It was weird to hear someone from TENN say persimmon is gross.Persimmon pudding is a luxury desert of the South.

Man, I love the Fuyugaki Persimmon (nonastringent). You eat them like an apple.

You can get grafted and seedling persimmons from a bunch of places. I got a hardy variety called Meaders from "Northwoods" or "One Green World" nursery.Their catalog says to wait until after a frost hits to eat them. I went with Meaders cause they said it was developed at UNH and I live in MA. Persimmons cost a fortune in the markets here. >>>Whack!

They're as sweet as nectar when they're ripe. It sounds like you've been sucking on green fruit. They'll do a lot of damage if you try that.

There are varieties that are hardy as far north as Wisconsin , but you'll need to contact some nurseries online to find them . If you can find them try to get sexed trees so that you don't end up with all male(non-fruiting) trees and buy enough of them for a small grove(or two ) , persimmons are like crack to deer .

I have a lot of persimmon trees on my place here in S. Ohio. I also mark the female trees because male does not produce fruit. When the fruit is ripe, I shake the tree and the next day all that fell to the ground are gone. This fall I'm going to set my stealth cam and see what is stealing my persimmon.
Could be anything eating them, I have seen coyotes, coons, possums, deer, humans, etc. gorging themselves on them. I believe they are a delicacy to most animals. Put a camera on a falling persimmon tree, no telling what you will get!!
