i would prefer field lines because i mostly use a rifle. but it also depends on what is in the field if there is a food plot i would chose the field, but i would rather hunt a bottom with white oaks than a field with nothing in it.

In the northeast it is all woods for both bow and rifle. Larger bucks don't seem to come out in fields once the season starts in Vt.

For me it all depends on which part of the season I'm hunting. Here in Washington we have two archery whitetail seasons, one in September and one in November/December.
During September the deer are still on their summer feeding patterns to so hunting field edges in the evening seems to work the best. But come November/December when the rut is really starting to kick in, it's best to have a few stands back in the timber where you're more likely to have a buck chase a doe past your stand.
