2 questions about the mineral lick recipe that is posted in several different spots. (1 part dicalcium phosphate, 2 parts trace mineral salt, 1 part rock salt)
1. I read somewhere that the rock salt may not be neccesary. The deer may take in so much salt and be satisfied that they wouldn't get enough of the other componentsat each visit to the mineral lick.
2.The Fleet Farm that I was pricing the minerals at had 50lb bags of dryed molasses. Would this be a good addition to help deer initially find it or would it wash out too fast?
Thanks in advance!

You could probably use the molases instead of the salt in you are concerned amout the salt. The salt should seep into the soil however and be there well after visual traces disappear.
IMO, I would stick to the formula you mentioned, but be sure to mix everything well and work it into the ground. Then spill a good amount of water into it.
