Rob, I know we covered this last year, but I don't specifically remember how it was resolved.

Washington's archery season opens September 1st and I know another state or two opens just as early if not earlier.

Are we sure we want to close it and deal with the teams after the seasons are already opened?

If we close it then, and the teams aren't chosen for another few days, what happens if we shoot our buck opening morning? Will we be able to enter them as long as the season was open and the deer was taken legally?

The entire contest is based upon the honor system. Nothing can really be enforced, but why lie? It's a contest for fun and bragging rights, nothing more (well, a few nice prizes too, but still ;)).

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Another question Rob;

Will the scoring of Mule Deer be any different from that of the other species?

I know that last year this was discussed, but as is the case with the closing/season openings, my memory is failing me.

Will we need to deduct a certain amount of points from the totalor will the score remain the same?

Edit* Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to remember some of what we had problems with last year so we can get the rules straightened out way beforehand this year.

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Wash Hunt, questions are great, that's how we learn and we have from the last 2 years contests...

First, your right, it's an honor system and again correct, why lie, one would only be cheating themselves.

We going to close the entries on the 15th giving everyone time to sign up....If your signed up and are fotunate enough to score early, your buck will count and the team that gets you will have a great start. I think that's how I did it last year and it worked out okay. I don't want to see someone score and then sign up...that wouldn't be right.

Mule deer will be scored minus a % deduction that we had last year. I forget the P&Y difference but someone will remind us. Same as Blacktail, they are smaller so they will count with the multiplicated % to bring them up even to a whitetail....

Sound good?

Sounds perfect Rob!

I just wanted to clear some of the questions up that we had last year. :)

is there a website for pope and young scoring just like the b&c scoring website

Rob/PA Bowyer 07-09-2006 04:29 PM

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

clos21, I don't understand your question but I hope this helps. You need to be a bowhunter and when I post the Official Sign Up thread, you need to sign up and adhere to the rules. Just follow suite and read the posts regarding questions.....After the close of sign ups, I randomly place members to 10 man teams. A member from that team will start a Team Thread which I modifty to be the Official Team Thread....you check into that thread and enjoy the comradory that takes place...follow the rules and you'll catch on as it goes....

Oneshot7, yes, we'll have the link for P&Y scoring. It's actually very easy.

Another question for you, Rob;

Are we (the members of the teams) electing our captains or will you appoint them?

(Again, just trying to get the basics cleared away early)

It seems to me that the members have always elected the captains, but I just want to make sure things haven't changed.

Rob/PA Bowyer 07-09-2006 07:28 PM

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Teams themselves should elect the team capt that way your all in agreement.

Oneshot7, I appreciate the help but it's not too hard. The bucks come in slow enough and I can edit the Official Score Card as they come in. Again, thanks.

close21, there is no entry fee, the contest signup will start this week and if your talking about illegally taking buck out of season, your not welcome in the contest nor on this website. Please explain that last statement.

close21, perhaps you don't understand what kind of people we have to deal with and you cannot read the emotions behind words on a screen. I'm very happy to hear that you would never do that, I appreciate the clearification. I do not know you and believe me, I've read worse so I have to ask...no offense intended however we do deal with those that would...thank you and please sign in, you'll have a grteat time, and have a great season.

They are drawn randomly. Except for Team XX which will stay intact from last year because they won.

aahh poop there goes my question!! i think it would be kinda neat to have teams get made up by us if we want. like a PA bowhunter team...but then again i guess that wouldnt be too fair. certain guys are KNOWN to take big bucks yearly, and some states dont have as good of hunting and as big of bucks as others. i guess thats the fairest way to do it. ill sign up now, but wont know if i can participate for sure till i get my bow!

From: http://www.pope-young.org/minscores.asp

Whitetail (as norm):125/125 = score x 1
Columbia blacktail: 125/90 = score x 1.39
Sitka blacktail: 125/75 = score x 1.67
Mule deer: 125/145 = score x 0.86

Does that look right to everyone? I want to be sure before our season opens on August 1st.

Rob, are we going to be allowed to put pictures in our signatures again this year?

It's a great way to support our teams and show a little pride. If it's for bandwidth reasons that we can't,I would understand.

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Rob, I think I know the answer but I just want to make sure. We enter the first buckbut if we harvest a doe first we are not counted out...correct? We don't have to harvest a buck first but enter the first buck harvested. Right?

For example I harvest a doe on October 1st but get a buck on October 28th I can still enter it....

Rob/PA Bowyer 07-10-2006 06:47 PM

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Wash, I'll talk to Justin about allowing the team logos...

fun2hunt, you can shoot as many does as your state allows but it's the first buck that needs to be entered regardless of doe harvests....

Pitbull,
I'm not "official" or anything but what happened last year is you score your own buck. Larger bucks may be required to be officially scored by a P&Y scorer if you are entering it in the Big Buck contest and it's close between two or more bucks.

Rob/PA Bowyer 07-13-2006 10:23 AM

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Scoring is used using the P&Y scoring system, the link will be provided and is above. You are responsible for having the buck scored. Do it yourself, a friend or an official scorer, it doesn't matter as long as your honest, don't cheat yourself or others. When it comes to the big buck contest, the top bucks may have to be officially scored and paperwork provided unless it's a blowout...

The P&Y Gross score, you'll have to follow along on their directions, it's not hard.

Once you scored your buck, there will be an "Official Score Card" thread which will only contain entries, no other posts....the entry MUST have a picture posted with the score, THE BOW MUST be in the picture NO EXCEPTIONS THIS YEAR, YOU MUST be in the picture and the DEER MUST be in the picture, not just antlers or skull, THE WHOLE ANIMAL before processing, the deer may be field dressed. BEST BET, take a picture at the kill sight or immediately before skinning etc..

steve m, no....they are the winners from last years contest so they get the right to defend their title....same as the previous year, last year the winning team from the previous year defended their title and lost.....LIKE XX WILL THIS YEAR! mmuuuhahhhauuhahh;)

RE: 2006/2007 Official Contest Rules

Oh you want to bring some smack to the rules thread huh:DAll you people think 8 of 10 was a fluke. And to any average group of 10 bowhunters it might be....BUT we have a special team. THE XX.

And if nothing else we'll probably talk to each other the most of any other team.:D:DFor a long winded bunch we did find enough time to hush up and shoot deer.
