Depends on what I'm aiming at.
I'll streatch it out for a big pig, but for whitetails 30 is my max, butI have slipped up, misjudged and took a doe at 36 before.

Ah yes that's exactly the reasons. The buckslike to check out the does that are hangin' outat the pool. But I did find they don't hang aroundvery longwhen I put on Fred Bear by Ted Nugent and start shooting the bow out there with them.

here is an archers poem I always like to read this time of year ,,don't know if you guy's have already seen it or it may have been posted before but here it is

Clean Kill or No Kill, Lord

0 Lord, I am a hunter
And life I seek to take
But let me not attempt the shot
Beyond my skill to make
For Lord they are your creatures
Given for our use
But each one falls within your sight
They're not for our abuse
And when I loose my arrow
Please guide it swift and true
Or let it miss completely, Lord
That pain be not undue
A clean kill or no kill, Lord
Such is my heart's desire
Give me the skill to make it so
Or let me hold my fire
And when my time upon this earth
The days they are fulfilled
Grant that I may die at least
As clean as those I killed

Nice poem & very true.

I sent the e-mails & it turns out Froman is a moderator.
STEP up Mr. Mod, show us how this huntingnet works:D.
All joking aside I hope all is well; last logged in on 9-5-06 TODAY!

Ohiohunter last logged in on July 22, not looking too good, but we'll see.

I kind of thought he was a Mod but I wasn't sure, hadn't seen him in a while though.

I'll start playing with a logo a little bit this afternoon. I'll try to use the Mushroom cloud and a monster buck (with a drop tine of course).

My sister is on the inside of a "jughandle" road off of Route 1 down in Old Lyme CT and they hang out in her yard all the time. Her yard doesn't even border any woods and they have to travel through at least two other yards to get to hers! They bed down just underneath her livingroom window sometimes! THey're always eating her shrubs and flowers! No pool though.:D

RE: Team 31 check in thread-

So, now that we almost have a full team anyone care to share what broadheads they will be usintg this season?

I'll start- deer will be slicktricks, phantoms, muzzy 3-blades & stingers.

Late evening smallerpigs (up to 150#)= sidewinders, Wasp jackhammers

Big pigs= Phantoms, Stingers.

And yes, all heads used have been flight tested, matched with an arrow that produced a repeated under 1" hit from point of aim at 30 yards.

Why so many heads? I bought em and want to get some use out of them. They all perform or don't go afield.

What is everyone else shooting?

I'm using the old tried and true NAP Thunderheads 100. Every year I say I'm going to upgrade the the new Pro series but these fly so good I can't part with them. Plus they never let me dow I'v taken 14 deer with them over the past few years.
Well got up this morning the dog was barking like crazy and when I looked out the window there were 8 doe outside. I'm like Trembow's sister they have to come through at least 2 other yards before they get to my yard but there there almost every day.

My bad guys my bad.

Haven't checked the "contest" room in awhile.

Been too busy preparing the food plot o death, shooting my bow, moving to another state, starting school up, all that jazz.

But I am here. I am still planning on...at least...attempting to add points to the board.

Peace fellas.

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Again glad you guys could make it. Froman, youhave places to hunt in the new state?

Alright guys I'm still workin on the logo, I had a little issue with my photoshop the other night, but I'll get one going.

As for the broadheads here they are.

Deer, Pigs, Coyotes, or whatever else happens to be in the area
Compound: Slick Tricks -(shot stingers, muzzy's, lots of others too)
Recurve: Probably Zwickey or Magnus... not sure just yet.

For Turkeys, I shoot the Gobbler Guillotine and Eastman ST3 or Eastman Silvertip broadheads.

Also if anyone is interested in Enigma camo let me know.

Well it looks like we are a complete team. Welcome NJ Bowhunter, Ohio Hunter Teamster, and Froman better a little late then never. Now lets get to scouting, hanging stands and practice, practice, practice. And don't forget to have fun thats what this is all about.
Last year a member made a DVD of the contest listing all teams and team members and photos of all the deer taken and regestered It was cool. I just watched my copy again and seeing yourself with your deer really pumps ya up. I hope they do it again this year.

Excellent!

Well the bowhunting gods are smiling on me:
My wife is working tomorrow.
My mother is taking the kids overnight and all day tomorrow.
It's not gonna rain tomorrow.

SOOOOO, I'll be hanging stands like a madman and scouting out a new property I got permission to hunt this year (complete with squash fields turned over and seeded with rye just in time to have nice tender shoots in mid November!!)

Broadheads? In the Trembow quiver will be:
3 Muzzy Phantom 100 4 blades
2 NAP Thunderhead 100s (cuz I can't fit 5 Phantoms in my quiver)
and maybe sometimes
1 Free Sonic 100 for varmints or a finishing shot in case I spine a deer.

hello everyone, on which broadhead question, i have a little problem,,,I've bought and sited in some Montec G5 100 gr. I like them alot ,,they are alittle noisey but at 270fps hope it doe'nt matter. The problem is I just found out there illegal in my state of oklahoma, broad heads must be 1.5 inches,,,,I called the game warden he said he was'nt going too whip out a tape measure but it was still the law. He did say, that thelawneeded to be addressed so I guess to be a law abiding citizen I'll will break-out some 3 blade muzzy's ( what do you guy's think I should do?????)

Mike Hill 09-10-2006 04:56 PM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Okie,
Your on your own on that one buddie. I'm having my own problems I just shot my broadheads and there hitting los to the left. I guess I'll have to go to the Archery shop and have my bow lazered. Pain in the butt I have to go to Fall River (25-30 miles away) just to have it checked. Ya know I wish someone would give a course at one of the schools on bow tuning. I bet that class would be full every semister.

Dubbya 09-10-2006 09:50 PM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Okie, Montecs are fine here. The regulations state "Broadhead: Hunting type points not less than 7/8 inches wide (cutting diameter) and not less than 1 1/2 inches long (tip to the back of the threads on the ferrule)." No worries on those, screw 'em on and kill us a big one.

Trembow 09-11-2006 10:44 AM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Mike,
Lazering may or may not do it for ya, but if you're going to Trader Jan's, I'm sure she'll get you shooting those heads just fine.

I've been working on my broadhead flight for the last month or so and I've got them grouping well enough out to 40 yards now I'm just going to adjust my pins to get them within an inch or two of dead center.

Mike Hill 09-11-2006 06:31 PM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Well I don't know if I got the greatest advice in the world but they told me to leave it alone my broadheads are grouping good and I shoulden't play with my mess as I could frig it up. I don't want to do that at this time of the game so I guess thats what I'll do. I just feel like I'm loosing some k-energy. But I guess pulling 70 lbs and hitting where I want will do the trick. I just don't like shooting my field pionts and hitting high and right on purpos.

DaveC 09-12-2006 03:02 PM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Mike, I agree& disagree with what they recommended.

You can mark everything where it is at (.5mm pencil)and then try some moves, if things don't get better you can always put them back where they were before you started.
Have you tried the easton archery guide or 5 shots broadhead tuning link?

Going off of memory I'd say you need to move your rest up a small portion at a time and once the BH & FP come together you would then move the rest in to the right a smidgen at a time until the FP's & BH's come together. You will in the end need to move your sights to match your new point of impact at a given yardage.
THIS IS considering your arrows are spined right for your bow & you are a right handed shooter.

I like having my broadheads & fieldtips hitting true so I can switch heads back and forth between mechanicals & fixed blades.

Man a 1.5" fixed blade was going to be a booger to pull off. I don't know of many(any?) that cut that wide as afixed blade. i think one of the crimson talons might. Good thing Dwd got that straightened out;).

Mike Hill 09-12-2006 04:19 PM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

I don't know whats going on with my mess now I went out to shoot it and the field points are hitting fine ( grouping all in a 1 in circle) shot the broad heads again which I resighted in for and they are hitting even lower then before and to the right. I going to the bow shop tommorow for sure. Wish me luck. I might have to go back to last years bow.

hey guys, only 3 and a half days until my season! i cant wait. I will be using rocket hammerhead expandables. Ive been shooting about 5 or 6 inch groups at 40 yards, and 3 or 4 inch groups at 30. i dont plan on shooting more than 30 at a deer.

hi Mike HillI had the some problem one time with my bh and fp not hitting the same place what I did was sight in your broadheads get them dead center then try field points if there off a little make small ajustment to bring them in it worked for me....main thing is do boadheads first the field points are more forgiveing hope this helps good luck!!

Good luck 24, which rocket heads are you using? I've seen some nasty (in a good way ) results with the sidewinders.

Dave, ill probably be using hammerheads. havent been to town lately. we are going tonight to get licenses and broadheads and whatever else we might need. I havent used hammerheads yet but my dad has and has killed lots of deer with them. only problem is, they sell out real fast around here. ill check out the sidewinders too.

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Mike,

I had been having a heckofatime getting my bh's tuned.

I finally did a bare shaft test last week and discovered that my spine is weak (400 Beman BlackMax, 27.5", 66lb SBXT).

With my old bow, I was shooting Axis ST 400's at 60 lbs and the bare shaft test told me I was nearly spot on for spine.

I've also noticed that the bemans are not nearly as durable as the Eastons although they "seem" to be the same shaft, I don't think they are! Perhaps they're also a bit weaker in the spine department?

Maybe you have a weak spine? :D

Mike Hill 09-13-2006 05:01 PM

Getting a little personal aren't we T (haha)

Anyway I made my way to the Pro shop today (Trader Jans) she took a look at my bow and said it was way out of tune so I am without my bow for a week so she can tune it. And they said the same thing that I shoulden't have to change my sights so that my broadheads and field points hit the same place. I'm sure glad I didn't wait I was going to buy some spitfires and try them but at least I'm doing it right. You woud think that after 30 years of bow hunting I'd learn to work on my own bow woulden't ya. Lets hope everythings alright when I get it back.

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

Trembow, 400's or 300's? your sig shows 400's.

I have no complains about Beman durability, but have noticed my older Easton carbonaero's usually hit exactly where I'm aiming at more often than the 340's.
Maybe some new eastons are in my future- I sure love the beman finish though. But I have noticed the Eastons have gotten smoother.

It's 400's. I get confused sometimes. I used to shoot PSE 300s and I think I got that number stuck in my brain. Couple that with the fact that I should probably be shooting 340s and my brain just shuts off before it short circuits.

I knew it sounded like that! What's that girls name over at Trader Jan's anyhow? She does really know her stuff. Is she gonna paper tune it for ya and everything?

Mike Hill 09-14-2006 02:40 PM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

I think her name is Barber but I'm not sure the older I get the worst the memory.
She is going to completely tune and lube my bow paper tune it and make sure I have my broad heads flying right for and incrediable price of $40.00. I got a little hook up as a friend that works at the prison with me also works at her shop part time so he said I'm getting taken care of. I hope so I'll let you know when I get my bow back. But she is running a special bow tune up and lube for 40.00 usually 50.00 so now is the time to get it done before hunting gets any closer.

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

What bows will everyone be using this year?

DaveC 09-15-2006 07:23 AM

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

24/7- My primary bow is a 61# Tribute, 29@ shooting 385 gr beman ics 400 blacks going 275.

My back-up isa 2004 65# Patriot @ 29", 405 grain beman ics 340 blacks going 272.

I might have to switch to the Pat for ground blind hunts since it has a lighter sight IF the VBG sight on the tribute doesn't pick up enough light to glow properly.
To tell you the truth I'd be just as happy hauling either one. They are both set up to Getterdone. The Pat has4 deer to it's name and has been a great bow, I purchased the Tribute because I wanted a 60# bow that could perform as well energy wise as my 65# Patriot.

Trembow, it sounds like you are on the edge spine wise with the 400's.
Here's one for you- Pound for pound my Tribute places more energy into the arrow than the Patriot. In their current configuration they are equal with the Pat shooting at 65# and the Trib at 61 ; both will a shoot a 400 grain arrow ~270=/- 2 or 3. The Pat prefers the 340's,. the Tribute the 400's. If I shoot a 340 through the Tribute my groups open up and it doesn't want to tune for them. Maybe it is all in my head, but as for now it is 400's for thr Tribute & 340's for the Pat.

Easton/ Beman needs an arrow between the 340's & 400's IMHO. from all the post I've read the 400's work real well from 55-65, the 340's from 65-70. There is a small void in the 65# area a lot of people shoot from. Maybe a 375 spine is in order???
