RE: doe
jake pretty pmuch took care of that for me lol tanks man. a rifle delivers enough hydrostatic shock that it ruptures vitla organs if you do hit that spot you probably wouldnt ever know it. unless you use some silly fmj bullet or somethin that doesnt expand. then you could risk just punhcin a hole straight through.
guys dont get me wrong, i would rather tuxck one behind the shoulder anyday but im just sayin, im not affriad to take head shots or running shots. which that confused some jerks on the other thread thinkin i was sayin i take head shots at runnning deer. not at all. on running game i shoot for body mass which is rib cage area. i can hold my own w/ a rifle but to say your so good you take head shots at running game.....im not sayin that at all. of course thats how those guys made it sound. i will say i have hit a few deer in the back of the neck and head when the shots were running straight away. anywyas, im gonna head out and do a little scouting i think today. i didnt have to work i guess some im changing my clothes as i type this. |

RE: doe
My sisters ex used to make headshots on deer with the deuce-deuce all the time,,, everytime dropping the deer in its tracks. He bowhunts as well, and always made great shots with his bow. Though he one time shot a spike too high, and just caught the meat right over the deers vitals. No blood, no vitals, just hair.
I will agree that there is a lower margin of error for a vitals shot than a head shot, but we are all human, and error is a fact of everyday life. You'll have error whether its vitals or head. |

RE: doe
Brandon, i know you have less deer density by you and smaller bag limits. But that should not be an excuse for piss poor shots. It should actually make you take better shots. If you confident with your ability to make head shots, that's your own call. I only know that i would not and the majority of other hunters would not as well. And that's is for a reason.
Also, James, just because your parents did it one way and its been done like that for generations doesn't make it right. Just my opinion. A Lot of stuff in that category is wrong and unsafe/outdated...but that's another argument. Like mentioned before, we all got each others backs and if Brandon nails a doe from 250 yardsin the skull at a dead run ill be 1st in line to congratulate him. |
RE: doe
^^^ haha, that would be one heck of a shot.

RE: doe
lol im not used to you guys calling me by name... What i was saying was mainly for Rory who knows i dont deer hunt, and found it odd that i was putting up such an arguement for a animal ive never shot before. What i was saying was i can see both sides, personally i would rather take a heart/lung shot then a head, but i dont think that head shots are as bad as you guys are trying to make them out to be

RE: doe
right below the lungs. and towards the rear of the deer from the heart. Like I said, not usually a problem with a rifle, but bow hunters hit that and lose deer sometimes. It is just a fleshy spot that wont do much if that is all you hit. Ill try and put an arrow on the picture or something if I know how....
