Last fall I planted several strips of seven top turnips and have been real pleased with how the deer are hitting them. Especially now that the ground is covered with snow. They are digging the green plants up like mad.
Has anyone had experience with spinach and carrots for deer. I have heard that these plants are good fall and spring forage plants for deer and are high in protein.

In Michigan we used carrots for baiting for some years. It has lead to an increase in Bovine TB... Seems the high protein in the carrot has some ability to assist TB virus. It seems that the virus can freeze and unthaw in the spring, not to mention the nose to nose contamination.

Thanks for the info. folks! Maybe I'll stick to the turnips, especially in regards to the bovine virus. Ron M., what type of rape do you plant? I have tried dwarf essex rape but the growing season was so dry this year that the rape did not get a very good start.
