We rented a atv disc setup from Gander mountain for a wknd. They also sell the same setup for like $850. Its pretty heavy duty, had to add a little weight to get it to dig in. But it worked, and we disc up a 1 acre plot for next spring on previously unplowed ground. It took longer than the tractor, and bottom land plow setup we used 3yrs back for our present plot. But we didn't have that option anymore.

I'm not a big fan of rototillers. They are hard on the soil structure. But if the soil is mostly sand, there isn't a lot of structure there to destroy. They also chop residue into pieces, which makes it decay much faster. Organic matter in my neck of the woods is low to begin with, so I try to manage residue so that I've always got some to work with.
