any common hunting rifle will penetrate the skull with no problem...thats not even an issue haha. We will all have our own oppinion, but yes it does kill deer. Dont specifically think"I only take head shots!!!" take what shots are given to you that are good. IF that happens to be a head at forty yards....well I have no problem with that an Ive done it four times.

Every shot has pros and cons. But the head shot has a way LARGER margin of error then a heart/lung shot attempt. And about the empty spaces, with an arrow yes, it can happen (trust me i know), but with a gun, it wont. The damage a bullet does from a rifle will almost certainly sever something if you aim for the heart/lungs and make a good shot.

this was a major arguement in another forum. what some ppl dont understand is that in cetain parts of the country the deer densities are really low, 6 deer per sq mile such as where i live and hunt so its not like you see a deer every day you go out. and your only allowed one so when you get the chance at you take it. i hunted yesterday for our opener, granted i didnt ewant to shoot my deer yet and i was just scouting but i only see one doe and she was running away from me......had it been time to kill a deer you bet your azz i would have tried to drill her on the move. my point is, some of us cant or dont have the opertunity to get text book broad side shots.

of course. I was referring to huntnteen. haha that .350 would have no problem penetrating any part of a deer.

then his shot was perfectly ethical according to my standards. He took a legitimate shot at a vital zone of the deer, so you should all quit belittleing anyone who takes headshots

the dead spot is below the lungs and the rear of the heart..like from the heart back to the guts and below the lungs there is nothing. also, if you hit too high. I will try to find a diagram to post thats shows it.

I dont deer hunt because i dont have a place to, i grew up with both parents deer hunting, and still put in for a tag every summer for the section of CA where we have mule deer. What im trying to do is defend the kid. I have grown up with my parents only taking heart or neck shots, and i will probley live to their standards once im in the feild, but it doesnt mean that i want someone to belittle a kid for a takeing a shot he knew could make, and killing a deer

ok I found some stuff.




You can see it in those pictures. That is actually about a three to four inch area that is just tissue. and doesnt usually kill the deer. Especially with a bow. A bullet usually makes enough of a mess that it doesnt matter. but it is still an empty spot. Point being, ANYTIME you shoot an animal you risk injury.
