welcome nctaxi. I take it you are from North Carolina?

James if I may ask, what part of Illinois are you going to hunt? That is going to be a lot of fun hitting all those states.

M/Hensler, good luck in college.

Predators sounds good to me. If the majority agrees, maybe someone will step forward and give us some ideas for a logo.

Thanks Cougar. The first step in getting help is realizing that you have a problem, so.... My name is Greg and I am a whitetail-aholic. I live in North Carolina and am a taxidermist, part time anyway. Stoked about the season, just aquired 210 more acres bordered by 150 acres of soybeans. I already have a few great bow spots so this is just icing on the cake. Have we decided team captain? Predators is alright but it's hard to come up with any really cool logos for that. How long do we have to come up with a name? The areas I hunt don't have a lot of huge deer but there are some, so would you rather nail one early or hold out for a big one and takea chance on not getting any? I hope to help the team out as best I can.

Cougar Mag, I'll be hunting in Iowa, not Illinois. Although, it would be good to get down to Illinois at some point. As far as Iowa goes, I'll be hunting around the Cedar Falls area.

Welcome aboard NC.

James Vee,

Thanks for the map. It's encouraging to see that the 2 counties that I do most of my hunting in have produced record book whitetails. North4

Matt,

Where is Cogan Station in PA? I learned to bowhunt in your great state when I lived and worked there in '79 - '80. Lived in Benton north of Bloomsburg and really enjoyed it. Back then, compounds were not what they are today. Had the opportunity togo to the Bowhunters Festival in Forksville a couple of times. Bought archery accessories and arrows for my BrowningNomad there. Was smitten with the archery bug thenand in fact still have the bow and some of the arrows hanging in my basement. Didn't actually take any deer with a bow back then, too naive about scent control and treestands weren't widely used. Definitelyhave all of the right equipment now and the sport is still a challenge as well as a thrill. North4

It's just north of Williamsport (about 5 miles). I've never been to the bow festival, but I've been to Forksville (do a lot of fishing along 87 and the Loyalsock creek).

I actually grew up in PA, just southwest of Pittsburgh, in Washington. I was planning a trip to hunt there this year but started a new job and vacation time isn't right yet.

Here's a few recent pics for you guys to check out. The big boy didn't come through this time that I can be sure of. I've got some other pics with big bucks in the background that I couldn't ID. Enjoy.

Nice ones!!! Here's one from last year. Sorry I didn't put camera out this year on this property, since no-one hunts near here. Iknow of 14 different bucks using this property, 12 in pictures and 2 live. The 2 live were huge, but out of range!

That one I called "Topper". I can't get the rest of the pictures to come up, sorry!

Doesn't appear that all of our team are posting much. Maybe I missed the flurry of posts. SO I guess I'll have to post pictures:D

One of the deer I mounted last year

I'll be putting out 3 trail cameras this weekend. So we'll see.

Thanks Bow. I have to get some work finished this weekend. Maybe next weekend I'll get to mount an impala, that I've been putting off. I have to finish a coon and a red fox first. Season starts next Sat for me. :D

I would accept being team captain if everyone ok's it, but it doesn't matter to me who the captain is. I really believe we have a very good team, and I love the pics you guys have posted. James, those are awesome! I believe we have a couple of members absent due to antelope hunts, but they should return soon.

As for me, I have been negligent on my hunting regimen this year. I am going to take advantage of the cooler weather and extended days off from work to hang some stands this weekend and maybe do a little dove hunting since today is dove opener.

Made it back, finally. I will post pictures when I have a chance to get them off the camera. Cougar Mag for captain is fine by me. It looks like several of you have some good prospects.
A little about my self. My name is Jeff. I am 28. Have been bowhunting for 10 years now. I live and hunt in Central Texas.
Season opens Sept. 30 here and I can't wait. This is the most prepared I have ever been and the season doesn't stsrt for a month.

Looking forward to get to know you all better.
Jeff

Central Texas? Any javelina? WIld hogs?

centexhunter 09-01-2006 09:08 PM

RE: 18- Team Official Thread

I am several hundred miles north of javelina country. Wild hogs are also pretty rare but we have killed a couple on the land we hunt around here. There are a couple of pieces of public land about a hour and a half away that is bow only that we do most of our hog hunting on. Do you have anything besides deer in NC? Bear?

nctaxi 09-02-2006 07:37 PM

RE: 18- Team Official Thread

Let's see..... Some of the biggest bear in North America are killed in eastern NC (500 - 700 lbs), eastern turkey, coyotes, bobcat, fox, ducks, geese, dove, some wild hogs, and the assorted small game. This year I am going to start trapping for otter, beaver and a few others.

We didn't have anyone's season starting on Sept 1st? That's too bad. I've got two weeks more to go, and I'm ready as ever.

Season opened here on Sept. 1. Continuous rain the past 2 days have kept me from being in a treestand. Hope to get there tomorrow. North4

Starts the 9th, next Sat., was checking and moving some stands today and yesterday. Trail cameras up on new pieces! Shot today and grouped well... 3" at 35 yrds. On the down side I lost an arrow today, shot it at a snapping turtle in my pond[8D]. Was getting a little too cocky and thought I could get him. Hit his shell and ricoched way off into the woods. Darn things have a hard shell.[:@]

Put up a stand yesterday in one of my favorite spots, and its usually better in the early season. Jumped a decent buck(either 8 or more points). Found a nice rub in the area I placed the stand. I refletched some arrows over the weekend, looks like I will be using the Blazer vanes because they are grouping very well using my heads. October 1st will be here soon!

2 does and a bunch of fresh rubs on acorn flats. Thinking about walking some new land today since Sunday Hunting is illegal here. I plan on some evening hunts this week, but have to check the work schedule.

Put up one last stand over the weekend. We recieved some much needed rain last week. We have been in the worst drought that I can remeber. I hope it hasn't affected antler growth too much. I have seen several nice bucks but you have to wonder how big they could have been. Anyway the rain sure has brought the temperatures down. It is starting to feel like fall.

Nailed down another 10 acres today. Have to go check it Wednesday. Supposed to back up to some city property. Guy says that he pulled in the drive at his house and there were 3 standing in his yard.

Well, everything is in place right now for another season. I have a few stands in areas where I know there are many deer. I will be heading out this weekend for the opener. I can't believe the season is HERE! Good luck guys. I'll keep you posted. If a Pope and Younger steps in front I will take him but 125" is my requirement for harvesting unless it's late December.
