Mike, sounds like your freezer should be FULL-up by now.

I just purchased a muzzle loader and will be trying it out soon.

Here is a pic of a buck I shot recently from my ET lease with my Striker .308 pistol-

I'm heading back out to my West Texas lease for a 4 day trip and some morebowhunting next week. Maybe I'll score then.
And once again, I'm sure more pigs will die:(.
Although I think I came up with one trick to keep them away from one of my areas- we'll see.

Hey guys. I missed a 130 class buck on a drive during gun season. Bow season is open again and I won't be able to do much hunting during the week since I get home from school only an hour before dark. Im going to try and hunt in the backyard maybe during the week. Good luck everyone.

Only 3 more years until im done. Im not sure what Im going to do after that. Im thinking of getting into some sort of apprenticeship or going to tech school.

I usually hunt everynight during the week until late november because by then Im getting in too late and spooking deer. I Get my drivers license in 2 weeks and next week is the last week before christmas break so I'll be doing some major hunting then. The only bad thing is that its about 45 degrees here today and about 40 all week. It is usually 20 degrees and the only snow we got was in november i think. I have no clue where the deer are since they arent on fields and I cant see tracks. Im going out right now to put my climber on a tree I want to hunt this weekend.

I hunted on some city property open to bowhuinting last night. 2 days before, my uncle shot a nice 7 pointer about 400 yds.away. I didnt see anything, but 3 hours after shooting hours, my family was on our way home from a restaurant and a 10 pointer about 17" wide ran in front of the car. He was probably a 130". We were about 1/4 mile from where I hunted and he came from that way. Im going to hunt that pretty hard for the last few weeks of season. My uncle saw about 10 different bucks in that area this year.

Thickets and swamps, thickets and swamps. This time of year, after the insanity of the rut and the onslaught of gun seasons, deer are going to hold up in briar patches and on the edge of swamps.

Over the last couple weeks that's the only places we've been finding deer around here.

Find yourself a nice briar thicket on the edge of a swamp on that property and you'll find them moving around at noon and dusk.

Sorry to disapoint but you can stick a fork in me, I'm done as far as racks go.

I'll be muzzle loader hunting come January (doe only)but besides that- tagged out.

I took this buck off the west Texas lease last week and yes he had the ole ground shrinkage in effect. We bow hunted 3 of the 4 days (2 days past noon on the morning hunts)and I shot him on the last hunt, in hindsight I wish I'd stuck to my bow and changed stands, but I didn't. We weren't seeing crap for deer again and have been discussing finding a better lease, so when he showed up the safety came off.

Hey guys whats been going on. I guess the bow season didn't go so great for us. I took a nice one while muzzle loader hunting and the funny thing is I got him right down the street, and I have been running all over New England and there he was almost in my back yard. This deer is big and thick with palmanation like I'v never seen before.
9 Point
190 Lbs
B+C Score 144 4/8 Not book but not bad for a Mass suburban deer

Congrats Mike, that buck has HUGE mass- they don't grow them like that down here (unless there is a protien IV taped to their arm[8D]). Great buck.

That is a great buck Mike! My bow season is over due to shoulder surgery. I apologize for not being more active in our thread, but I have enjoyed it!!

RE: 31-Team Drop Tine Bombers

DWD2001, thanks for the kind words.
Well I've killed 2 bucks (5 & a 8) a pig anda few does with a .44 mag but the accuracy just wasn't what I desired when the buck or game fever set in. (yes I still get it from time to time).
So I decided if I was going to continue to pistol hunt I needed something more accurate. The Savage Striker is what replaced my redhawk. It is large to say the least and I haveyet to try and shoot it freehanded- I alwaysuse a rest. This makes it more of a “hand rifle” than a hand gun.

BUT I do enjoy it, very accurate and much easier to tote around and hunt with than a full sized rifle.

FWIW, I said we weren't seeing "crap" for deer, well that is stretching it a bit. I did have a forky, a 3 point and a 1.5 yo seven point (missing 1 brow) within bow range at one time or another. Just nothing I cared to hang a tag on.
The eight I shot was 14.5" inside spread and tooth aged at 3.5yo.
We thought we'd see a lot more deer on this lease, but the steep hilly mountainous terrain makes bowhunting difficult due to the constant swirling winds.

Nice buck there Mike! You don't often see mass like that on a deer from Mass!:D Weird how that rack seems to point UP too!

The season ends officially in just under an hour from now, but I quit this morning at noon. Something about sitting out the last half of the last day. I guess it comes from so many seasons in the past I went without getting a deer, sitting out the last day always made me feel like I had control over NOT getting a deer.;)

Anyhow, unless by some stroke of luck I win the lottery and can afford to quit my job and hunt Rhode Island (bow season runs through Feb.) I'm zipping for the contest this year.... again!

The wisconsin season enede a few minutes ago and it was crappy weather so I didn't even go this weekend. I didn't end up getting anything this year. Oh well, at least I tried. Turkey season is coming up in a few months, so I won't be bored for too long.

Well guys this will be my last post on here. You have all been great team mates even though we didn't do so good I would have each and every one of you on my team next year. Have a great off season Mike

Well said Mike & I concur.

My muzzleloader weekend was a flop due to the rain & cold. I did see 2 does, but didn't connect.
