what to plant
hey there fellows. new to the bb here. the thing is we have never owned our own land before and never had to worry about planting food plots. our land is made up of planted pines and cutovers with open land thoughout. with it being only about 2 months before bow season and this part of the planting season what would be a good source of food to plant. we have areas with plenty of sunlight and moisture. any advice that is give will be greatly appriciated.

RE: what to plant
Plan strategically with food plot design and location.
Get a soil test, and lime accordingly before you do anything. Plant a good mix of both annuals, and maybe even a couple of perrinials such as clover. Variety is the key. If your soils are terrible maybe go with a base of rye or something else tolerant, but still go with a mix.
Do the above for this year, and then spend some time on these boards and plan an effective weed control and planting strategy for next year.

Like Jeff said, get a soil test before you do anything. Ladino clover is one of my favorites but without the correct pH level you can' t expect it to do well. Rye is excellent for drawing deer. I' ve also had good luck with arrowleaf clover but it is an annual so unless it goes to seed you will have to reseed it in the spring. Try as many different variaties as you can to find out what grows best and what your deer prefer. Good luck and welcome to the board.
