SUmhunter is probably pretty busy... I know he was heading down south since he works for HHS or something like that... Don't know about Bowhnt.. Maybe he is working hard to save up some time for hunting. Hasn't even logged on since the 9th and hasn't posted simnce the 25th of August... Hope everything is okay with both of them.. Of course, maybe they are not obsessive compulsive internet users like me. I walk in the door, walk upstairs, check my mail, reply to the people I need to, log on the message boards and than go back to work...Sometimes it is real bad because I am working inside. Than I get no work done and sit on the internet all day... I hate paper work.

I like the truck, getting used to the Diesel engine is taken some getting used to, as is the extra width caused by the dual rear wheels... I have to drop it off in a few days to get the goose installed on it... Might have to put on some running boards too. My wife looks at it and first comment was "Where the hell are the running boards. How do you expect me to get in that thing?" Oh well, that will be another few hundred... That and the toolbox for the back... Damn, my bank account has suffered a hemorrage...

Glad to read that someone can see the pictures...That was a relief.

Hi guys - I am back - will update later (hopefully tomorrow).
Shed - I tried to PM you but it would not let me - I can e-mail you from work - but don't have my e-mail setup on my home 'puter - I will need an XL.

Hi Il Rancher & AR34.

I better get a couple hours of sleep - spent several catching up on lots of posts.

Mike

Good to hear from you again Bow Hnt, welcome back. Man, this is a strange fall so far... Have had nothing but thunderstorms on and off the past week.. Been more like spring than fall, I suppose it is great as we really need the rain.. I am going to have to rethink my rain gear situatioin however.. Have some stuff that I got from herters way back when.. Maybe do the whole sent killing, hang outside, store in backing soda thing with that stuff too.. Oh well.

Well, I spent a little time out and about today near my hunting ground. Went in a back way and say in a brush pile where I could watch a water way and see if any deer were moving... Not the best place in the worl to watch but the wind was blowing right in my face and I did see a couple of does go down and get some water and than walk down stream and back up the bank to forage in the corn field... Kind of nice to see them, might have been 30 yards away.. during the time up there saw about a zillion carp swimming in the ditch/creek..They tricked me a couple times because they were splashing around down stream and I kept thinking it had to be a deer in the water... Well, eventually it was and I felt like a real idiot because I had convinced myself that it had to be the carp by that time.. Oh well, I wouldn't hunt that area, not enough shooting lanes but I did take note of where the easy access points to the stream/ditch where... Might come in handy in 6-10 days.

Hi Guys – I will try to make this short

Shed, Quick & Rybo – those are some very nice animals – congrats on all of them!
My season is October 1 – December 2 and December 19 – January 10 (quits through shotgun season)
IL – nice truck – we hunt apx 50 miles east of Shan. Will try to link up a satellite map if I can. Can’t remember if you indicated what kind of cows you raise. Oh and make sure you keep all the receipts for that “farming” stuff you purchased at Gander – camera’s for security purposes (rustlers in them there hills) protective clothing… not a problem there!
Shed – glad the little one was not AWOL for long, I know all the things that can run through one’s mind in a very short time. You will have to teach him to use trail marking tape to find his way home. Sorry about the bull… keep the info coming it is better than BOWHUNTER! I have not been able to check out the video clips – will try at work or here again after I do some work on the phone lines in the basement.
Quick – sounds as if your luck runs like mine (stand experience) – except I am sure that I would have fallen off/out of the tree at least one time through the ordeal. If the corn is still in the first week of October, I think the stand at the back of the bean field may be the best bet (especially if they are skittish), but when the corn comes out the stand up by that field should prove to be a hot spot! I had the X-static last year and thought it worked well. Oh and what kind of brief were you working on?
AR – hope you get your girl on film – I know your smile will be twice the size if she gets one!

I am sure I have forgotten someone or something – but will try to go back through posts again and see.

I had a couple of days off - then sat on a federal jury for a week. The first panel I sat on was for a firearms case. When the prosecuting attorney asked his questions I knew I would not be on that one! The fact that I had firearms in my house got a dot by my name (these were just my observations) – the handguns in my house got a line through my name, a past NRA member got the first line crossed with an X and my request for him to clarify his question about the definition of assault weapons that should be banned brought out el-marko. This panel was on a drug case and I was selected. The whole process was quite interesting but man does that screw up a work schedule.

I have had two weeks of meetings scheduled and have been playing fireman ever since and have not been able to get back on top of everything. That sucks at this time of the year!

I will stay in touch much better!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh, it is nice 30 miles East of Shannon, as the locals call it for some reason,. Drove down 6 once out of there with my dad for a good long time (runs right by my house here in Illinois).one of these days I am going to have to hunt one of the farms he has... One looks real good but I haven't spent a lot of time out there untill just recently, was alwys too busy.. That was a mistake I think.

We run Angus crosses and some red baldies (Red Angus X Herfeford) and you better believe that I keep all my reciepts and my account says most can be used as business expenses.. Even contemplated the bow as "crop damage protection" but decided not to go out on that limb.. The cameras were bought originally for seeing if we could catch some tresspassers.. LOL, the only ones it has caught are a red fox, some deer, rabbits and a yote or three.. And me on serveral occasions walking on of the millions of dogs we have.

I have been called three times for Jury Duty... Always been dismissed very fast... Oh well, no skin of my back and it didn't hurt my feelings too much

Whatsup guys, sorry I haven't had time to check in lately. Fiancee had me busy all weekend, and the Big Ten football games have finally started.

BowHnt - that brief I was writing was for a workmen's compensation claim. Technically it was a "Claimant's Proposed Findings of Fact," where I argue that ourclient is unable to work due to a physical disability caused by a work-related event. A C5-6 Herniation, to be precise.

So Sunday morning I scouted this new farm. I think I'm changing my plan of attack. There's an isolated oak flat about 1/3 mile from the cornfield. Between the two is a thick bedding area. I think I'm going to hunt the oaks in the morning, and circle around to a staging area (between bedding area and corn) in the evening. I've seen a lot of deer activity there, and it's always late evening.

The acorns are all over the ground, and I'm thinking that there must be some activity in there, because it looks like a pig pen (but there's little/no fresh droppings). They aren't white oaks, though.

I scouted a really good pinchpoint, but I'm going to put my buddy there on the opener - he's never killed a deer with his bow, so I know he'll get a shot at something. Besides, I figure if I camp out in that acorn flat, I might get to whack a heifer doe and make a go at winning the doe conte$t.

I normally hunt alone, but he's the guy who helped me access this new farm, so I feel obliged to help him get a deer.

ok guys I'm back. I was in vegas the last 5 days. Man I love that place.

quick, I have both my 2D tags but have yet to get my 2B ones back in the mail, we'll see what comes in from the last 5 days though. Also since I didn't do too bad in vegas, running down there to sign up and hopefully pop a fat doe on saturday might be in the cards

Basically my rundown is this...shoot this week, check my trail cam that I hung over a fresh scrape right before I left, scout a couple last minute places to decide where I'll be saturday, wash all my hunting clothes and try to find time to squeeze in a trip to buy som X-static.

Whats up all!!
Had a good youth season (2 days). Went out with my daughter and we seen a deer in the head lights crossing the road near her stand as we pulled up. Sat for about 45 min. and had a doe walk in... real exciting trying to get her to do the things she is suppost to do... needless to say she had a hard time getting to draw as the deer kept looking at us every couple seconds... finaly got the break while it inched its way to about 7-8 yards (perfect).... she got to draw as the deer turned broadside but took too much time to find her spot... as the deer starts to turn away and turned back to us a little she let it rip.... made a real good shot for the quarting away shot... landed the arrow a little far forward, behind and between the sholders... now the down side. Arrow did not come out the bottom and I think only hit one lung.... waited about 45 min. before tracking and just was not long enough... we ended up just pushing this thing around till we ran out of blood trail... we both learned alot about tracking... I have never had one do this before (track a long way) and never had a trail this easy to follow... so we did not recover the young doe... spent 4 hours looking over many many many yards.... we had talked many times about this possibly happening with her first time out and the low poundage bow... she is OK with the outcome and has learned many leasons from it... She is ready to go again... going to stick with the broadside shots... and let it sit a few hours before going after it... I am so proud of her!!!! made a great shot.... and is learning and wanting to go again... I think this will only make her more determined to make it right next time.
