Default Moral Question

Alrighty....here's a question for you all. I worked with a guy last summer who wa spart native American....he was all into indian rights and that kind of stuff. My question is...do you think Native Americans should have special rights or privileges? I'm kinda split on the issue...on one hand they were robbed of their land...on the other hand, they have as much of an opportunity to succeed as anyone else in America.... Any opinions would be great..but keep it nice in case anyone here is Native American!

Nothin like opening a can of worms. Here is the short version of my thoughts. I have nothing against native people at all, however I have a problem with their hunting rights. Here native people can hunt 24/7/365 days a year for free. They claim that their ancestors had this right so they should also, fine but hunt like your ancestors. How is a population supposed to stand up if they are using old native laws with europeans technology. If they want to bowhunt fine but i do not believe that hunting anytime of the year with a rifle, truck, spotlight is ethical. It is not even hunting anymore it becomes a slaughter. As a result here our moose population has decreased dramatically. Part of the reason is ticks but another contributer is over hunting. I agree that there is no place for rasism or discrimination in this world. Because I am not a native person i have to pay to hunt and must abide by the season dates. Can I help that my parents were not native? I feel as though I am disriminated against because I am caucasian. Name one other culture that is given special priveleges as soon as they are born? My point is not to create negative views towards native people. I have several friends here that are native and i would be singing the same tune if for example scotish people had these same privleges. it just doesn't make sense to me, but then again not much does.

I know in MS that Native Americans can go to college for free. I do not know why that is though. I also know that in MS Native American people can have the gambling part of their casinos on land. The rest of the casinos' gambling sections have to be on water. Perhaps someone here could tell me why that is? I am kind of curious.

Huntingirl89 will set us straight, or she will add us to her hit list.

FIRST OF ALL: Native Americans are forced to apply for dual citizenship if they live on a reservation. Why is it that Native AMERICANS who were the ORIGINAL AMERICANS have to apply for AMERICAN citizenship?????? THAT is not right at all. Second of all: Native Americans living on reservations are amoung the POOREST of America's population because there are NOT sufficient schools on the reservations and to come off of the reservation is to lose whatever jobs, landholdings, status, ect. and have to start from scratch. 80% of the Native population is BELOW the poverty rate and do NOT recieve federal aid from the US unlike all of the other who can suck it dry for all its worth. WE are entitled to go to college FREE of cost because the US gov't kind of owes it to us after all of the bastardization of our culture. WE do NOT have the same entitlements of all the rest of you "Americans" because we are recognized as a soverign nation and therefore IGNORED by the US gov't. Oh yeah, sure... theres hundreds of treaties and what we wanted is what we got (to be left ALONE on our reservations) however the US gov't continues to steal and take away that land. WE are going through that right now in NYS. WE are not entitled to insurance or healthcare benefits that is alotted and taken for granted in the US. WE do not get social security. When WE travel between states or countries, we get SEARCHED because we are not considered US citizens and we have to present a CARD wherever we go in ADDITION to a licence whenever we make a purchase. WE are not aloud state aid to go to college so therefore we have to scrounge for scholarships which there are only a limited amount of each year, therefore leaving some people without an education. WE do not get disability if we get hurt on the job. WE do not have it as easily as everything thinks we do. Open your eyes. Visit a reservation. I don't understand after so many years why there is still so much injustice, so much misunderstanding, and that the US gov't still wants to eradicate us from the face of the earth. I'M MOVING TO CANADA!

As a last thought, WE are the nations SMALLEST minority... so quit your right-wing complaining

I didn't realize you guys were a soveriegn nation. If this is the case, are you subject to the same taxes as the rest of Americans? If so, then you are correct, the same federal aids should be granted to you. If you don't pay the same federal taxes...your arguement has a major major flaw.
