Water source??
I was reading marty's post and was wondering how do you guys make a water source. Do you leave a trough in the field, dig a small pond? How big? Where to locate a water source etc? What problems have you had in making a source?

I've got a 1/4 acre dug pond, 2 streams and about 40 acres of wetland. The deer don't even use the pond because they have plenty of water in the streams and wetland, with a lot more cover. They feel safer using those water sources.

Provoding a water source is one of the more difficult problems of providing nutrition for wildlife. Water table, rainfall and such are many factors. If you water table is high enough, one or two passes with a buldozer should do the trick. The problem of dehydration is tantamount in the winter because everything is frozen.

RE: Water source??
Gun here's what I did. I found the lowest point of my place. Just so happens I had an old hand pump there that I finally got to work. I had a hole dug about 14 feet.
Then I lined it with clay. I got lucky and found a fellow building a house and he gave me most of the clay. I had my bud come over with his dozer and push the clay into the hole. I figures I got about three foot on the bottom and about two on the sides. I pick up a well jack and hook it up on my well. When the water gets low I fire up the pump and let her go. I also would recommed you plant some grass around the edges to prevent erosion. good luck......marty
