I love the picture - nothing like Blue skies - White Birch & White cedar all in one picture!!!!!!
I know the type of soil well - and while the soil might be wet - it is likely high in P & K due to the short growing seasons and water table (these nutrients do not leach out like Nitrogen does).
So.............
Your plot is prime for a clover planting. White clover especially.
Clover is shallow rooted - and will grow in very wet soil (not underwater though).
If flooding occurs annually (river floodplain) for more then 4-7 days standing water - it might be wise to look at annual plots of clover - and plant after the spring floods.
few plants can handle a week under water except some grasses - which are generally not preferred by deer.
Is the field under water part of the year?
