL.
the little woodlot I shot him in is less than 10 Acres. I know he had a hard time hiding.....and I know there hasn't been anyone hunting those woods for YEARS. I also know he had a target on his back that was HUGE. I don't regret taking him........It's just going to have to sink in.

Dear team:
I think the deer aren't fearing you. Someone needs to lay the smack-daddy down on one. I asked a few deer around here.....and they said they'd never heard of you guys.
Just sayin......
