Cleaning up the Briars
I got some land to hunt this past fall and am chomping at the bit waiting to put out some food plots. My opinion anything will help even if a little. The land is almost entirely woods that were logged with5 years so there is a ton of forage for the game animals.
There are numerous logging roads and fairly decent sized logging beds that i would like to plant probably with clover/clover/chicory mix this spring. The problem is that there is a lot of briars in these areas.
Does anyone have any advice on cleaning these areas out. I know that they provide good cover and forage themselves but i can't imagine a good crop of clover would grow in them.
Thanks.

i brush hog will probably do it. i've also used a weed whacker with the plastic blade attachments and those seem to work well. after you cut it down i would spray it w/heavy brush killer.

I would brush hog and then immediately spray with 2,4 DB. Make sure you spray the area within 15 minutes of cutting so that the stems will not be dry. The herbicide works better when the cut is fresh.
