Improving natural vegetation means fertilizing existing honeysuckle/greenbriar/trees/shrubs on the property. IME - on smaller tracts of land - the thicker the understory, the better the property is for "holding" deer. Good advise has been given thus far. Order yourself a good book on woodlot management (qdma.com). Loads of information for you in there! Good luck/good hunting.
