I am planning on planting some clover in a field that used to be farmed, but hasnt in a few years. Would I have to worry about lime or fertilizer since crops grew well before?

It all depends on how much crop you want to produce.

-Broadcast seed on the field in the spring and you'll get some clover.
-innoculate the seed and you'll get more
-knock the weeds down with roundup or by cultivating you get still more
-test the soil - lime and fertilize if required, and do everything above and you will get the best crop.

How much do you want to spend and how much crop do you need?

Yes.... You need to preperly prepare the soil to fit the products nutritional and ph needs. Do a soil sample...
