Default Ph level for my plot

What ph level do I need to be acheiving to plant this clover plus plot I asked about in a previous post? The make up is several verieties of red and white clover and chickory. Also I noticed a hand held ph meter in a Bass Pro catalog for about $25.00 anyone have any info on this gadget? Will probably have more questions in the near future, planting time is near thanks ................hill

You could buy the soil test kit for 18.00 at gander mountain which contains a piece of pH paper and directions how to use it. Just joking. Tplay if you carry some deionized(distilled) water with you and mix some with the dirt in a bowl or cup you should get accurate results. Hill if you buy some pH paper which would be much cheaper and do what I told Tplay to do and that will give you what you are looking for. There probably is a county agriculture agent in your area that would be a wealth of info.

good luck

7.0 is the best level... Although many products will do well in the 5.5 or above. Read the manufacturers recommendation tag. Many counties/parishs have soil conservation agents that will provide soil samples for free. But it is cheaper to pay $10.00 or $20.00 to make sure your in the ball park than fail... Don't be in a hurry to fail. A small plot that is well planned and executed is better than a large plot that is gone about haphazardly.
