Has anyone tried austrian winter peas for a food plot. Will they grow in heavy clay soil in VA. A friend who is a farmer used them about 5 years ago as a cover crop. They were not in an area with a heavy deer population. So i don't know if deer will eat them.

I used them in a mix with oats, rye and wheat. The problem I had was that the deer ate them off at ground level when they were about 2" high and they did not come back.

i've used them for the past 2 years & they ate them up both years. i've also planted iron clay peas in the summer and they worked well also but once the frost hits the iron clay peas there gone.
