Default Help with new food plot

Does anyone have planting suggestion for heavy wet soil. I've done the soil test and I'm in the process of making the corrections. My biggest concern is that the water table is about 18 to 24 inches below the surface. Higher in the spring. I'm wondering what would grow good in this senario.

FP -

I love the picture - nothing like Blue skies - White Birch & White cedar all in one picture!!!!!!

I know the type of soil well - and while the soil might be wet - it is likely high in P & K due to the short growing seasons and water table (these nutrients do not leach out like Nitrogen does).

So.............

Your plot is prime for a clover planting. White clover especially.

Clover is shallow rooted - and will grow in very wet soil (not underwater though).

If flooding occurs annually (river floodplain) for more then 4-7 days standing water - it might be wise to look at annual plots of clover - and plant after the spring floods.

few plants can handle a week under water except some grasses - which are generally not preferred by deer.

Is the field under water part of the year?

I agree with farm hunter "clover".

I wish I could attach a picture to a post like that.

Thanks for the help.

Actually the P&K are very low, but the pH is 6.4. The Co-Op suggested about 400 lbs/a of 4-10-45. The majority of the field will not get covered with water, so I think I'm OK there.
