Opening Day
I walk into the forest in the dark
Find a tree near where you’re at
And park myself in your path
I call you when you’re supposed to wake
And sit quietly as I wait
When you finally answer
My spirits soar
Until I see you in the field
I pray you don’t see me where I’m at
Or your present on my lap
As you near I barely breathe
As I wait for you to get close to me
When you near your present clicks
Fire blooms from the gift
And lead hits you like a brick
When you fall I finally move
And run over to you as you lay
And feel the joy I get on these days
I pick you up when you die
And take your body home
Where I feel high with pleasure
From the successful hunt
And you, Mr. Tom will not
Be able to gobble to anyone
