31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Here we are-

Team 31

283. NJBowman
269. OkieArcher
29. Trembow
151. DaveC
195. dwd2001
228. ohiohunter07
140. teamster284
175. 24/7 hunter
219. Mike Hill
13. Froman

I'm DaveC from a town near Houston, TX. I hunt two different parts of the state, one in the piney woods of East Texas and the other in the rocky hilly mountainous southwest Texas (new lease).
Stands are in place, time to sit a hunt or two to figure out what we have on the new lease beside PIGS- we know we have lots of those .

How are everybody else’s season prospects looking?

Hey everyone. I hunt in wisconsin. Mostly in the swamps and river bottoms in the central part of the state where I live. My dad and his friend also lease land in the hilly SW part of the state. Around home Ive seen a few does which is good since In my part of the state, we need to kill a doe before we get a buck tag. Last night I saw a bachelor group of 4 or 5 bucks. Most were 1.5 or 2.5 years old. Good luck to everyone.

Hi everyone Mike Hill here from Mass. Our season dosen't get going until 16 Oct. so as usuall I will probibly be the last one to get started on the team. I took a nice 8 point opening day last year unfortunitly there were only 2 of us from my team last year to score. Lets get er done this year It already looks like we got some folks who live in Big Buck country so we should have a good shot at this thing. If I can help out in any way just let me know.Lets start thinking of a team name and slogan. Now the hard part the waiting

Trembow 08-21-2006 10:38 PM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Hey Folks! Another Yankee on your team for ya.

I'm also from Mass. I had big hopes last year for an Illinois bruiser but I came home with a doe instead [&:] I then proceeded to miss a nice 120 class buck the next week here at home.

I've been chasing this buck for three years now:

I got one of his sheds in December of 03 and had him scored using it and this picture and he reportedly would go about 160" then!

October 16 just can't come soon enough!

Hey guys, glad to be a part. My name is Dustin DeCroo and I live in Norman, Oklahoma. I hunt just about everywhere in the state. I've got some great places up near the panhandle, East of Tulsa, and in the central part of the state as well. I also have a couple buddies with ranches in West Texas that have proved to be productive as well. I cannot wait for season, or for this heat to go away.

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Trembow, great pic!
3 years now, time to change things up on him, sounds like he knows your routine;).

dwd, wow, sounds like you've got some great areas to hunt.

Mike, glad to hear you know how to add to the score. What total scorewould it take to win this thing anyways?

Okie, a 150 would sure be nice n the wall & help our score a lot, good luck to ya.

24/7, swampy wisconsin soulds like big deer. Good luck with doe. Man if we had that rule here it would sure put some does down fast:D.

Any names yet?

OkieArcher 08-24-2006 03:59 PM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Hay where is the rest of our winning team at:D,,I'm trying to help with a name, but every time I come up with one, my wife give's me the LOOK!!And say's you gotta be kidding,,,LOL and of course I agree,,,,Well me and my hunting buddy picked up the trail cam's yesterday got some good pic's of our BIG BOY,I'll try and get my friend to help me post a pic cause I have no idea how to do that...We also got our food plots in so pray for RAIN in Oklahoma. Let's see... that plus my vote is TWO VOTES FOR TEAM "STEAMING GUTPILES"

Woohoo!

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Team Steam, or Team Steamin' has a nice ring to it. But I guess it doesn't explain what the steam represents.

Team Steaming Gutpiles is fine with me, but we'd have to get the gut'sout mighty quick down here to see any steam before December ;).

Really?!! That would be cool! We could even maybe do a swap hunt sorta thing? Maybe a Friday/Saturday at "your" place and a Friday/Saturday at "mine" or something like that!

I'm planning a week off for hunting towards the middle or end of November, but a few Fridays off as well, weather and moon depending.

I like any name! don't matter

Trembow
Let me know I'm off work from the Sunday before bow season until 2nd week in Dec. I think I have 3 or 4 days inbetween that I have to work but I'm working on getting them off two. I will be in Maine during the week overlap of Oct. and Nov. and Ct. the week before Thanksgiving and maby a couple days the next week. But other then that I'm a go. I usually bow hunt alone and have a couple good spots. So let me know. As soon as this rain stops I'm going to start putting up some stands.

Cool beans! I have to work out my schecule as well. I'll grab a calendar and see what dates line up!

Whereabouts do you hunt in CT? My sister lives down in Old Lyme and I keep meaning to take the time to hunt down there. We could start next week for cryin out loud!

Tine Bomb

Use something like this with a big angry buck or a rack somehow for an avatar:

24/7 hunter 08-29-2006 04:46 PM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Tine bomb is my favorite so far. I saw a buck where i hunt today. only a spiker but hey, thats big news for me as i havent seen half as many deer this year as last. Im getting serious about checking fields every night now. Hopefully one of the local big guys will show up!

Mike Hill 08-29-2006 06:02 PM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Looking out my window right now I hav a big doe and 2 fawns in my yard munching the grass (I guess) there still all red heads soon their coats should start changing to their winter coats and turn brown. Just thought you guys might get a charge out of that. I'd get a charge if a big buck would show up. Haven't seen a buck in my yard since last years rut.

Trembow,
I hunt in Planville and Voluntown Ct. not really that far from your sister. And your right the Bow season starts down there on the 15th of Sept. But with the price of gas so high I'm not going down there till gun season. I figured if I was to go down there to bow hunt it would cost me at least $75 per trip on gas then I'd need a place to stay another $75 a night plus food and the extras about $200.00 a week so I belive I'll pass this year. My problem is that I am off Mondays and Tuesdays and no one is off those days they are usually off week ends so I'm on my own with no one to share costs with me.

I hear ya Mike. I'm hoping that maybe this winter I'll take some time down at my sister's scouting around to learn the area. The problem with that place is it IS LYME connecticut. Namesake of the disease! My bro-in-law and nephew have each been treated twice! And they don't even go in the woods! Winter is the only time I'd be comfortable nosing around without spending the whole time checking for ticks every few steps!

Drop Tine Bombers sounds good to me:D

Mike Hill 09-01-2006 08:05 AM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Hey Trembow,
If that place needs to be hunted I volunteer I,m not sceard. Actually I hadd the LYMERIX shots while they were offering them, they must have worked as I hunted Nantucket, and I used to hunt Lyme CT. in the state forest and never a twinge. and belive I'v had ticks all over me ya can't help it sometimes. My friend was just treated for Lyme the whole left side of his face froze up they put him on strong antibotics and he seems fine now. He got it at a cook out in Brockton. So I woulden't let the ticks stop me you can get lyme anywhere it seems.

Again what ever name you guys want I'll go for. A name is a name but when it comes time for the shooting I want straight shooting. Thats all I ask!!! Aned hopefully I will take my own advice.

OK has everyone picked out what stand they are going to take for opening day..............Well...............What are you waiting for. Geterdone. Mike

Ditto here, heck anything is good by me.

Opening day stand? try being at work[:@]. No big loss though since opening week is usually still in the 90's.
On my Southwest Texas lease, that hold's higher expectations, the deer don't rut until mid-late december, so patience is a must.
On my East Texas lease they rut at the end of October, but a 120" woulddraw a crowd there (poached & hard hunting), so I don't expect any more than a doe or pig from there.

Good luck everyone, no matter what you shoot, shot placement & a quick kill is key.

DaveC

So are we the "drop tine bombers"?

Where are our MIA's at ??

Mike Hill 09-03-2006 09:25 AM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Yep I'd say "Drop Tine Bombers" are who we are with 2 votes and a bunch of its OK with me's.
Now if it ever stops rainning I'm going to do a little scouting. I'm suppos to go to Ct. tommorow and scout a new farm with my partner. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

With gas prices falling I just might be able to do little bow hunting in Ct. not just with the gun. I paid $2.53 the other day and they say by Oct.1 it may be under $2.00 I sure hope so .

Drop Tine Bombers sounds good to me. Sorry I haven't been real active guys, I've deen doing a little dove hunting in Western OK. I'll be in NW oklahoma for opening day, I have pretty high hopes... This last month is the longest month of the year.

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

Has anyone PM'd our no shows yet if not I'll do it but I don't want to hound them if someone already did?
I just posted our 4 MIA's to Rob so we might be getting replacements soon.

DaveC 09-03-2006 04:27 PM

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

I haven't PM'd, post away, the more they are bugged the more incentive to join in.
Of the MIA's I recognise Froman and possibly NJbowman.

I'll PM if I get time later tonight (work comes first;)).

Amen to the gas prices falling, I'm driving 6hrs (~350 miles) to my west Texas lease and at just under 17mpg, I could use a little help from OPEC.
It was $2.37 near my other lease last week and just dropped to $2.39 at my corner Valero.

Looks like it's Drop Tine Bombers,I guess I get to change the name since I started the thread? let me go & try.
