Go to a local hardware or sometimes a Home Depot in the area where you want to do the well, usualy a rural store carries these things. You will want to get what is called a "Point". This is driven down by hand but you will not be able to pump water if the water level is more than about 30 feet because of what is called dynamic suction lift. The water will start to separate at the depth of about 30-35 feet. There is a device that is put over the pipe that is threaded into the point. This device will allow you to kinda hammer the point down. If you don't hit water you will most likely need a backhoe to pull the point and piping up. Total cost with a hand pump should be in the neighborhood of $150.00 - $200.00 for the point, pipeing and rental of the hammer device.

Hopefully you have sandy soil or are near a water source (river, stream, wetland) for best results.

Oakwoods, Get an auger from the hardware or whereever you get the point and pipe. Get drive couplings. Auger down as far as you can, it will save a lot of work with the driver. Depends on the type of soil you have, but you may not have to go that deep. Make sure you get 3or4 feet of water over (above) your point. Use a string with nut on the end (not refering to you)< humor. Northern tool has hand pumps for about 30.bucks. Good luck and don't wear yourself out.. terry

Inch and a quarter(I.D.) is common. Should be the thread size of the hand pump. If you are going to put a shallow well electric or gas pump on it I would go to 2". And put a pvc caseing around it. Auger is far as you can, drop in the caseing (3" or 4&quot, put the point and as much pipe as you can into the caseing and drive pipe till you get 2 or 3 feet of water over the point. Put your hand pump on and pump till the water clears up. terry
