Two years ago i planted 5 sawthooth oak trees . I did not plant the trees together, but spread them out. Three were planted in about a 200 yard area and the other 2 were planted about 300 yards away within a 100 yards of each other. My question is , do these trees need to be planted next to each other for them to produce acorns? Thanks.

Where in the country are you guys planting these? I know these are a more southern species and have shyed away from because of the -21 degree winters in NE PA. My friend however lives in South Central PA and has had luck with them. How cold does it get where you guys are?

and I might have tried this too:
Prairie Crab Apple - Malus ioenensis
Rare species crab native to the central US. Similar to the Sweet Crab but with more downy on the leaves and ranches.
For years it was scorned as a weed tree. Today a lot of interest exists in this species due to the popularity in native landscaping.
Single, pink in bud . opening white, fragrant flowers. 1 inch Granny Smith green apples. Very tart. Resistant to scab.
The apples are usually very clean of any disease or bugs. Height to 20-30 ft. -30°F hardiness.
Field grown, 18-24" sizes ..................... $7.50 each
