Well I went dove hunting today. The action was slow but I ended up with 13. A lot of corn is shelled so the doves are getting scattered. I even saw someone shelling beans.

Bow season opens up tomorrow. I'm may not go until Sunday. I'm off until Friday so I'll get in several hunts I hope. I'm not going to shoot a doe this early but if Mr. Big Daddy walks by I'll sling one at him. Wish me luck.

Okay guys and capt m....I'm almost complete in setting this darn thing up...I have a thread for alternates/mia to be placed, of course we don't need one cause people are knocking on our doors to join our team and we just have to turn them away...sorry guys. This winning team has all it's members....

With the completion of setup I'll have more time for SMACK..that's right I've only started...

Lead on M...lead on.

mauser....the reason I'm in no hurry to shoot a doe now is many still have fawns that still have spots. I have almost 5 months to bow hunt so I don't have to be in any hurry. Now if I see a doe with fawns that are 3\4 grown then I may take her. I'll be in the stand tomorrow morning. It will be good to be back in the tree.

Well I had to teach a competitor a lesson today. I traveled down state a bit to shoot a pop up indoor 3D course with Q2INWHITETAILS from team 12. Although he shot fantastic beating everyone in the league there, I outshoot him by 10 points each round...LOL HI Kurt... Just like in the contest, we'll one up each team...right guys?

Kurt,

Well just got back from hanging stands for one of my youth hunters.

Looks Pretty good, ton white oaks, nice field for the deer to graze. Bedding area is between him and the field. We scored a noce 6 point 2 years ago there.

Now out to set my last 2 and I am done, and ready!!!

KY..thats awesome..i guess to think about it bow season is 5 or 6 weeks. 2 weeks of rifle(can use a bow if you wanted) and a 3 or 4 or 5 week late flintlock/bow season so ours isnt TOO short....but the early season is best...pressure is crazy..exspecially here where i am with all the houses etc. hunting land is slim. howd today go for ya??

rob...good job glad to hear you kept the order! lol

ghemry..sounds awesome...good luck with the youth hunters!

i talked to my farmer friend yesterday. he came into walmart(my place of employment....) and i was talkin to him for a while..while i acted like i was helping him lol. he said hes been seeing a bachlor group of SIX shooter bucks every evening. his corn and hay fields are the only around. and alot of oaks around the area too. once the bachlor group breaks itll be interesting to see what happens. theres SOME bowhunters around but we rarely see any so i thinnnnnnnk i may be OK in that department. if not we already have backup plans. got permission tucked right behind housing plans which is where the bucks hide once pressure is on. going to fish/scout up at school this week hopefully. i been hunting there since i was 12 and already know what TREES i want to climb..just want to take a walk around on the state game land trails and check up on things. last time i did that was a spring turkey season. had the birds dead patterend. something told me to check it out to be safe. they were logging the spot!!!! but i should be alright..just wanna make a pass through. im excited. i cant wait. im going to shoot a few arrows now since it quit raining finally...i think lol.

rob.....you been hunting PA longer then i been alive.....any ideas on when the bachelor groups will break up?? just curious..i never really cared much about deer this time of year. but the farmer said he seen the 6 together recently. hes an awesome guy and a heck of a hunter. last year he set up my buddy in a spot for bow season. by 9am the kid missed TWO shooter bucks and was back to the farm to tell us about it! he never shot his bow but maybe 4 times. just didnt feel like it. but that tells you a little of how good my "guide" is lol. and he absolutely loves me and wants me to kill a big ole buck in the worst way. we do drives in rifle and muzzleloader season. only way to hunt around here once the pressure is on..the group taken a few nice ones over the years..but we rarely kill "the big one" just gets to close to houses and we cant get them out. but hes excited for me to be bowhunting finally. he wants me to bring " the big one" down the farm!

mauser I've seen batchelor groups as late as mid October, but that's usually about as much as they can stand each other. Much past that and you can figure them to be split up.

A friend of mine stopped by to show me some cam pics today. He had it in a location that I used to hunt. 3 years in a row a batchler group of bucks came through on the first day of archery season. The big boy in the back looks sweet!

nice pic. that does look like a big ole boy in the back ground.

see..learned something new. i figured by the time they had hard horns they were splitting up. but the rut dont kick in till nov or so...so that makes sense of some sticking together. ill have to keep that in mind the first week or so. instead of shooting a basket rack wait and make sure that theres noone else coming in with him. im so excited i cant wait...its getting unbearable..expecially with the cold air the hurricane seemed to bring in. man it feels like fall out there.

this evening i set up my "poor mans 3d"(a cardboard cutout of a buck!) with my bag behind it. i walk all arond the yard shooting from all over at unknown distances. although its my yard and i have out to 40yds marked..i still dont know the diffrent angles and yardages. i was hiding behind the trees..hunkering down below low limbs...shooting through the abandoned BIG wooden swingset/slide/sandbox etc..it was good practice. next weekend or so my buddy and i are hoping to meet schedules and set up a stand in the woods and shoot his 3d from it while the guy on the ground moves it around. next year i plan to hit all the 3ds i can find and have time to shoot. i think they would be fun and pretty decint practice. thats my biggest fear is missing or worse..wounding a deer because i misjudged distance. i THINK im ok...but im definently going to practice that more before season. id like to own a range finder someday..since i gota count points and all.....thats another thing...i gotta count to 4 before releasing...i hope i can do that..judge the distance and make the shot before my chance passes!...itll be an interesting year....but im going to give it my all.....

I agree, last season I watch a bachelor group for the first week and a half of Oct. There were 4 sometimes 5 bucks there. 2 big eights, either one would be with the scrub rack bucks that week, sometimes both. Shortly after that they started wondering alone.

The countdown continues, I see 17 has one on the board, no worries mates...it's not open season here yet.
