Hey guys, hunted hard the last three days. My brother in law is up so he hunted too.

I saw one nice 4x4 all weekend...and 3 little bucks. Deer are just starting to pursue the does...Bumped a deer that sounded heavy. bout it... Snow, rain sleet, winds...cold ..we had it all this weekend, It was good to be out. I did a lot of scouting and found some very hot sign near my doe stands...which is to be expected..bucks have moved in and are tearing up the areas...

My brother in law on the other hand missed a monster. He thinks it was Yeller. 6 feet from his tree, he shot right over it. I put him in one of my best "Doe" stands..and the big boy came in behind 3 does grunting up a storm. He hit his grunt one time and the big fella came right at him to the base of his tree lookingfor the intruder, he said the big buck was grunting feverishly... He said the buck was very light colored long and heavy bodied..VERY wide in therackand all he seen was a row of tall tines..LOL I can't say it was him but he was in the right area for it to be...and there arent a lot bucks back in there that fit that description. So that was our 3 day weekend.

I will hunt again tomorrow...and then off for 5 days...to hunt hard.

Sounds like the XX has some points getting added up ...

I'll check back later today...

Hey troy - we could probably find a few volunteers to sit in your good doe stands !

We pheasant hunted Sunday - walked our butts off and only saw one rooster - which J shot. Deer were moving like you would not believe Saturday afternoon - and again Sunday afternoon, it looked like clean up time - so the magnets are back to fair game from here on out.

Best of luck out there bud!

Mike

OK - here is the rest of a great weekend story:

Friday I went into work about 5am to get ready for an early meeting. G had his fall festival at daycare that evening so after I picked him upwe stayed there a little more than an hour. Talked to J when we left– he had shot a huge bodied 8 point that morning so we were pretty excited for him and pumped for the weekend.
The plan was to drop G off at the neighbors about 8 and head down for a combo weekend of deer and pheasant hunting. I did not get G dropped off & headed out till about 10:30 or so – but we were having a great morning, so I did not mind at all. On the way down, I found out that J had some major problems with one of the dogs (shorthairs). He found out that his young dog has diabetes??, and had a seizure out hunting – by the time I arrived, she had recovered, been to the vet and was doing great (just quite a scary experience).

With that, we decided to go deer hunting that afternoon and spend Sunday pheasant hunting with my dad, so after J picked up another doe tag, we were off for the timber...

As I indicated last week – my stand picking decisions has left to be desired, and J has been overrun with deer, so I had himpick my stand to hunt this time! I was headed for the climber and he was off for the quarter mile stand. I was taking my time into the stand trying to walk in as quite as possible.
I did not even make it to the stand! – I was 25 yards or so from the stand – when I heard and saw deer moving , a buck following a doe on the other side of the ditch the other side of the standand heading my way. I went down to one knee and watched to see how things would play out... and the doe kept walking down the other side of the ditch right into a nice spot straight across the ditch from my position whichI could thread an arrow through a couple trees for a good shot. I slowly raise to my feet and get prepared. He follows the doe, walks behind a tree and I draw, he continues on, steps right into the spot and stops, quartering away, 35 yards. I settle in on him, release and watch as the muzzy takes out both lungs. The doe takes off to the north and the buck hooks around and follows the doe to the north. The buck slows down after a short run, stops, wobbles and piles up 60 yards from the hit.
I called J and told him I had one on the ground, and headed back to the Tahoe to change. I cannot believe all the deer we were into that afternoon. J said he had about 20 north of his stand before he got into it.

When we went back in to track/recover – there were deer absolutely everywhere – there were at least 5 different shooter bucks and a ton of does everywhere!

Having some technical difficulties getting pic's posted - have shot some off to Ryan - so hopefully he will be able to get them up.

a few more XX points for the board!
