RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
I've been really busy with school and work, so I haven't posted in a while. I'm not getting much hunting in but I'm doing what I can when I can. Went out this morning...saw a small 6 or 4, couldn't tell at 45 yds (Thick brush). So far it's been a slow season, but the activity is slowly increasing.

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Past on 2 spikes this evening in one of my better areas. Deer are acting wierd this year, but getting toward the rut, so.... Going again this evening. My son lost his football game so I am licking my wounds.:(First year playing so I guess he's doing good.

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Unfortunately my evening sit was most uneventful. My brother missed on a 3.5 year old with a ton of potential ( sorry to say, but I was glad he missed that buck). I'll be back at it again next weekend. Enjoy the pics.

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
James, is that one of those mineral blocks for cattle? If so how do the deer like it? Have you noticed any improvement as far as antler growth with the minerals? Went out yesterday evening and only saw a family of coons, but it was cool. One of the young got within 10 ft of me. My wife wants me to shoot and mount one, but it'll wait til trapping season. My good friend that went with me missed a doe, it's his first year of bowhunting. He was excited to get the chance to shoot.

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
I'm not sure on exactly what that block is composed of. It's advertised as "trace mineral". Deer seem to dig it, and the bears dont' bother with it too much.

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Well tonight was eventful. I have to work saturdays until 5pm, so I hurry back to get at least a little over an hour on stand here. I get settled in a 5:45, within 5 minutes I have two doe under me. They're a bit skittish, and they slowly made their way up to the corn. About 30 minutes left of legal shooting time and out walks a real nice 6. I got ready for the shot as he made his way in...but then he just stopped. Didn't lift his head for a sniff, or get skittish...he just stopped and looked around for about 15minutes. By that time it was getting dark and he stayed there until I started to get down from the stand, which in turn caused him to run off[:@] Oh well, I don't think I spooked him that bad, and he certainly didn't make out what I was (it was so dark).

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
I have some good news to report. Team Predators is on the board. I took a buck on Tuesday evening and recovered him on Wednesday. Will post the pictures and score this weekend.
Now I can focus on filling a few antlerless tags. |
RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Thanks.
Here are some of the details of the hunt. Left work early and was in my stand by 4:30 pm. Had moved my standw days earlier to get on a more heavily used trail. This buck came in about a half hour before sunset and was headed to a stock pond. I had a 30 yard shot opportunity through an opening and as I drew before he reached that point, I somehow cocked my bow sideways such that the arrow fell off the rest and dropped 15 feet to the ground. It didn't bother the deer and he continued on for his drink, unfortunately he was then out of range. I had put some Myles Keller Hot Doe Gel on my boots at the stock pond before walking to my stand. After his drink, he got a whiff of the scent and started acting like a teenage boy with a peep hole into the girls shower room. After a period of frisky activity, he raced down another trail and I thought he was gone for good. There were other deer feeding in the area, however noon were shooters.Figuring this deer wasn't coming back, I kept an eye out foranother larger buck that I had also seen in the area. A short time later, this deer came trotting back down the trail. I think he was looking for the doe he thought was in the area. He left the trail and came directly towards my stand. I decided to take advantage of the opportunity at hand and released an arrow when he was at eight yards from the base of my tree. The Rocky Mountain Synper tipped arrow did its job. I caught one lung and the liver with a complete pass through. I waited until dark, climbed down and left the area as I was unsure where the hit was even though I could hear that it was a solid hit. Iwent back at 10:30 pm that evening and we found him 60 yards from the point of the hit. I have taken many does with a bow and this is myfirst bow buck. He's not a record breaker in terms of antler score, but I amvery satisfied with the hunt and the positiveresult. I have 10 bonus antlerless tags this year and am looking forward to having some fun filling a few of them. Good luck to each of you on your hunts. North4 |

Guys, haven't hunted much but plan on hunting more this weekend and next week. My mother had a devastating stroke, so I have been spending a lot of time in the hospital which is 50 miles away. Good luck to everyone and I hope to be on here more. |

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Nice pic north4
Guys i almost made it happen Thursday morning. Had a 125"-130" 10 point come in with very narly bumpy bases. only promlem, he came in at 28 yards with just enough brush in the way for a clean shot. if he had been 25 yards i would of had a wide open shot. When i first spotted him he was going to give me about a 15 yard shot then he turned and went thru the brush. I also had seen him the evening before on the other side of me but it was to late to see good enough to shoot as i was just getting ready to climb down anyway. I have been finding GREAT rubs it seems like everywhere and also got a good pic of a nice fat 8-point. here is a pic for you guys to enjoy. Good luck everyone. Time to hit the woods. Dan ![]() |

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Thanks guys for the thoughts about my mother. I actually was able to do some hunting today.
Success guys! Score one for Team Predators. Not the biggest rack(7 pt.), but a mature, big bodied buck which was estimated to be 5 years old. The buck weighed in at the processor on his scales at 230 lbs field dressed. It took us 3 hours to drag him out. This is the only property I hunt that an ATV cannot be used It just about killed us crossing the 2 wide, deep creeks. Glad they weren't full. It was a wild morning. First I passed on a 6 pointer only to see him later being pushed around and harassed by my buck. Though I am very happy with my buck, 5 seconds later a larger, big racked buck came onto the scene after hearing the commotion. This other buck was at least 22" wide inside spread, but I do not know how many points. I will give him a try later in the week after buying another set of tags. Pictures later. |

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
I'll give you guys an update. I haven't posted much on the regular board about my latest happenings for fear of being flamed. I've shot, and lost two dandy bucks this year. The first being a @140" as a straight ten point. The shot was low, and I don't believe the deer was fatally wounded. I had good blood for the first hundred yards, and he then bedded down. After he got up, I could only find drops of blood here and there and that went on for about a mile before the blood finally ran out. He never bedded down again. A week later, I had yet another opportunity on an even larger buck. This one being a huge eight point. I would estimate him to be in the high 140's to 150 range. He was ONLY 6 yards! 6 yards and quartering away! You couldn't ask for a better shot. But, it was probably too close. I don't know exactly what happened on the shot, because the buck turned 180 degrees and I couldn't see where the arrow hit. Nearly the same story as the first buck. I had four people helping me the next day, we tracked him definitely for a mile on only drops of blood before finally running out of blood. He never bled good. I held the draw about to the point that I could no longer hold it on that deer. I must have severely pulled the shot and put it in front of his shoulder, and exited the brisket. No idea really. Before I get flamed or any accusations are raised; I shot my bow all summer. I shoot practice arrows each time I enter the stand. I have practiced broadheads, etc., etc., etc. No idea what the deal is, just bad luck I guess...2X. I'll be rifle hunting, as well as headed to Iowa for shotgun season, and I'll be back home to hunt our late season. Just had a rough year thus far.
|
RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
James, that is bad luck but no flaming from me. It happens to everyone sometime. I helped a buddy search until 2am for a nice buck he shot a week ago. Mostly bean stubble field, harder than hell to find blood at night in a cut bean field. He was out the next morning and found blood again and followed best he could. His buck traveled almost a mile with little to no blood most of the way. Even with a pass through if no major arteries or vitals are hit they can make it alright. Good luck for the rest of the season.

RE: 18-Team "PREDATORS" Official Thread
Not much team talk here guys. Hows everyone's season going? I have a excuse, I have been sitting ina tree trying to score for our team. I did that tonight with a nice 10 pointer.Ill post the pic in the main forum I guess. Not sure what he will score but I am indeed exausted from getting him out of the woods by myself. Hope you guys have good luck here in the remainder of the season. Let's make a run at it!

Nice one Tribal! I passed up a few eight points during rifle, but didn't see any bucks big enough to shoot. I'm headed to Iowa this weekend for shotgun. I'll be hunting Wisconsin through the very end with bow if nothing else.
