If you want a fairly versatile gun to hunt more than just deer with, a 270 would be adequate for any game you can hunt in Michigan. It has been used for a long time and the modest recoil combined with moderate power makes it excellent for deer at a wide variety of distances.

Im 14, about the same build and I shoot a 30-06. Its a good gun and it gets the job done. Sure there's some recoil but nothing I cant handle. Also its such a common rifle that almost no matter where you go there is going to be ammunition for it. The only bad thing I can say is that its probably not the most versatile gun on the market. But if all your hunting is deer then I highly recomend it.
